"Do not buy!"
Pros: worked great for a few months!
Cons: Unreliable! Terrible print quality!
Summary: Worked fine for several months and the contrast faded. Images now are all grey. This appears to be a recurring problem for a number of us who made the mistake of purchasing this printer MFC-8220. Brother troubleshooting web site is of no help. Faxback phone number is always busy. The problem is not being addressed by the company. Do not make the mistake I made. Buy anything other than a Brother printer!

From what you say in your review, it sounds like your printer may have the "Toner Save Mode" turned on. I tried that mode once or twice, but the print quality was so dismal, I turned it off immediately. To turn it off, find the printer list. "Control Panel" in the "Start" menu is a good place to look, under "Printers and Faxes". When you find the list, right-click on whichever Brother MFC-8220 option that you use, and select "Properties". In the window that comes up, select the "Advanced" tab, and click on the "Printing Defaults" button.
In the next window that comes up, select the "Printer Function" tab, and click on "Toner Save Mode" in the list. If this mode is turned on, click on "Off", and remember to click on the "Apply" buttons as you back out of all those menus. If that mode was turned on, turning it off will probably restore your printer to its original good print quality.
