"Ink Waster"
Pros: Decent print and scan quality.
Cons: Periodic cleaning cycles (which can't be disabled) waste a TON of ink
Summary: This is the worst computer purchase that I've ever had the misfortune of making. I've printed very little since getting the printer, but half of the ink was consumed within three months--most of which was the result of the ink-wasting cleaning cycles that the CX4600 engages in automatically. With the type of printing that I do, I could get 12-18 months out of a single black or color cartridge with my old Lexmark 3200 printer. That will NEVER happen with the CX4600, Epson has seen to that...and if one cartridge runs out of ink, the printer refuses to print at ALL.
I hate the CX4600, and will never buy another Epson product. It currently won't print because one cartridge is out of ink, and I've yet to buy replacements--and have no desire to, because it means putting more money into Epson's cash drawer. I'm seriously thinking about putting my Lexmark 3200 and a separate scanner back into commission.

I bought my CX4600 in Nov. 2004, used it for about 2 weeks before it decided to start plugging up. I have gone through all the reset/clean-up utilities many times, wasted tonnes of ink, all to no avail. This printer now sits in the corner waiting for the junk man. I went out and got a Canon for about the same money - far better printer and uses far less ink.

Abysmal, do u think that any of these printerīs manufacturers are Mother Theresa? They r here for the money.

This printer wasted so much ink I threw it out after only 6 months of use. I'd say 50% of the black ink and 100% of the color ink were wasted for head cleaning (I very seldom print color prints). The annoying thing is that this printer refuses to print after it runs out of any one of the color ink, even when I only print b/w. I had the choice of buying more color ink cartridges every few months which I don't use but needed to keep the printer working, and throwing out this printer, guess what I did.

I wasted my money. It was good before I had to replace the ink. Since replacing the cartridges, I get only blank pages with an occasional tiny spot of ink. Considering the cost of the cartridges and the time it would take to get this fixed, it's not worth my time to bother with it...so it's going straight to the dumpster (in brand new condition).

I too hate this printer. I ran out of the color yellow and now it won't let me print at all because of this one color is gone. I have to drive 1 1/2 to get a new cartridge and I don't think its worth it. If the printer continued to work even though one color is gone it probably would suit me just fine.
Too Bad! -
This printer drinks ink like any thing, even we fill one cartridge with ink it won't accept it. I never buy EPSON printer. My previous LexMark printer is much better than this ink hungry monster

Like many, I thought this would be economical with separate cartridges. I have never seen a printer so picky or so wasteful with the ink.

I have talked to Epson support before about going thru ink too fast and they suggested turning off printer when not using it as it constantly charges itself to avoid ink drying up. This definitely helped me.
I can't say that it is GREAT about ink consumption but this is my 5th Epson and I feel that they have HP beat every time with photo quality. Yeah, it's a trade off but I'd rather have a better printer that eats more ink than one that does a so-so job and saves ink.
