"Awful photo quality, HP can't fix, won't refund" on by jikamens
Pros: fast text, compact footprint, nice integration of features, easy to use
Cons: awful photo print quality, awful support
Summary: I bought this printer primarily for high-quality photo prints, but I haven't gotten a single one out of it. Every print has lines across the sheet where inkjets aren't firing properly. HP has sent me two replacement printers and five replacement ink cartridges, and none of them has solved the problem. I've asked them to take back the printer, ink and photo paper, all of which I purchased directly from HP, and give me a refund, and they've refused.

"Great job printing printable CD/DVDs" on by ldpldp
Pros: Printing CD/DVDs seems to be solid.
Cons: No Mac software
Summary: I bought for printing on printable CD/DVDs. I've printed about 50 DVDs with no problems. Its easy to use and now my DVDs look great.
Only concern - no Mac Software. Found Apple's Pages (word processor) could do the job. Overall, it works fine scanning and printing documents. Ink usage seems normal. Extra capacity ink cartridges (94xl and 95 xl) not easy to find. -
"Missing Critical Functionality with Mac OS X" on by halfbreed7092
Pros: Decent print quality
Cons: Not fit for multi page scanning or flexibility- ink hog
Summary: Purchased this printer several months ago direct from Apple to accompany my new iMac G5, and have been really unimpressed. For the price it is an OK printer (but you can do better) but the "All In One" label leads you to expect more than this printer can deliver.
Set up is as easy as any other printer. Page speed is a little slow and adjusting print quality/speed leaves much to be desired.
I purchased this device primarily for scanning and this is where it has really let me down. On page scans are OK, but my first experience with the stock HP Device Manager driver was really horrible. There are multiple output options for scanning a document: OCR to Text, PDF, TIFF, JPG,..etc. But the only option that worked was "PDF to Preview" which was really clumsy. Scanning any other output setting literally had the document lost in space- never to be retreived. Additionally, after scanning one page of a document, the system asks you if you want a second page, which it does, but you are unable to modify your resolution or size settings on the second page. So, if you like to scan at a lower resolution to save storage space, the first page scans according to your desired settings, but subsequent pages are scanned at 200 resolution, full size (about 2-4MB per page!). After spending 1 hour on the phone with HP support, the second page's scan resolution is not customizable becase the machine was only designed to scan single pages or images, despite having cusom scan settings and the utility asking if you want to scan another page. What a waste.
Also, if you live outside of the US (as I do), you'll be frustrated by the fact that the default is to print on US Letter, and there is no way to print on, say, the EU standard A4 paper.
Save your money and buy a Cannon or Lexmark, which will get you better scan functionality and probably WiFi capable. -
"Not bad but not that great" on by kphobden
Pros: Easy set up, fast and great photos
Cons: Constantly says there is a paper jam
Summary: Loved all the features of this printer however, everytime I print it says there is a paper jam after the first page comes out. Most times you can clear it just by hitting ok. There usually isn't a jam at all.

"Couldn't even set it up" on by camsoucy
Pros: Looks really sharp on the desk
Cons: Serves only as paperweight
Summary: While following set-up instructions to the letter, I ran into a brick wall in the form of this message: "CANNOT PRINT BECAUSE CD/DVD TRAY IS OPEN." The tray was not open, of course, but it didn't matter because the printer wouldn't print, copy, scan or do anything "BECAUSE CD/DVD TRAY IS OPEN."
The cruel irony is that of all the functions on this printer, the one that I have no interest in is the ability to print labels on CDs and DVDs.
About five years ago, I got burned by a piece of HP equipment. Here I take a second chance, and it happens again.
