"good for the price, but there are better machines"
Pros: print and scan quality not bad for average needs
Cons: Software is a little skimpy on options, you can't refill your own cartridges
Summary: For 50 bucks it's not a bad all-in-one. I don't need super high quality printing, and it's fast enough for me. My frustration is that when I scan a document, I can't figure out how to reduce the file size within the Lexmark software. I have to scan, save, open in another program, resize, save again. Kinda bothersome. Also, major irritation is that I can't refill my own ink cartridges with this machine. I'm used to saving quite a bit of money by refilling several times before the inkjets wear out. I bought a refill kit, filled the old color cartridge with new ink, and the software keeps telling me the cartridge is empty and I can't print (the software literally shuts down the color capability until you replace the cartridge). I called customer support and they told me that Lexmark printers no longer support refilled cartridges. They say they've had too many problems with them, so you can't do it any more. My opinion is that Lexmark wants to make more money on their expensive replacements, so they make the customer fork out 40 or 50 bucks every time they run out of ink. To replace the cartridges is almost the same as buying a whole new printer. It's freakin' wasteful and it ticks me off completely. My next machine will probably be a Canon or whatever brand gives me acceptable quality and allows me to refill. Thanks a lot, Lexmark!
