"Great great printer..." on by contactanwar

Pros: Beautiful text output. Fast, fast, fast. Incredible picture output. Low price. Did I mention fast.

Cons: Didn't like being directly hooked up to my Fuji camera, but it did work with the memory card alone.

Summary: I bought this printer because I thought it would be a cheap replacement for my last photo printer. But instead I got so much more than I bargained for. First off it is very fast and prints very beautiful text. Something that as far as Epson's were concerned I typically conceded to HPs when plain paper is concerned. But that is no more... Secondly... the photo output is simply beautiful... And I have owned a lot of Epson printers and I was very very impressed by this unit. I set my Fuji cam on only its 2M setting and the pictures that printed out were beautiful. And it printed them very quickly. I print a lot of business cards and normally on the high quality setting on glossy business cards, my last epson would take around 20 to 30 minutes to print 20 sheets of business cards... With this one it was all done is less than 10 minutes... By the time I fed one sheet in... it was almost ready for the next... I can't say enough good about this thing...

"Great printer, scanner; not for photos!" on by bug2u

Pros: This is a great printer! If you read the booklet or go online to Epson, it will tell you the best setting level for your use. I use it for school, so go with the "draft setting" for basic printing.

Cons: This printer is loud! You will know you are printing! Ink expensivenfor printing photos!!!

Summary: I had the CX 4600, which I "broke" myself by putting in to much paper! I was passed the warrenty, so got the upgrade.
The CX 4800 is basiclly the same, but better. My major complaint is, it make a lot of noise. As for the printer cartriges, It uses individual cart. for each color! This is great! You can buy it as you need it. If use the Epson color Dura brite, great for photos, it is expensive. But,you can buy the generic from an on-line source that is much cheaper. I rarely print a photo with this printer, but they do come out well. It uses a lot of ink.
On my computer, when it says, "10% in left of "black" ink," that means I have about 100-200 pages of good print left, if not more. it really depends on how you will use it. Don't believe your ink cart. is about empty. It is not!!
I think this is a good purchase for anyone who needs a relatively cheap printer, not a photo printer, that will serve most home/ office purposes.
The copy or scan works great!
Yes, you can print photos with good quality, but I still prefer the quick print drug store brand where I can get the photos I want and then print later on the printer. Just scan the photo. Then print to the size you want.
Overall, I recommend this to the basic home user that does not print photos often, but needs the option occasionally.

"Excellent entry-level bang-for-the-buck AIO" on by PhoenixClaw

Pros: fast scanner for photos with above average quality, great photo printer, excellent AIO

Cons: mediocre text scanning, slow photo printing.

Summary: I've had this unit for about 3 months now. Its scan speed is faster than some of the dedicated scanners that I've used at the multimedia labs at work. Resolution and color fidelity is also very well balanced with great software control. Text scans however, are somewhat out of focused, but otherwise acceptable. I am very impressed with the scanning quality.

I've only used glossy photo paper for printing photos on this printer (as oppose to premium glossy photo and premium photo plus). It's the cheapest photo paper out there and it works excellent on this printer. The colors and resolution often comes more accurate than photos developed by digital photo lab because I can match color profile between monitors and printers. The standalone photocopy feature also works great for documents and photoIDs and has significantly higher pixel count than regular postal office photocopier. The print speed is not a concern for me. Overall, the print/copy performance exceeded my expectation for an entry level AIO.

I've heard complaints about the print head on CX4600 clogging and sucking up ink like there's no tomorrow. So far, I haven't had any problems with my CX4800. I've printed about 50-60 (4x6) pictures to-date, and it only used up about 1/4 of each of the cartridge. Consumption wise, it's within the norm. And because the color inks are sold in separate cartidges, I can replace just one instead of all of the colors, making it more economical.

The unit itself is slightly hefty in size, and may require a good stable support structure to sit on as the print head motor translate quite a bit of momentum when it's going from side to side.

    "cool printer" on by timwayne

Pros: faster than 4600 and the price is right

Cons: none, customer support was awsome

Summary: I had the CX4600 and it went belly up, tech support said it was a hardware failure, so they sent me the CX 48000 no charge, hurray Epson, way to come tru with customer service! The CX 4800 seems to be the upgrade version of the CX 4600, faster stronger, better resolustion. I'm a Epson fan and will be for a long time. Thanks, very rare service in this industry!!! My new hero's. Epson rules!

"Great prints in a short time" on by deadzepplin

Pros: Fast prints with great quality

Cons: Could suck up too much ink like it's predecessor

Summary: I obtained the CX4800 free from Epson because my CX4600 broke and was still under it's one year warranty. The CX4600 was slow (still had great prints) and used ink like crazy. The nozzels were broken and would not clear themselves.(even with the nozzel cleaner)

The CX4800 was so much faster at printing than the 4600 I couldn't believe it and is now at a very reasonable pace. And just as with the previous version, the prints look great considering it's a $100 printer. Since I have not had to replace the ink or cleaned the heads, I'm not sure if the 4800 is as much of an ink user as the 4600. I'll be looking foreward to that, but based upon my first impressions, it is great. Scanning was never a problem, and remains unchanged. The scans come out great and the scanning program is easy to use with the proper amount of scanning options depending upon the knowledge of the user. So you can select from novice or professional mode.
