"Great printer- HORRENDOUS software"
Pros: Great quality, extremely easy to use with SD chips.
Cons: 778MB of bloatware. The "basic/minimal" install was 339MB. Takes hours to install.
Summary: I am a very technical person (work in the tech industry) and yet this printer has taken me hours to install. Even if everything goes perfectly smooth, installation takes about 45 minutes.
The bloatware on this printer is exceptionally large. I have looked far and wide and there is no basic driver that you can use in Add Printers in XP. They require that you install it with a bunch of other stuff like HP Director.
Supposedly the HP 6500 is a compatible printer driver (looks the same visually) but when I used it the printer kept hanging and it wouldn't print duplex.
This printer itself is exceptional (a 9 in my book) but it is a 1 when it comes to software.
One last note, the printer software (minimal or full) will not install if you have Roxio Easy CD Creator installed. I had to deinstall Roxio.
Was really excited about my new printer yesterday... Now I am just bummed.
NOTE TO HP: FIX YOUR SOFTWARE and provide a basic driver that works with XP's Add printer function (i.e. something <10MB)

Couldn't agree more. There should be a minimal driver-only solution for this damn printer. Last time I installed the "minimal" HP solution, it basically took over the PC and generated endless error messages for months. Shame on HP.

I had 0 issues installing this on Win98 2nd ed, XP, or my wireless network. All setup very easy and can be accessed by all computers wired and wireless with all functionality. I recommend this to all for an all in one machine.

You've nailed it dude! This software bites!!!!
I am now on day two of trying to get a good install of the Full Feature Network version of the software. I'm writing this as I'm waiting for the install log files to scroll so I can open a case with HP and tell them in person how BAD their software is. -
Gregvi complains about the size of the drivers and lack of a "Add New Printer" driver for an All-In-One machine. This bloat in the software is due to the bloat in the functionality of the device purchased. If one wants a small printer-only driver, one shouldn't be using an All-In-One.
In addition, working in the "tech industry" is spectacularly vague and can mean almost anything. This is like a janitor at Microsoft saying only "I work at Microsoft" when offering advice on a new computer.
The conflict with Roxio is due to Roxio running while installing the apps. I've seen this myself. Uninstalling Roxio is not required; cleaning the startup temporarily via msconfig works just fine. With any large-ish install you should shut down all running apps.
