Pros It prints (sometimes.)
Cons Rarely stays connected to the wireless network.
Constantly has to be reset in order to connect.
Faded print quality.
Printhead constantly needs to be cleaned/realigned.
Touch-screen interface is sporadically non-responsive.
No document feeder.
Summary I bought this on CNet's recommendation as one #2 of the best 5 printers. I honestly believe they must have gotten their data mixed up. Now, I know this is an "economy" printer, but even economy printers should work when you need them to. I specifically wanted a wireless printer so that all the computers on my network (some Mac, some Windows) could use it without any single machine having to share it. That works in theory, but every time the printer goes to sleep, and you power it back on to print, it NEVER reconnects to the network. No machine will be able to reach it. I have to reset it by powering it off, unplugging it for 30 seconds, then powering it back on again. Only then will it properly connect and be usable. This happens 100% of the time. It sits literally 10 feet from the wireless router, and the connection indicator on the printer will glow green as if it is connected, but it's not.
The rest of the problems I have with this thing are trivial by comparison. However, you should know what you're getting into. The touchscreen interface is horrible. There is a huge delay between my touch and its response. It makes you wonder every time if you actually touched it in the right spot. But don't be too quick to touch a second time...you may end up "double touching" and selecting something you didn't mean to!
Furthermore, the printhead constantly needs to be cleaned or realigned. I just looked back at it right now, and there is a big warning sign AGAIN that says "There is a problem with the printhead." I wonder if it needs to be cleaned or realigned this time.
Do NOT buy this printer. You will end up throwing it away and buying another at twice the price, ending up spending 3 times the original amount you spent on this gigantic paperweight. CNet, you should be ashamed of yourself for improperly reviewing this printer. Or is Lexmark a big sponsor of yours that you don't want to disparage?
Pros Low price (Purchased on sale for less than $100), reliable, wonderful connectivity, great print product, never jammed (???).
Cons Ink cartridges run out a little fast and are unable to refill at the local office max or costco, touch screen is a tad slow at times.
Summary I have this printer connected to (3) computers via a N connection, w/ the router about 40' away, & have never suffered a lost connection. Not one jam 2 report to date (purchased in 02/10), & I even walked my wife over phone on using the card reader 2 transfer pictures wirelessly to one of the pcs! I just had 2 write & comment on how wonderful our printer has been! Good luck everyone!
Pros Replaced 2 HP printers in terms of ink and energy consumption; fast first-print delay time, can handle big work load, smooth LCD interface, user-friendly, capable of double-sided and one-sided printing
Cons Needs to be set-up properly or your printout will look bad, user needs to carefully set the ink amount for the printing (when set at the default option, printout quality is low), limited features but good for simple office printing
Summary I bought mine from amatteroffax.com for $160 and it was probably one of the best things I got online. I thought it was a bit expensive at first, compared to other printers with the same specs but the quality was better and it could handle more work than other multifunctional printers. I had trouble with other Lexmark products in the past (setup problems) but getting this one up was a breeze. The print-outs were okay but if you don't set the color and quality to a certain, you could get ugly pictures. I think you need to be very meticulous with everything on Lexmark because the default settings are not as good compared to default settings on other printers like Canon and HP. You have tons of options on this printer such as double sided or one sided printing.
Pros Nil. Terrible printer.
Cons Unusable. A new error message appears every time it prints, requiring something be moved or touched. Once the top is opened and closed without doing anything, it then prints. The printer is a total joke. Get something else.
Summary Don't buy it.
Pros small, decent color, Lexmark cartridge return program, duplex
Cons I am on my replacement machine and now have replaced the print head twice after replacing the printer. The customer service people are competent - they get a lot of practice. It regularly loses its wireless connection and I have to reinstall it.
Summary Run from this printer, too much of its time is down time and too much of my time is spent talking with Lexmark.
