Pros Print quality is good
Scan function is great
WiFi feature is really great
Amazingly easy to set up
Cons Print speed is rather slow
Summary I am extremely pleased with this product. I am a freelance writer working from home, and I don't have to print large-scale jobs. This machine fits my needs perfectly. It is small and compact, fitting nicely into a small space and folding up when not in use so that nothing sticks out. (This is important not only because of space considerations, but also so that my cats don't decide to lie down on a feeder or output tray and possibly break it.)
The cartridges are easy to change, and not overly expensive compared with those of other printers. The print quality is good. The print speed is rather slow, so the machine would not be appropriate for someone who regularly prints large-scale jobs.
The copying function is similar in all respects to the printing function.
The scan function is great! It creates PDFs of single- or multiple-page documents and gives you the option of where to file them or just saves them in a date-specific desktop file of scans.
I have not had occasion to use the fax function. (The ease of scanning documents into PDFs and sending them via email pretty much makes faxing unnecessary.)
The one thing I would change is that print jobs arrive in the output tray in opposite-page order. This means that I have to remember to specify that I want the document printed back-to-front, or be faced with the tedium of reversing the pages after printing. For some reason I can't seem to make this the default setting.
There's a neat desktop icon that can be expanded to show separate icons for each function. Unfortunately, if the option of showing the single icon to avoid desktop clutter is used, that icon has a tendency to disappear, and I can't seem to get it back without rebooting. I'm not sure if that is a problem with the Canon machine or of Windows 7.
All in all, I highly recommend this machine as an economical and efficient buy for a small home office.

Pros Street Price - often in the upper $60's
Reliable IF handled respectfully
Dual paper inputs
Cons OEM ink costs - ugh!
Color ink usage not stingy
Depth of unit precludes bookshelf placement
Summary Canon again produces a reliable multifunction printer with enough features to provide good value for the SOHO user. With two paper inputs, copy, fax and scan options and great software, users office users should be happy with the output. A simple front panel interface makes on-the-fly changes easy. While not super complicated to setup in WiFi mode, users running security on their routers will need to pay heed to the alternate instructions. As an OFFICE (not photo) printer it does the job well.
As always with Canon, keeping the printer in ink remains somewhat expensive. I own two other Canon photo printers that produced great photos with ridiculous than merely unreasonable ink cartridge costs.
Whether they use a little or a lot of ink per page, Canon OEM ink is expensive. Because I love Canon quality and reliability (my S820 is 9-10 years old), I shop mightily for deals on Canon ink.
Other than that, this printer lives up to its price point and will serve the Canon line well.
Pros Cheap. Prints decent.
Cons Canon, like most others, makes the money from the hideously overpriced ink. This printer goes through ink like a fire hose. The most frustrating networking experience I have ever had, it is the farthest thing from plug and play if you have more than 1 pc
Summary Will never buy another Canon product unless held at gun point.
Pros Easy setup and networking, all-in-one (print, scan, fax), low cost, medium footprint, attractive appearance
Cons Slow set-up for printing and scanning, expensive ink cartridges
Summary I purchased this device after reading the cnet review and I have not been disappointed. The installation and network setup was easy and the print, scan, and fax quality are very good for a home use device. I have not used it for photo printing, so I cannot comment on that capability. The software and drivers work very well and I was very impressed with the way it manages the sharing of a single phone line with a voice telephone. I recommend this device for anyone that needs an all-in-one device for moderate home use.
Pros wireless printing
Cons runs out of ink quickly
cannot use scanner if out of any ink
poor quality of pictures
Summary at first it looked a wonderful product. Obviously, since the product is new, I was not able to research it very well. I wish there would be a way to return the product to BBuy
