Pros: Best Drivers in the Industry!
Cons: no duplexer
Summary: I am the IT guy. We have a small office with high traffic in the mornings and evenings when field personnel are leaving/returning. They are always in a hurry to copy blank field forms in the morning and scan in completed field forms in the afternoon to the server. This has been a wonderful improvement for them from the old solution that finally died. A small, old Windows XP machine with 256 MB of memory is available to them to open and print maps and forms but they typically don't use it because they can scan completed field forms directly to the file server in Acrobat format using our custom settings without using any PC. This printer is networked wireless only with no USB or Ethernet cabling. The field staff also take their daily photographs on an SD card and read them directly from the card reader built into the printer and upload to the server without using any PC. This all works flawlessly. My only concern was the durability of the controls, paper tray and panels since the field staff are rough fellas but we have had no problems or damage because it is very tough.
As the IT guy the most amazing thing to me is the ease of installation using a single file that installs all components to all versions of Windows from XP to Server 2003 to Vista to Windows 7 for both 32 and 64 bits! Once installed I have never had to fix or reinstall anything. The difference here from the other brand of printer it replaced is dramatic where every different OS required a different install file and the resulting drivers and interface all appeared to have been compiled by completely different groups of software engineers working in completely different countries. The other brand's drivers were always buggy and each one had unique issues that had to be individually researched and fixed. Buying the Workforce 630 for my small office has removed a huge headache for me as the IT guy. Thank you Epson, THANK YOU!
