"cool printer"
Pros: faster than 4600 and the price is right
Cons: none, customer support was awsome
Summary: I had the CX4600 and it went belly up, tech support said it was a hardware failure, so they sent me the CX 48000 no charge, hurray Epson, way to come tru with customer service! The CX 4800 seems to be the upgrade version of the CX 4600, faster stronger, better resolustion. I'm a Epson fan and will be for a long time. Thanks, very rare service in this industry!!! My new hero's. Epson rules!

I have had this printer for about a year now. It was wonderful at first. Not fast, but good enough quality for what I needed. Then I started buying Ink cartridges. The ink doesn't last long at all. I got real irritated at how quickly the ink seemed to magically drain. It has a black ink cartridge, but unless you dig deep in the preferences, you find out that it uses all the ink cartridges, including black, to make a black and white page. So, even if you using only black your color cartridges will drain also. It turns out that there is a class-action lawsuit regarding this printer. The ink cartridges actually never run out. Once they get below a certain percentage, they will stop your print job until you replace whatever ink cartridge it thinks is empty. The problem was bad enough that Epson lost the suit. (or at least settled) I got a whopping $45.00 certificate at the Epson Store. I bought ink, but it, of course, did not last long. This printer has been a monumental money drain. I tried refilling the cartridges. I paid a $100 for a kit specifically for this printer. But the ink drains quicker and I am constantly having to "clean" the heads. Everytime I do a print job, I have to clean the heads two or three times then it works for a while and then runs out of ink again. I have never been more frustrated with a printer in all my life. It has cost me more time and money than any printer I have ever owned. I normally like Epson, but this printer is forcing me to think twice about a company that would build a monster such as this one.

After my CX4600 died, just a few weeks before going out of warranty, I tried everything and was directed to call Epson customer support. They ALSO are sending me a new upgraded CX4800 within 5-7 days FedEx, and I can't believe how nice and painless that was...hope the printer is worthy of this rating I am giving in advance...!
(I did mention that Epson needs to quit being so damn cheap on its end and expensive on ours with the ink cartridges that have no generic equivalents and cost more than the phone bill to replace!!!) -
Epson must have realized they produced a hunk of junk in the cx 4600. I also have just received my cx4800 replacement. I hope it lasts longer than 10 mos. BTW, my old model 740(5yrs. old) is a back up & it works well (which is why I purchased another Epson).

my cx4600 died all of a sudden. called epson and they will be sending me a cx4800 since the cx4600 is no longer available. great customer service... no hassle at all!
not too sure about epson or the cx4800... will this one die too? maybe hp would be a better bet? -
I just got off the phone with a epson tech and after i told him how my 11 month old cx4600 printer sucks and does not work they are sending me a new one. He said it could be a cx4800 so now i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

My CX4600 failed, too, and Epson replaced it--free--with CX4800. It's nice looking and works well. And the price was great!

After ten months my CX4600 bit the dust. One call and three quick business days later a CX4800 was at my door. Great customer service. The CX4800 outperforms the CX4600 - just as reported before.
