"Great printer for the price, IF you can get it on sale" on by RLOSR
Pros: ** very small footprint
** crisp text printing and very usable greyscale graphics printing
** fast warmup-to-print time
** laser print quality for inkjet printer priceCons: ** toner cartridge costs, and therefore cost/page, a bit high
** actually a bit loud when printing (but this isn't that big of a deal)
** not a flatbed scanner, so not as flexible as others
** wireless/networking feature not includedSummary: There are other, more in-depth reviews on here that dive deeply into the functionality of this printer, so I won't go there. Instead I'll tell you that this multi-function printer is a great deal right now because it is being discontinued (probably for a newer version), so if you can get it cheaply it is well-worth the cost.
I have an HPLJ 3200 multi-function printer that I have had for a long time. The toner cartridge was on its last legs, so I decided to go out and get a new one (looking for a job, and I needed to print some resumes). I looked in the paper and found this printer available for LESS than the toner cartridge for my current printer!
Office Depot is offering this printer for $124.99; if you bring in an old printer for trade-in (it doesn't even have to be in working condition) then Office Depot will knock another $50 off of the cost, bringing the price down to $74.99! This is an EXCEPTIONAL deal, and since my old printer was beginning to act up I decided that I couldn't let this go without procuring one for myself.
I brought it home and set it up, which included hooking it to my little ol' Netgear PS121 USB print server. I got that configured, and then was able to easily connect to it from my Macbook Pro. This printer is already in the printer driver list for the Macbook Pro, so I selected that driver and it worked flawlessly.
This printer is pretty quick when printing; my old printer took up to 30-40 seconds to get from dormant to printing the first page, and this printer took about 7 seconds to warm up and print.
The print engine is rather loud - louder than other laser printers I have owned or used. That's not a big deal, but I thought it was worth mentioning. The default paper tray is located in the front and on the bottom, and is easy to load; it holds about 280 sheets. You can also load other media, such as envelopes, on top of the default paper tray - this is handy when you regularly print letters and envelopes, as you don't have to manually feed them in separately through the same slot used by the regular paper. Fax pages are fed through the back at the top. All printed media comes out in the front, right below the fax discharge slot.
This printer is small - 22lbs - and has a small footprint. Since this is a multi-function printer used primarily by SOHO users, this is an important consideration. The input panel is located on the top of the unit, and more closely resembles the input panels of fax machines than printers. Using the menus to set this unit up is easy and straightforward, especially if you're used to setting up other HP products. It also has a small handset that hangs on the right side of the unit; this is handy when faxing, so I'm glad it's there. My older unit didn't have this, and I definitely missed it when faxing with it.
The toner cartridge that comes with this unit is good for about 1,000 sheets; I wish it was a full toner cartridge, but this has become the norm with the printing supplies included in today's printers.
CONCLUSION
Overall I am very pleased with this unit. As a SOHO user I have always used multi-function printers to save space and give me the most functionality for the price. Additionally I always use laser printers because I feel it is more professional looking than inkjet-printed pages. Unfortunately there aren't many laser multi-function printers out there, and the ones that are tend to be pricey. I believed I paid about $300 for my HPLJ 3200, and that was over 10 years ago. When I found this printer available for such a low price, I felt it was a deal I couldn't pass up, and I am definitely pleased with my purchase.
If you need as much functionality as possible in a single unite, and if you like the crisp, professional output that only a laser printer can provide, then you will definitely not be disappointed with the HP Laserjet M1319f. It is a unit with a great deal of functionality that is efficiently crammed into a small package. IF you can find one for less than $125 and you need a multi-function laser printer, then I think you should jump on this deal - you won't be disappointed. -
"Good Quality Printer for the price" on by rh2wang
Pros: 1. very good feature set for $180
2. Print quality is good, and speed is adaquate
3. Toner yield is adaquate, and replacement cost is justifiable
4. build in menu feature is easy to use
5. build in button feature on fax/copy are easy to useCons: 1. the software that came with the printer works but it was a disappointment
2. when copying, the copied output is angled, I suspect that the feed in paper tray when feeding paper slightly misaligns itSummary: If you are an average home user who does not require superb print quality and don't want to spend top $$$ on more expensive units, then this printer will do a good job for you. I have been using this printer on a dialy basis printing about 20pages each day for > 1 year and it has not given me any problems.
There are some small short comings. unlike printers with a screen and an autofeader, this has just an autofeeder. The scan glass is inside. If anything gets dirty on that narrow piece of fixed position scan glass, then streaks shows up on all of your copies. It is difficult to reach and clean. It can be done.
I have trouble copying legal paper, may be I have to select legal paper with printer option, haven't investigated.
It only accepts 8.5" wide paper.
I will be buying a more expensive unit next time mainly because i want to have additional features such as color and networking capability. Other than that, I am quite satisfied with this purchase. -
