"Took it back. I needed a scanner and its really a printer."
Pros: Not hard to figure out, unless of course my problem wasn't that it didn't work, but I couldn't figure it out!
Cons: No amount of adjusting gave me a useable document scan.
Summary: I need documents, both text and pictures, for business reports. Either the resolution was totally inadequate (it defaults to 300 dpi) or increases made the resulting files so large the computer locked up (and I have no shortage of ram or memory)and the resulting files were HUGE and not useable for my purposes. This is not my first scanner, far from it. Usually there is some combination of settings that works out fine. I couldn't find it on this one. It was easier for me to take it back than struggle with it.
Seems like most "scanners" these days are really made to print photos, this one was useless as a copy machine. I printed a fairly decent color document, then put it on the scanner and pressed copy to get a terribly bleached out version of the document. Pretty much convinced me the issue was in the scanning, my bet is the software. Increasing the dpi expanded the page and it didn't fit on the paper.
By the way, they didn't include a black and white cartridge or a usb cord. That was cutting it a little close on credibility for me. I have bought a scanner when I was on the road twice, I would have been snookered without the electronic miscellany I keep at home. I don't recall any previous purchase not having what you needed for your first run a using it. Of course, things seem to be changing fast.
