"Software makes this product almost USELESS. Prepare to have hours of your time wasted."
Pros: The unit itself works okay. Printing works fine.
Cons: The HP Director and scanner driver will randomly "not find" the HP 7310
Summary: The software (HP Director / scanner driver) will randomly not find the HP 7310. This happens 2 out of 3 times i try to scan something.
When it happens, the scanner gets "stuck", and has to be power cycled. This takes a looooooooooooooooong time. Sometimes the PC must also be rebooted in order to find the HP 7310 again.
In short, just scanning 1 page CAN TAKE UP TO 90 MINUTES thanks to all the power cycling you have to do.
Printer function works fine, tho.

I've had the same problems with the losing scanner and losing network connection. HP has no fix other than re-installing original software CD. Document feeder also fails too often when faxing 12+ pages. Only owned since May-2006, HP replaced printer in Nov-2006 and feeder problems occuring again (Mar-2007).

I agree, the installation and driver software for this HP printer is terrible.
There is a workaround for the networking problems. Using the setup on the printer, one can configure it to use a static IP address. You can then edit registry keys to stop the computer from searching for the printer every time you print, or uninstall and reinstall (the installation process will detect that the printer has been configured with a manual IP address).
