"Major Aggravation"
Pros: prints okay
Cons: will NOT scan - inept / unreachable support
Summary: If you want to make your blood boil, buy this Multi-Function-Device. If you have an excess of cash lying around the house and want to get rid of it for no particular reason, buy this MFD.
HP puts the "F" back in 'function' with the 3020. Supposedly capable of scanning, it refuses at every turn, telling you it cannot communicate with the scanner, or that the software is improperly loaded, or the TWAIN driver is not installed --- all this after using the default install driver and application software CD's that come with the 3020.
Technical support, when you can finally reach them, tells you to download a patch, unload the existing software and drivers, use a 'scrubber' patch, and reload the entire mess again. After several rounds of this, you realize the true meaning of 'futility' and aggravation. Lord knows what my registry looks like after multiple cycles of unloading, scrubbing and reloading of non-working drivers and application software.
The scanning software, and hence the scanner, WILL NOT work. Buy a printer, or buy a scanner, do not be fooled into thinking this MFD will do both.
HP will refuse to provide a refund. So, once they have your cash, you are stuck and there is no remedy to be had other than to get a scanner and hook it up to your machine too. Any deskspace, any cost savings, you thought you were gaining by getting an MFD is lost again.
The printer, for its part, prints okay, and the copier, for its part, copies alright. But that's where it ends. If it had been advertised as a printer-copier, the HP 3020 would be a fine machine. But that's not how they advertise it. They say it is a scanner, and it most certainly is not. I leave you to make your own conclusions.Updated
