    "Excellent All-In-One Choice!"

by lakingz on March 24, 2005

Pros: Stand Alone Faxing, Scanning, Copying & Photo Printing.

    Cons: Nothing significant

Summary: Had my Epson 880 and Panasonic Fax machine go out. Did my research here and elsewhere, ended up getting the Canon MP780. Very impressed with the features so far. Have tested using my Canon PowerShot A80 connected to Printer. Easy choice, from camera to select paper, quality and other choices. Prints come out very well.

Has a sleep mode where the machine stays on, but turns off the scanner lamp and other displays after a set time. Printer will work with computer without waking the whole machine. Front panel where paper comes out automatically opens when printing, receiving a fax or other printing (just one of those "NEAT" features)

Best feature for me is the distinctive ring feature for the fax. I have been hard pressed to find a fax machine that not only has that feature, but will work with ONE RING. My phone system rings in on two lines and the phone system picks up in two rings. Now I can have my fax line back without changing, turning the machine on or off and switching the phone line. With the sleep feature, it wakes up and picks up the correct incoming ringing line and receives the fax, opens the front panel and prints out the pages with NO action on my part. I love it just for that!

Print quality is very good, slightly better that my Epson 880 in some instances. It's a very good value for under $300. Looks good, display easy to read. Comes with an HTML detailed manual, but has a paper quick start and getting started guide.

Multiple task machines are a lot more complicated to understand. I couldn't even figure out where the printer paper loading was located. Wish mfg.s hadn't gotten so stingy with operating manuals. There isn't one for the Pixma so I guess I'll haveto print one out from the online instructions -- a drag.
