"Worked fine until first toner replacement"

Pros

Overall this works great, prints great, no paper jams or other issues. Seems to go through ink quite slowly. If not for the one problem (pretty major), I would give it full marks

Cons

The first starter toner cartridge lasted a long, long time, but by the time we had to replace it, it was well out of warranty. That's when we realized that it wouldn't accept Samsung brand replacement toner cartridges.

Summary

Got no help from Samsung, so found a really good youtube that showed you how to refill your toner cartridge. Took the toner out of the new cartridge that isn't printing and put it in the starter toner cartridge that is near empty but still prints. So now the ... Read full review

"Works well mechanically - good quality scan and print"

Pros

Prints and faxes welll. I am able to scan documents into my computer.

Cons

The buttons on the machine that should allow me to fax, scan or copy without using the computer do not work properly. Replaced by customer support but same problem, apparently a firmware or software problem.

Summary

This seems to be either a firmware or software problem. You can reset the 4826 and the buttons will then work for a cycle or so before going back to not working. Interestingly, when you reset it, the buttons work, but I am unable to get it to fax manually. So, I only activate the 4826 from the computer and have can scan or manually fax (We have a complicated phone system and I have to use a Konex device that patches into the headset cord to activate faxing.) I actually cannot use it as a copier except by the clunky method of scanning then printing. Customer support agreed it was not working properly, but the replacement they sent me works exactly the same way.

The software is at best so-so in terms of usefulness and compatibility. Earlier versions of Smart-thru-Office crashed. The current one seems to work ok for the limited use (almost exclusively scanning) that I make of it. I am using a modern computer (Windows core i5 CPU 3.33 gigahz) but with Windows XP and current updates (university policy as to operating system) with system wide McAfee security.

Would not buy again. The Brother multifunction (MFC 7820N) I have at home cost about the same and does not have these compatibility/functionality problems.

fast printing, fast scanning, multi-functional, fax to email, scan to email, easy control panel, great web control page, lan printing. price

I wish it had a scan to FTP. But dont know how many products in this price range have that option.

Summary

I have being using computers for 30 years and I never being so happy with a peripheral. This thing seems top do it all, and do it well. Surprise to see a fax to email, so basically you can set it to send you a pdf when you get a fax, so waste of paper and toner. The first tones does not come fully loaded, so you will have to buy a toner soon. I can assure you, if you buy this printer , you will be a very happy camper. great samsung product.
