Epson Stylus Photo RX580

This is a nice unit, until the ink runs out after printing 5 8"x10" photos. After the ink runs out, this unit is dead, it will not let you scan or use the built in card reader. Replacing the ink costs over $60. My advice? buy a black and white laser printer and get your pictures printed at the local camera shop, you'll save serious $$$$

I've had this printer for a while and I don't use it a lot. I do scans and print out letters. What bugged me was that the black ink cartridge would get clogged and cleaning the heads worked but I sometimes had to do it several times.
But what prompted me to write a review is that I just made a christmas present of about 48 DVDs and so I printed labels on them all and they looked great. For some reason the printer didn't use the ink fast either. Then I wanted to print out nice covers for the DVD holders and I used glossy photo paper they look fantastic. And again it didn't use a whole lotta ink.
So I think this printer is great if you are doing a project where you print out DVD labels and photo quality covers but the clogging and cost of cartridges is an issue to use it for day to day letter printing.
