"DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!" on by Danga425
Pros: Fast, decent quality faxes and prints, easy set up.
Cons: Misrepresentative marketing, NOT wireless compatible, terrible support.
Summary: I bought this multifunction machine for telecommuting from home. There are other models by other manufacturers significantly less expensive with comparable quality, but few that market themselves as compatible with wireless networking. I specifically bought this expensive machine for that feature.
Unfortunately, to set up or add to an existing wireless network, an optional proprietary part (SCX-00LA) needs to be purchased and installed. What Samsung doesn't tell you, however, is that the SCX-00LA is not available in the United States, there is no timeline for its release. The overly expensive machine you bought specifically for that one feature is now an expensive paperweight one room over from the desktop. (After tripping over the 16' + 10' foot USB 2.0 extension cord, and ripping the USB port from my $3,000.00 desktop, I decided not to chance it with the 26' USB cord running through the house again.)
Samsung support was completely unhelpful (one condescending schlub actually told me that this machine is not marketed as wireless compatible in the US (despite Samsung's own website)) and it took two full weeks to ascertain the correct status of the SCX-00LA and its unavailability. Samsung's final response? Marketing people are working on it. Send it back to the reseller (too late and the packaging is gone.) Sorry.
In short, the 4720-F is a decent machine with decent fax and print quality and is easily set up, but it doesn't deliver what it promises. Samsung support is misrepresentative, condescending, and completely worthless (even to merely get information about the unavailable part) and I've ended up with a very expensive paperweight. I'll never buy Samsung again, and I suggest you don't chance it with this model.

this review is awful. It gives the product a "terrible" rating based on the fact that the machine "does not deliver what it promises" and then goes on to say that the Samsung website advertises it as a wireless capable product. It does not (you only need to go to the website to confirm it). The website says it is network ready (and so does the cnet review). Clearly this user does not know the difference between network ready and wireless network ready. Posting a review with such a dumb mistake is misleading and makes it difficult for people like me, who are trying to make an informed purchase.

The NIC card is available and the memory upgrade uses standard DIMM. If you trip over your USB cable and rip out your USB slot in your computer it's your own fault, not the product's. The product didn't improperly run the cable. Danga425's user opinion of rating this product "Poor" and "Don't buy this product" is a reflection of an end-user's anger, cynicism, and blaming the product, over his own "Poor" product research before the purchase. Practically every product advertisement or specification I've ever read has incorrect and misleading information. Remember, "Buyer Beware?" My experience with this product has been excellent. I've placed nearly 50 units and haven't had one problem in the past year except on the very first unit I received. My experience with SAMSUNG Technical Support was very favorable. You get a live person in under one minute and the support center is based in the United States. In the unlikely event there is a problem that is not able to be solved via tech support, Samsung ships a replacement unit 2nd Day Air and you return the old unit in that box. The CD operator's guide is very good, much better than previous Samsung multifunction products and the newer version of the scan, print, OCR and email software, SmarThru 4 is good. The OCR slows down when reading long documents. During initial scanning software set up make sure that you uncheck the "enable prescan" function located under the "Settings" line, then look under "Scan Settings" in the bottom box. The unit will not scan with "Enable Prescan" selected. That was the only problem I first encountered and it did take a joint effort with the Samsung Tech, Ronel B.,(Who by-the-way is a first class, easy to talk with, experienced technician) to figure out something so simple. Guess I should have read the CD operator's guide before so eagerly trying to use the product. So, therefore, I shouldn't have been so hard on Danga425, since I've made the very same mistakes (Sorry Danga425). Overall, I really like the product. It makes great color & monochrome scans, fast multiprint copies and print speed, some neat features such as electronic sorting/collating, poster setting (where you can make some really large black & white posters.) And you can make multiple copies on one sheet of paper or make a copy of an ID card, flip it over, and it will place the back side of the ID right next to the front side on the resulting copy. All in one step! The cost of ownership (post-purchase consumables and supply items) are significantly less than the other competitive models. The Samsung SCX4720 is the best price and best performer in its class. This is my opinion and I've been in the imaging business for over 27 years, field experienced, and technically trained by many manufacturer product technical schools. Signed: SS

I realize the Samsung part required for wireless network is not available, but I would think that a simple wireless USB print server or (since the unit comes with an ethernet port) an inexpensive wireless router would provide wireless functionality for this unit.
