"Poor scan quality"
on by jasorensPros Printing OK. Software easy to use.
Cons Poor scan quality above 600 dpi
Summary I have no problem with print quality and ease of use of this unit. However, at scan resolutions above 600 dpi, the images are corrupted by a jagged edge pattern that renders ordinary photographs fuzzy and images with fine details (fine lines, etc.) virtually unusable. (See review in PC World for similar findings.)

"Not a bad printer. OEM ink tends to gum up and leak."
on by Captain_JasonPros pretty darn reliable. Pretty easy to use. Interfaces well with computer. very satisfactory printing results in general. better quality for the money than a lot of other printers. Takes to refills pretty well, thereby saving $$ on ink.
Cons OEM ink tends to gum up easily. Has significant leaking problem with black ink, specifically. Has occasional problem recognizing cartridges (frustrating, too). light colored print doesn't scan very well in .pdf function.
Summary All in all, this has been a reasonably good and reliable printer for the last 5 years that I have been using it. Try to avoid using 'genuine Lexmark ink' though - it is poor quality ink. Costco refills of the extra capacity cartidges is less expensive and gives superior product performance (I literally can hardly wait for an OEM cartridge to empty so that I can get it refilled!). After 5 years, the only problem is the leaking problem, which does negatively impact envelope printing and the last few sheets of paper in the holding tray (thats where a lot of ink goes to, thereby staining the last 5-10 sheets of paper in the holding tray. All buttons function properly after all this time. Only broken part is the printed paper tray end piece.

"I like it does nice pictures and documents from it."
on by noittechPros you can fax from your pc and alone
Cons it gets disconnected from the network.
Summary It does a good job of supporting a home or small business printing network. I am also wondering if anyone has a cd for it so I can put the productivity suite back on my computer. That is for a Lexmark X7170 multifunction printer. If so, please email me and let me know.

"Documents are just okay. Picture prints are terrible."
on by ajem7741Pros Documents print okay. Just average. Nothing special.
Cons Paper jams all the time. Pictures look awful. Even when you put in the photo ink, it is terrible.
Summary Not worth the money.. Way to much hassle involved in ownership. PictBridge doesn't work either. DO NOT BUY!

"Excellent printer for the price ($70)"
on by Notorious_IIPros Fast print speed, excellent picture quality
Cons HUGE size, lack of cartridge longevity
Summary I have had this printer for almost a year. My only technical problem came when I was trying to do two sided printing. I got a misfeed and my color cartridge was ruined. I called Lexmark and had a free replacement cartridge in a couple of business days. I usually get around 150-200 pages out of one black printer cartridge. I'm not sure if this is good or bad but I would think a cartridge would print an entire ream of paper (500 pages).
