"Trust Me - This printer is not worth the headache"
Pros: Full of Features
Cons: To many problems
Summary: I would love this printer only if it would work. The features and capabilities are excellent. Unfortunately HP did not debug the software and hardware before selling it.
1) Scanner does not scan muliple pages without errors
2) Automatic document feeders misfeed and take two or more papers at times.
3) Paper feed trays also have similar problems
4) 802.11 wireless ethernet is a nightmare. My two laptops do not stay networked. The bi-directional ethernet communication is terrible. The computers are running Vista and HP says this is the source of many problems.
The technical support / warranty is the most frustrating experience of all. I have spent 5-7 of the most frustrating hours with HP tech support in India and they cannot resolve my concerns. Tech support never calls back, I am frequently disconnected during conversations, and call quality is horrible.
No one can make any decisions so I always routed to different people and I have to run through the same maze of troubleshooting menus with multiple people. This makes the warranty worthless in my opinion.
I am on week two with tech support with still no resolution. Trust me, the extra bells and whistles are not worth the headaches. Pass on this product.

The HP 7780 is junk. Drivers unreliable, customer support horrible; Tech support uninstalled files; when the computer wouldn?t boot up told me to contact my computer manufacture as I now had a computer problem, not a printer problem. Another time when it wouldn?t print, tech support had me replace all the ink cartiages twice. I argued with him. He said he?d send me ink to replace the ink I had to trash. Three months later no ink. I called again. They refused to send any ink saying there was nothing in their records about free ink. When you have a problem and they can't fix, tell them to elevated it. Level 2 tech support is just more of the same nonsense. You need to talk to a HP case manager. These are the folks who have the power to buy your machine back from you. I made the mistake of turning down that offer as I really liked the L7780 features. The problem is they don?t work. After swapping out the L7780 for the third time they offered me a HP 8500. I took it.

AMEN!!! i HAVE HAD THIS MACHINE SINCE IT FIRST CAME OUT!! I bought it from HP. I paid for the 3 year exteded warranty!! THANK GOD!!!!!! I am on my 5th machine. If you use it, you are lucky if you make it 6 months without a problem. I just received one due to a frozen hardware issue. Now, my computer is SCREWED and HP is telling me that the Service Pack 3 and this machine have compatibility issues!!!! If you ever have to do a re-install on XP Pro you will have to wipe your harddrive clean!!! I have a computer guru and he says that he runs into this problem all the time!!!!! I talke to HP and they acted like it was Microsoft's fault. I asked about a fis and they said they were not offering that becaue Vista is out. This is ridculous!!! HELP HP!!! As a Realto, I have been using the all in ones for 20 years. THIS IS THE WORST ONE I HAVE EVER OWNED!!!!!!!!!!

I also completely agree.
TECH SUPPORT:
1. HP tech support is SO bad that they recommended we "reinstall the operating system" (restore-from-DVD/harddrive) when the drivers didn't work. Huh?
2. Their only warning before recommending the above (#1) was "do you have any photos/pictures?" No mention of complete blow-away reinstall.
3. They have no ability to DIAGNOSE or TROUBLESHOOT. Just read from some tech knowledgebase which is useless.
PRINTER:
1. HP says that "empty lines within the print area are normal". No they're not...
2. Wireless is horrible. It won't connect to our wireless hub - and stay connected.
3. Do you go away on vacation and disconnect your devices? Plan on spending hours dealing with getting this back online.
4. The alignment and clean cartridges process is horrendous - and lengthy. -
I also agree with the above. I wanted to use a very simple feature on the fax - print a report with an image of the fax sent - almost all faxes do this. The feature is listed on the menu, but after hours and hours of speaking to India and being given bad information, I was finally told that this feature was disabled because it took up too much memory. So much for buying top of the line. If this feature had worked, I would have been generally satisfied with the printer, although I agree about the wireless problems. Most of the time it will not transfer photos to the computer from the card reader. To HP's credit, they are allowing me to return the printer for a full refund. I am staying away from HP this time mostly because of their horrendous tech support.

I also had a miserable time with tech support in India--long wait, useless advice, delivered v-e-r-y slowly. She finally concluded that she had solved my problem--her conclusion was it is impossible to have the fax auto-answer. I had to keep insisting that I wanted to speak with her supervisor--she wanted to try some other ideas--but finally got through to a great supervisor who walked me thru auto-answer set. HINT: The default may be set to "special ring", which you want to turn off in order to get the auto fax to pick up.
