  • "Fast Printer, Ink horrendous"
    2.0 stars
    on by JoeD1979

Pros: Very fast. The fastest printer I have owned. Major step up for me in the amount of printing it can do.

Wireless. A little frustrating to set up, but once I did it, it worked great, and never have had a problem.

    Look. It simply looks good.

    Cons: Ink

    Double Sided Printing

Summary: INK - It is unbelievably ridiculous that as of right now I am out of Magenta, but the printer will not allow me to print an ALL BLACK text document. There is no way around it. I have to now go buy more Magenta Ink. I have never run into this problem with any other printer. So basically you need to keep a full pack of ink colors at home at all times which costs around $50. It advertises itself as being able to "replace only the color you need". Well, you don't have a choice! Also, the ink does not last nearly as long as every other printer I've had.

Double Sided Printing. This claims to be able to print double sided, but it does not work properly in my experience. I have had it work on occasion, but for large documents it does not. I printed a double sided 100 page document, and after it printed the front side, it suddenly canceled print on the other side. To top it off, there is NO WAY to reprint the second page. Really? Printing the odd pages does not work since some of the document has blank pages.

    CONCLUSION

My conclusion for potential buyers is simple. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. Move on. Yes it does print very fast, and the wireless is a very good feature, but a lot of printers have these features. The Ink problem is simply terrible, and cannot be excused. I will never buy another Epson printer.

I COULDNT AGREE MORE WITH EVERYTHING WRITTEN HERE.... I have the SAME EXACT issues. Im not happy. I bought this printer for home business purposes and keep reverting back to my "free" printer that came with my computer.

Def. a piece of JUNK!!!!! I called EPSON today and they told me that there is no work around for the problem. Also I'm out of Blue ink.... HUH? I've only ever printed BLACK!!! GUESS WHAT Epson had to say... IT USES ALL THE COLORS TO PRINT,,,, EVERYTIME you print... The epson Tech support guy told me that it does that to keep the print head moist.... SUCH BS!!!! PEICE OF JUNK!!!! I'm going to go and BUY AN HP Color Laser Printer Now.... Also, I can't use the scanner on my printer, BECAUSE I'm out of INK????? What kind of person would be so MEAN as to make me drive out every Week for blue, because i print in black?

I bought this Epson printer (NX515) about 3 months ago and I am trying to return it and get my money back. The indicators for ink level are misleading and wrong. The printer does not print because it indicates that the printer is out of ink but I know all 4 cartridges are at least half full. I bought a new black cartridge just 2 weeks ago and had very little printing. This printer should be thrown into garbage can!

This review is 100% accurate. This printer is an ink cash cow for Epson. I was so unhappy with mine I wanted to write to the Better Business Bureau about the Epson company. I've never seen anything like this before in a printer.

You are absolutely correct. The cartridges are around $10 online, about $14 at Office Max. However, as I mentioned, you cannot print anything if one color is out. Epson's own website says that when you are out 1 color, you cannot print anything until it is replaced, no matter what you are printing. The printer is pretty great otherwise. I just can't wrap my head around such a terrible design choice for their ink. I would be completely happy with the printer for the most part, if I was allowed to keep printing.

You indicate that the ink is too expensive? Why don't you go to a Cartridge World.. Found out ink is like $10.00 for Black- Little concerned that you do need the entire colors to print when one is out.. maybe it has something to do with the fact that if nothing is in the printer slot the machine will not print? If you keep it there, does it print?
