"Unacceptable ink cartridge life"
Pros: When it prints in black, it PRINTS. The page will be soaked through with ink.
Cons: I bought a new ink cartridge today for this printer. $17. I printed one 8-page article. Afterward, the printer status informed me that 150 pages remain on this ink cartridge. One benefit of this printer is that those estimates are very accurate.
Summary: It is unacceptable for a printer and ink cartridge in 2009 to get 158 pages to a $17-dollar cartridge. Additionally, I removed the color cartridge because the device refused to print with an empty cartridge. Now, every time I print a page, I am prompted with a window informing me there's a MISSING INK CARTRIDGE. Yes. I KNOW. I TOOK IT OUT. Even more additionally, Dell has a corporate partnership with Staples. Therefore, the ONLY places you can obtain replacement cartridges are online through Dell's web site or at Staples. These practices are utterly unacceptable in a world in which consumers have as many choices as we do. If Dell wants to retain its printer-buying customers who mistakenly wound up with this doozy, it would do well to refund them, or replace it with something more ink-efficient.
