Slightly loudSummary: I bought this printer on sale for $69, regular price was $149. I've only had it a couple of days but so far I'm pretty thrilled with the quality and features.
Setup took close to an hour. Setup hung when downloading firmware update (you need to use the 'back' button to ensure LCD is clear) and when it came time to print a test page it wanted to send a fax - again, use the back button to clear the screen. I followed their instructions to the letter, except I downloaded the drivers and utilities direct from the Epson website. After completing the wired setup it kind of leaves you in the dark about the wireless setup, but I muddled through and it became pretty straightforward. My Iphone had no problem finding the printer and my laptop ditto after I loaded the Epson software there too.
The printer feels more substantial than Epson's cheaper models and I think for my use it will stand up fine. Menus are reasonably easy to figure out. Print quality seems good - still not 100% sure about colour accuracy but all pages are crisp and easy to read. Haven't tried the duplexer or printing from memory cards or USB stick yet but these are also handy features to have.
This model seemed like the lesser of a thousand evils; I tried to pick one that was reasonably reliable for $150 or less and wouldn't break the bank buying ink. Time will have to tell on that one, too early yet. My last printer was an HP and it's been great but I've had bad experiences with other HP printers and since their support is useless I wouldn't go there again. I don't like that it will not print when one cartridge is empty (not even in B&W so I've read) and apparently it's a royal pain to print envelopes but I might do 1 in a year so it's not high on my priority list.
I'll update on ink consumption and reliability after I've owned it a while.
