The HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw displayed consistent results across CNET Labs' three monochrome speed tests: text, graphics, and presentation. The 15- to 16-page-per-minute (ppm) range comes impressively close to the 19 ppm figure HP claims.
Compared with the recently reviewed single-function mono lasers such as the Brother MFC-2270, the HP LaserJet P1606dn, and the Samsung ML-2525W, the M1217nfw brings up the rear by 3 to 5 pages per minute. Given its low price and impressive set of features, the HP LaserJet M1212nf still puts up a good fight in lab testing, although impatient users will find shorter wait times with the competing lasers.

The HP's text and graphics quality are acceptable; text is crisp and legible down to 2-point font, but not quite as deep black in some smaller fonts as the HP LaserJet P1606dn. Some banding in grayscale graphics is evident as well, but nothing that would prevent you from using the M1217nfw to create professional materials for your business.
