Set-up is very easy,
Multi-function (Copy, scan, print and fax),
Cheap 3rd party ink,
Ink cartridges very easy to setup.
Only complaint I have is the scan could have been darker.

I have been using the MFC-J425W for a week now and I have to say I am impressed. I am coming from a plain printer, that was a few years old, but I started online classes and needed to print, scan and sometimes fax. The MFC-J425W is a very good price for what it does, especially since it has Wi-Fi. I kind of thought that I was making a mistake by not going with a more expensive model, but so far it works great.
When I took it out of the box I had to unwrap everything and put the ink in. The model comes with the ink you need, which is a black, blue, yellow , and a magenta. The ink was very easy to put in. The door to get to the ink compartment is right in the front of the machine, so it's very convenient. I will report back on how long the ink lasts. One of the main reasons I went with this particular model was the dimensions. I did not want a huge clunky looking printer I couldn't fit in my entertainment center. I am very happy with the look of it. It's not huge and out of place.
The set-up is very easy, if you follow the instructions. My computer didn't have the drivers for the MFC-J425W so I put the cd into my laptop and installed the software. They have a couple extra things you can install but I just did the basic software. They walk you thru basic settings like changing the time and date, configuring Wi-Fi. The MFC-J425W connected with the Wi-Fi pretty quickly.
I was reading in the comments that someone had a problem with the fax machine. This was the first thing I wanted to try. In the manual it says that if you have VoIP, make sure you change the settings, if not leave it the way it is. I don't use VoIP, I have Comcast, so I plugged the phone jack in and did a test fax to the Brother company to send in the registration. It did not work the first time but I quickly figured out I had the phone line plugged into the wrong jack. It worked after I changed it. I don't see myself using the fax, but I like that it's there just in case.
My favorite feature is the scanner. You can scan a piece of paper to go right to email or have it go to a file on your computer (it went to the computer the software is installed on). I didn't have my laptop running when I tried it the first time so I wasn't able to choose email or file. So I turned my laptop on and I picked scan to email. My email application came right up with the scanned attachment already in it. The only thing I had to add was the destination email and subject, the attachment was in a .pdf format, I was impressed.
The only complaint I have is the scan could have been darker. It was a little bit light. I was able to darken it using another program so I'm sure others will figure out the same. There might even be a setting to change that but I didn't find it yet. I am in a class where the teacher wants us to show our work and email her a Word doc file, I was able to use the scanner to do that with no problems.
I was a little worried when it came to printing on Wi-Fi. I didn't know if it would take longer since it had to go thru the router or if it would be slower if there were a couple people online. I didn't have any issues with the speed. The printer I was using before was slower and it was hooked directly to the computer. Another cool feature is the fact that I can print directly from my iPhone 5 and my iPad. So, so, so, so cool!! I didn't even have to set anything up, just hit print on the iPhone 5/iPad, and select the MFC-J425W from the list, select the numbers of copies and that's it. As long as your all on the same network then you'll be fine.
So I am very pleased with all the features, but time will tell if this machine will go the distance. Lastly for best deal I suggest check at: www.printerreviewsbuy.com/brother-mfcj425w-best-deal
