"Printer and service are horrible!" on by jmebth84

    Pros: appealing to the eye

    Cons: will not work wirelessly

Summary: I bought this printer thinking that I could use it for my 3 computers in the house. I was sadly mistaken. It will not do anything wirelessly. It will only work through a USB cable. When I called customer support, they were rude, I had to be on hold for 3 hours before I got any kind of human to talk to. They were no help. Do not listen when they promise you a next day delivery. They told me that a week ago and I am still waiting. It is conveniently "on back order" as soon as they put in my order. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!

"Good cheap option" on by TechieMike

Pros: Works well (after firmware update), clean crisp scans, decent printing time and clarity

Cons: Needed firmware update to prevent it from freezing up on its own every 3 to 4 days, higher resolutions scans take longer than others scanners I have used, sucks down the ink as bad or worse than many other inkjets, DOES NOT WORK WITH WIN7. Lexmark custome

Summary: For a cheap all in one, this X4550 (as well as similar Lexmark models) works quite well. It uses up ink like the worst of the inkjets but you get good quality prints in the process. Works great in Vista and XP, but does not work at all in Windows 7. Only work around for Windows 7 that I have found is to share the printer from another XP/Vista PC on your local network, install the software on the Win7 PC, and point it to the shared printer. Without that work around, this device is useless with Windows 7, unless you do not want to actually print anything, then the copy and scan functions work just fine with Win7.

"useless under Win7" on by pcarss

    Pros: It looks really nice

Cons: Won't work reliably under XP or Win7

Summary: Just spent over two hours with tech support using remote assistance, attempting to get this printer working (again.) It has never worked properly on either USB or wireless in the two years I've had it.

They offered me 20% off MSRP on a new one, but I think I've had my first and last Lexmark!

"a great printer for non pro home printing mostly text" on by sbrown1001

Pros: Given that I paid 85 and got office depot points, this was the best deal i could get. wireless networked printing its grea

    Cons: slow, not great resolution

Summary: Bottom line, since I write and print mostly text this was perfect for my family. The set up disk adds computers quickly and we just print at will. Not only that I can move the printer from room to room and just plug it it. It finds my wireless signal. I dont need speed or graphics quality so I just love this printer. I buy manufactures ink on ebay for 50% cost and return the cartriges to staples, office depot or office max for credit. What more could you ask?
