Pros Fast, mostly does what it is supposed to do
Cons Will only print at 300 dpi from document feeder, can't change to lower number which would vastly reduce size of saved files. Can change DPI only from flatbed scanner.
Can't contact HP for feedback on this major problem.
Summary Great product, with one important exception.
Pros fax and scan OK.
Cons Both the LaserJet Pro M1212 and this 1217 they sent to replace it run out of toner after only half the number of pages the device expected to be able to process and kept on "printing" pages without toner so... (see summary)
Summary (continued from cons)
... on Mondays I would find up to 150 illegible pages in the receiver tray with few legible enough to rescue...business opportunities from that weekend irretrievably lost...and the wasted paper. Multiple "support" encounters were all India, prolonged by repetition necessitated by language failure. Failing to remedy the problem they sent me the 1217 as replacement and it did same thing. The "support" encounters crossed over the very short warranty period at which time they terminated their responsibility despite the failure to remedy the problem brought to their attention during the warranty. They wore me down and stopped their money drain, leaving my overhead to hemorrhage.
Watch out for the OfficeJet Pro 8500 all-in-one as well. I bought the LaserJet to replace it since it went through color cartridges at an astounding rate even when set to print only in black and white. It "cleaned" its' printheads excessively which support agreed was a problem and replaced the printheads once under warranty. They self-clean more frequently as they age and by the time they 2nd set became a problem...guess what?...the warranty expired so they refused to replace them again although the new printheads had not lasted as long as the original warranty so I either keep paying out the yazoo for color cartridges, buy new printheads ($150) or give the device away. I got a laserjet by hp thinking that they couldn't rip me like they did with the inkjet and I already knew the software thoroughly (which also was because I had to troubleshoot the excessive color ink consumption problem over several "support" encounters....in India. HP will sell great features at an amazingly low cost because they will ton it off you on the ink and toner. My hp inkjet color photo printers were always a bit of a struggle to learn and, until now, I assumed that all printers are that way regardless of manufacturer. HP rarely takes top ratings anymore and I really regret choosing familiarity over common sense. I am relieved that they delivered this final lethal blow and I can move on with my life now without any HP products in my home or business. Anyone want a free LaserJet M1217? Hurry because I plan to double bag it and throw it off a 3 story ledge as a catharsis. It and it's brethren are not just worthless; they are money pits that hp regularly cleans out to pad their corporate wealth. India and France; kinda like Steve Jobs and China....life will be better without them.
Pros Does absolutely what it is supposed to do, quick printing, quick installation under Windows 7.
Cons First toner has smaller size than replacement ones you can buy --> you have to buy a new one quiet soon.
Summary So far, we are fully satisfied with the printer. The initial setup is quick and easy and the functionality to quick install drivers via Windows once the printer is in the wireless network is great. Printing and scanning is fast, as expected. It has proven its quality for everyday office use.
Pros Never got that far.
Cons I've spent the last four hours trying to get this printer to connect to my wireless network. A HP technician has been remotely accessing my laptop connected to this printer for the past 90 minutes without success.
Summary Avoid this printer.
Pros Nothing about this product is good
Cons way overpriced for what it it supposed to do...Good luck getting it to fax. Tech support?? horrible, unless you speak well with people from India
Summary Very disapointed
