    Pros: Wireless printing

Cons: Both inks to print AT ALL

Summary: I have not had any problems with this printer until the color ink ran out. I do not print much in color and just wanted to print a black document. The printer is designed to NOT print anything, even if you have black ink, until you pay to replace the color ink as well. I could never print anything else in color, but I still have to have full color ink sitting there in the machine for the printer to work. This is just a way for Lexmark to continue to suck money out of their consumers. Technical service chat was no help either. None of this information is included in their documentation they send with the printer. If you want a printer to print documents in black ink, make sure you are willing to always front the bill for the color ink as well.

Isn't that rediculous - a printer that won't print a black copy when the Cyan ink is empty! The only reason any of the color ink cartridges are empty is because every time you turn off your printer, it defaults back to the color ink feature. Have you tried to refill the ink? Impossible because they Lexmark can't sell you more ink at their rediculous prices if you can refill it yourself. Another problem I've had is when I try to fax, the printer will give me a message that say's "line in use" and I have to turn it off an back on before I can fax. Finally, this is the SLOWEST printer I have ever used. The low cost up front does not begin to be worth my time wasted in trying to keep up with all the problems I've had with this printer. I'm going to drop it off the nearest high place TODAY and purchase something other than a Lexmark.

This is actually not true. What is required is that you change the settings in the printing instructions, or you change from colour printing to black only, on the machine itself. There is a dedicated button for that. I have had the experience of all 3 colour CMY going empty on me but the black still had some left. I printed black and white till it just couldn't print anymore. Then I installed my present set.

My difficulty with the unit is that it no longer prints wirelessly, which was the reason I got it. I am now going to have to connect via Ethernet, just to see if that might work better.

I agree with you 100%. I have wanted to return the printer since the day I installed it, but their reps are of no help. Now they are sending a replacement head, even though I want to return the printer. The new head will not solve the 'wasting color ink' problem. I've owned 6 Lexmark printers, and unless they get me a replacement (I will pay the difference) that allows me to print in black (without the need for color cartridges) they have lost me as a customer forever. According to their reps, Lexmark currently does not make any printer that can print with black cartridges only. This company wants to leave a large carbon footprint, wasting precious resources, and your money replacing color cartridges that you do not need. This company is no longer 'green', just wanting you to waste color cartridges and pay for replacements, just so that you can print in black. Nowhere in their literature is it revealed that the printer fails to work unless all cartridges have ink in them.
