"We May Have A Winner" on
Pros: This will be my 3rd or 4th HP printer to have owned. I had a stretch where they seemed to die right after I bought another $50 worth of ink, so I switched to Epson. That had the problem that it seems ALL Epson printers suffer from -- clogged print nozzl
Cons: Installation on my Win2K took 5 hours and 2 calls to India. For some reason the print driver was incomplete for my Win2K setup. The fix was to install the software and uninstall it a few times with varying options selected each time. The installation p

"HP got it right...hardward and software" on
Pros: This product is so easy to setup and use that we actually use it all the time. The feeder can handle the volume of pages we need. The control panel faces forward for easy use from the front or from above...which is important because we keep the printer
Cons: No external media reader...but can be had in another model if that's important to you.

"Not user friendly" on by louie92120
Pros: printer and copier works fine
Cons: scanner not easy to use, fax not too sure about
Summary: I have had a number of HP all-in-ones. Each time, they are less user-friendly than the last. I've had this machine about 6 months.
My first. HP500 used to allow me to scan documents thru the machine, review each document, straighten each document (deskew), darken if necessary, then allow faxing of entire document. --not on this machine--
A file was created for each incoming doc, so if we needed to review last months faxes or a fax that came in while ink ran out, they
were available--not this machine--
Faxes and scans started immediately on the previous HP machines, this machine takes about 45 seconds to start scanning...or to set up an outgoing fax on the computer
On this machine, when pushing the scan button the machine says 'no connection'; requiring me to start scans from the computer.
Faxes feed crooked sometimes, with no way to fix except starting over.
When previewing faxes, the preview screen shows a reduced grainy image, zooming in to determine clarity is cumbersome--no editing allowed.
When scanning to document viewer, there is no way to rotate the image except starting over.
The scanner hooks up with a number of different programs--none of the HP people were able to give an acceptable description of how to use these efficiently. (document viewer, image zone, image share)
The response from HP was quite fast after sending a letter to them, but the customer srvice guy (from the USA) who called could do little more than empathize with me--NO ONE I spoke to actually knew how to use the machine or describe the features.
The peoply in India are polite, but are just reading out of a book.
Printer function works fine, ink cartridges seem small.
Sorry, I can't recommend HP all-in-ones anymore. -
"Pretty good!" on by Illini1
Pros: Good features
Cons: Tricky setup
Summary: I had the setup problems everybody else had. The CD that comes with the unit doesn't work, and neither do the "fixes" on their site, which are a complete waste of time. But, when I ordered the new CD from the site it came in 2 days and worked fine (if you uninstall everything you tried to do before and bail completely from any previous installation attempts which stalled at the reboot point, which can be tricky.) Also, I recently saw a sign in OfficeMax saying the CD "on a small number of units" doesn't work - so they seem finally to be acknowledging the setup problems prior to sale.
Now that it's working, I'm satisfied and love having a multifunction machine in my home office to an unreasonable degree. My expectations were low for the printing and scanning, and I had intended to use it primarily as a fax/copy machine and keep using my original printer, but my printer and scanner are now in early retirement. -
"very impressed" on by brianhb
Pros: nice size, great text and colour printing, stand-alone fax and scanner
Cons: software is slow to install, takes lots of memory and disk space; sheet feeder requires that you remove all the paper to feed through an envelope, software doesnt support scan to PDF
Summary: I have been shopping around for a multifunction printer for awhile. I have been looking for a unit that doesnt take up lots of deskspace, has a stand alone FAX and copier and has descent quality text output. Tried the Brother 420CN for a few weeks. I wanted to keep it because it was a such a small sleek unit but the print and scan quality was marginal. The HP 6210 was a little bit larger but infinately better build and printer output. Have been using the HP for a few days now and incredibly impressed.
