"Piece of JUNK!" on by misterectomy

    Pros: Worked for 3 weeks

    Cons: Died after 3 weeks

Summary: The ink went dry after less than 20 pages. The false paper jams started after 3 weeks. I can't get the jams to clear. The printer is still new and is completely useless.

I should have Spent the extra money and bought something better. You should too.

"Another HP lemon" on by doctorbloor

Pros: Small footprint for all it does; decent print quality for the money; essentially got it for free with a rebate

    Cons: Quirky software, unreliable hardware

Summary: I don't usually write reviews, much less bad ones, but HP has earned this one. Once upon a time I had an HP printer that was a real tank--did everything I asked of it, and more. The last two, however (including this one), died within two weeks of being taken out of the box. From my experience alone, I'd have to guess that either their quality control has hit the skids, or they're simply trying to get their products to do too much at too low a price point.

The 4280 I had insisted on trying to reinstall the drivers everytime I reconnected it to my computer. Weird, but tolerable. However, after printing roughly 500 pages, the feed mechanism went haywire and everything created a paper or carriage jam. It's still under warranty, and I'll presumably be able to get it replaced, but I'd really rather not.

I know, I know, you get what you pay for. And I'm not out any $, just annoyed by the experience. But these guys are going to kill their brand by selling junk like this.

"Scan button does not work with Vista" on by detaillook

Pros: Easy to use and cheap

    Cons: Bad technical support

Summary: I had few HP printers before and was happy with them. But this printer and HP technical support frustrated me a lot. The Scan button located on top of the printer does not work with Windows Vista. After pressing two times, an Error Message showed up on my screen, HP message invited me to go to a solution in a HP website. I clicked on the solution and was sent to a website for Windows XP trouble shoot ! Nothing for Vista at all! It is November of 2007 and HP does not have a trouble shoot webpage for Vista?! So, I phoned HP Technical support and asked them if the Scan button on my HP Photosmart C4280 was defective. The HP technician assured me the button would work if I follow his suggestions. After almost TWO hours of going through many procedures it did not work. I was exhausted and needed a big break. Next day another HP technician told me that the button does NOT work and even show me the
HP website stating that and the cause The cause (I quote from the HP website) is "The drivers in the Windows Vista operating system do not support button press funcionality on the printer." But outside of the box of this printer, there is the seal "Certified for Windows Vista". That means that the printer should work perfect with Vista. But does not ! Is this a case of false advertisent? Well, it looks to me that is the case. Not only the Scan button does not work. The Scan Software in the HP Solution window did not work and sent me to the same website with nothing for Vista users ! So, printer Scan button and Scan software do not work !
And the definition of a Windows Certified product as this HP printer is (according to HP website) : "Certified for Windows Vista Software and Peripherals

Software and peripherals that bear the Certified for Windows Vista logo have been tested to meet high quality standards and deliver a superior end-user experience when used with PC running a Windows Vista operating system. Purchasing a software package or a peripheral that includes the Certified for Windows Vista logo ensures that you get a product that has been tested to deliver a high quality user experience and that the product has been tested to meet all of the technical requirements to qualify for the Certified for Windows Vista program."

I seems to me, based on my unpleasant experience with HP technical support that they are not organized at all ! How come one day a HP technician tell me the Scan button works and I wasted Two hours without result. And the next day another HP tech show me a HP website stating the same button does not work!

"Don't Waste Your Money on This" on by felixmigueljimenez

Pros: I liked the price. It was really cheap for a multifunction device.

Cons: Ink cartridges empty really fast they are supposed to print at least 500 pgs but I dont get to print even 250 pgs; Ink is $15 each cartridge (two slots) and the it won't work well with ink not manufactured by HP nor does it work well with refills

Summary: Sometimes it doesnt recognize the ink cartidges or says that there are no ink cartrdiges even though I had just put new brand cartiridges in there. Sometimes it prints sometimes I guess it needs some rest, even though I just use it the most five times a week, and it wont print. I get frustrated a lot when I use this printer so I dont advise anyone to buy it, this is really a piece of junk!

"good for its price and my needs" on by daskier1

Pros: cheap, good compact size, cheapish cartridge replacements, relatively quick copy

Cons: scan is slow, not the fastest or greatest quality print

Summary: if i needed to pay for it, i probably would have gotten a different printer on free will. considering this was a free printer with the macbook i bought, its pretty good. i'm a student, and it serves my purposes perfectly. however, it prints a bit slowly, the scan isn't really quick or terrific looking. for free, great; if you have to pay for it though, look for a canon or epson instead.
