"All-around fabulous machine!"
Pros: Amazing color/photo quality; duplex printing; document feeder; fast scans
Cons: Huge; double-sided printing slow; my 1st was defective (but 2nd is perfect)
Summary: I bought this to replace my old Microtek scanner, HP DeskJet printer, and Panasonic fax machine because I was sick of the clutter. I researched all-in-ones obsessively before buying and decided on this one, thanks to the great reviews and affordable price. I found a great deal for it and it turned out being significantly less than some HPs I was looking at that had less features.
PROS: This unit has some really surprising bonus features that I love, like the duplex printing and automatic document feeder. It scans super fast, faxes great, and prints astonishingly vibrant and flawless color graphics and photos (and I haven't even tried glossy photo paper yet!) There's a cool front door that you can close when not in use to keep it looking sleek--it opens automatically when something gets printed. Another awesome feature that I discovered by accident is that you can actually scan a document directly into pdf format! I'm shocked they let you do this without having to buy the full Adobe Acrobat product. It's a cool feature for archiving documents, for example. There's a lot of software and it may be a little overwhelming for a newbie, but although I haven't looked at it with a lot of detail yet, every job I've had to do so far has been failry quick and easy.
CONS: Black text quality is variable. When I print a document that is strictly text on ink jet paper, it comes out pretty good, but I've noticed that when there's colors on the page, it's less good (still not terrible, but upon close inspection you may see some tiny imperfections--something that even my old HP didn't do). It's worse if you're using cheap plain paper that's not meant for inkjets. Also, the unit is HUGE and bulbous, but the glossy black accents and closing front panel help keep it looking a little attractive (but they do show dust easily). Duplex printing is quite slow but in my opinion, still beats the old-fashioned way because sometimes when I'd do that on my old printers, there'd be a problem and the whole document would get out of synch and I'd have to toss it and start over, which was very frustrating--not to mention you had to baby-sit the damn thing. Finally, my first unit was defective--when I'd scan, part of the page would come out grey. I returned it and the second one has been perfect for over a month now.
Overall, I love my Pixma so far and I don't feel like I "settled" at all by getting an all-in-one machine.

I have my mp780 for 9 months and I have nothing but satisfaction with it until 3 weeks ago. Anything that I print in color now has a bright green hue saturation. I have tried everything and can't get rid of it. I had it once before and did some deep head cleaning and all was fine, but now I nothing seems to work.???
Even though I am currently having this problem, I would not hesitate to buy another if I had to. -
This was bought to have a fax machine and scanner at home. I did not expect such good scanning quality for my photos and such an excellent photo printing capability! It is as good as my Canon i860 printer. This is all the machine any home or home office will ever need. Very glad I bought it. Easy software to use.
