"Up to HP Standards"
4.0 starson by gbrown0619Pros: Excellent Photo Quality, Quiet Operation, Wireless
Cons: Severely limited document feeder, Optional Duplex Printing
Summary: Out of the box setup was a breeze. Except for one " XP Blue Screen of Death fatal error" due to USB hangup.
The photo quality is excellent, something I expected from HP. I do like the additional 4x6 photo paper slot. The print speed is amazing! Really fast even in the highest print mode. During the printing process, I had to take a second look to make sure my photo's were printing! This printer is so quiet, it amazes me.
The wireless setup was a nice pleasent surprise. I was able to be up and wireless in minutes. Nothing out of the ordinary and even a novice can do it. Very staight forward with good insturctions included.
The scanner is quiet and is fast enough for the average home user. The output quality from scanning is about average.
The 3.6 LCD monitor is a nice feature and is lage enough to actually use.
My only criticism is the limited 8x11 document feeder. It is severely limited so if you do a large amount of printing at one shot, better keep some extra paper near by to feed this thing.
All in All, I'm glad I made the purchase.Updated
I had my printer for a week and all of a sudden, not I get the "Blue Screen of Death" on the printers LCD monitor. Error codes that only a IT could love. I followed the Troubleshooting procedures outlined by HP's web site. I got it to work in the wireless mode again, but the USB connection is completely dead. Called HP and please don't get me wrong here.....but I really like to speak to someone I can understand. ie: English! No help what so ever. The last words that were spoken by the HP Tech Rep....."Take it back to where you got it!" This is not the type of support I've come to know from HP.
Needless to say I'm returning this unit back for another one. I'll write another User Opinion on that one if needed.

Installation was not as simple as another user indicated. Took four hours to get the wireless connected and the printer operational. Then tried to scan a picture. Scan feature would not work. Spent 4 hours on the phone with HP Support in India, uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling software; crippling anti-virus, Spy-Sweeper, etc. Still wouldnt work. Tried hooking up via USB. Scanner still wouldnt work. HP-India offered to send another "new" software CD which would arrive in a week. Meanwhile, the printer capability stopped working as well. The wireless light is lit up, the IP address is correct, but there is now NO print capability either.<br>I also dont like the fact that there's no sheet feeder for copies or faxes.<br>This looks like a beautiful machine but useless in this home office goes. It's being returned to Staples tomorrow.

I called the tech rep to ask questions on scanning as it did not look right to me for wallet picture scanning but like you I had a hard time understanding as my tech rep was in India but he was glad to replace the unit if I wanted to but he did say it sounds like there is no problem after we did a few different type of prints and I reported what I seen, the tech was very nice to me the whole time, if at any time you feel something is not right with any tech support always ask for the supervisor or if problems trying to do that call back later and ask for a supervisor right off and talk direction to the supervisor only, has worked for me on many things and would get better results to what I need if the tech was unable to do what was needed, good luck and hope you did not take it back yet? but if you did hope the new one works well with you.
