"mac users get a raw deal"
Pros: great printer
Cons: ZERO scanner for macs
Summary: Yes it is a great all in one if you are a pc. But what if you are a mac user? What then? Then you get a raw deal. Thats what it is. The scanner function does not work with a macintosh system. Yes there is a scanner driver software in the cd or samsung website for macOS. Yes, but that does not mean you can scan with the machine. For that you have to buy costly (read me buy) third party software (that includes OCR) Otherwise you get stuck with only a printer. Also the much touted toner save functionality does not work with macOS. My guess the starter cartridge will last only 200 pages with a mac. So there is nothing to be excited about low running costs. So buy another mfc that has all the necessary software including OCR meant specifically for mac.

Hi, since 10.4 you can use Image Capture or Preview (Mac OS X bult-in apps) to capture images from scanner. The unit is supplied with Mac OS X scanner driver and the scanning is controlled via Image Capture or Preview. And as for the toner save mode - you can set the toner saving mode in the unit - in the menu inside. So not that raw deal... Next time check twice what are you posting. Thanks

Not sure what version of OS X you are running, but load the MAC drivers and then use "Image Capture" to run the scanner. It is similar to the PC Samsung software, but you can set your desired scanning resolution and can set the area you wish to scan.
Apple Help for Image Capture says:
In Mac OS X 10.4, install the software that came with the scanner. Connect using a USB and turn it on. Place your image on the scanner's bed. Click Scan Setup and then click Flatbed or Transparency. You can choose the type of document you're scanning, whether to scale it, where the scanned images are stored, the file type for the scanned images, and whether to perform image correction. Click Overview. The scanner does a preliminary scan and shows you what's on the scanner's bed. Select the part of the image you want to scan and click Scan.
If you want to set Image Capture to open automatically when you press a button on your scanner, click the Options button in your scanner's window.
And I have printed over 600 pages on the starter cartridge so far...it is supposed to go to 1000. -
I got it for about a week, so I do not know if it will breakdown prematurely (as complained by another user). The main machine itself is very nice & compact and the print quality is very good. But the designer had totally goofed up the detail design by : (1) putting the on/off switch all the way to the back of the machine where it is very hard to reach (turn on/off). (2)Although the main machine looks small & very compact, but the power block sticks way out from the back of the machine with long plugs (for power cord & USB cord) further projecting out from the back...this requires a lot of space on the back & totally ruin the original compact foot-print (i.e. you need to put the machine on a very deep shelf so as to leave enough space on the back for the power block & projecting power cord).

Since I have Photoshop Elements already scanning did not raise the ugly head of requiring a third party program.
Kuberdevta is correct - won't scan on Mac without spending more money. Also correct is the toner saver does not work with Mac.
I wonder if his is still printing.
