Ink lasted longer than printer
Pros: Works okay when it's not broken
Cons: HORRIBLE lifespan

From new-to-dead in 14 months! I printed a TOTAL of about 150-200 pages on this printer over a year. I was very happy with it until one day it started making a loud noise and would not print (or even fax for that matter). Found out that I had a 30 cent gear that had A SINGLE tooth broken. Called HP, of course it was 2 months out of warrantee, and they told me they didn't make or distribute this part and the THIS $250 printer is a DISPOSABLE unit! I'm not sure about you but I don't consider $250 disposable. For crying out loud I haven't even changed either the color or black ink yet!!!

Poor software dooms decent printer
Pros: Multifunction printer
Cons: Software bugs render it a disappointment

When I bought this printer about a year ago, I noticed some problems with the software. The biggest problem is an apparent memory leak, which causes large print jobs can bring the computer to a halt, and which also forced me to deactivate Data Execution Prevention, a Windows XP feature which detects viruses at the hardware level on certain processors. (Basically, your printer software is acting like a virus and gets stopped by Windows). In addition, the "scan document" option crashes the HP Director software, which means you have to scan all documents as pictures. Uninstalling and reinstalling the software does not help. Unfortunately, HP hasn't updated the software since Feb 2002, so the problems haven't been fixed. The poor software, and worse, the lack of support for this product means I don't plan to buy any more HP printers.
