Pros Attractive, help-desk was relatively easy to reach
Cons Cannot share fax/phone line effectively, washed out printing
Summary There is a major issue with this printer sharing the phone line for faxes. If you want the printer hooked up to your phone line so you can send faxes, and even if you set it so that it won't pick up unless the phone rings a certain number of times (usually beyond what it takes before your answering service/machine picks up), it still continually monitors the phone line. During random calls, in the middle of the call, the fax tone will start blaring in your ear, and even if you try to hit the stop/reset button or even the on/off button, it won't respond unless you trudge through the menu and find the location where it says to cancel the fax, and you have to go through 3 menus to get there. I asked Canon about this and they say it is a flaw with the printer, and that it sometimes thinks women's voices are fax tones and will randomly barge in and try to receive a fax. There is no fix for this. The only option is to disconnect it from the phone jack and plug it into the jack only when you want to send/receive a fax. Ricidculous.
And by the way, the printing is washed-out and the blacks aren't black. My 5 year-old HP did better than this by far. It's going back today.
Pros Great Quality
Cons Can't Refill Ink without warning message
Summary I have always had Canon Printers and the quality was great. The best part was the individual ink cartridges so you could replace just the color that was empty and not the whole color cartridge like other printers. Well my old canon printer died and I bought a new Pixma MX700. The printer is great until it came time to refill the ink. When my magenta ink became low I went to the store to replace it but to my suprise had to buy all 3 color cartridges in a pack. (Can't buy single color to my knowledge). Then I tried to refill the black cartridge and found out that even though it is full, it still shows on the printer as being empty. I Know it's full cause I can see it. So now I have to ignore the message every time it comes up that the black is low.
The average user will probably spend more on the ink in the first year alone than the price of the printer cost.
I will still refill my inks and probably disable the annoying messages. Thanks Canon for this bad taste in my mouth.
Pros Nice machine, easy to hook to network and use
Cons Has a built in ink usage montior, when machine thinks waste ink pad is full, printer shuts down. You have to take unit to their service center and pay to have it reset.
Summary The ink monitoring system also does not actually measure ink tank level, if you refill the ink tank, the printer still show ink low or empty. You have to purchase their ink tanks to reset the ink monitor system. I contacted Canon support about the waste inkpad issue, they would not tell me how much ink I could use before the printer quits, or a reset procedure. They only give this information to their service centers; I am returning this unit to the store where I purchased it. I am glad that I took the time to read the complete users manual when I brought this unit home. You can find this information in the trouble shooting section of the manual.

Pros Easy network setup, very easy to use. All features work great.
Cons No duplex on scanner.
Summary 9 out of 10 only because it does not have duplex. Don't believe the negative hype!!! I put some serious research time into buying my new multifuntion printer. I wanted something that was easy to use, that worked well as both a printer and a scanner, and something that would easily send the occasional fax. I used to buy only HP, but I have been extremely disappointed with the last few HP purchases.
I almost did not get this printer because of the negative feedback. I decided to take a look at the negative feedback and see if they were legit. All negative feedback has to do with the fax machine picking up too quickly and messing with normal phone calls. I figured that all those people that were complaining probably had something set wrong. I decided to buy the printer and boy am I glad that I did!!!!. If the fax is set to fax priority(primarily used for fax), chances are it will pick up during normal calls. As soon as I set it to voice priority, I have had no problems with it picking up on normal calls.
The network setup and install is easy and works beautifully. I have had issues with HP network printers acting hokey in the past. Not the Canon. Once you install the printer drivers on the computers on the network, you can send scans to any computer on the network from the scanner. It is slick and painless.
Bottom line, this is the best bang for the buck on the market. You don't have to sacrifice performance for functionality.
Pros Seems to have everything but not sure
Cons Paper Jams, Bad Menu, Can't get fax to work
Summary In January of 2008 this was a high rated all in one by Cnet and not too bad a rating by users. Since then, user ratings have plunged on this and rightly so. This device is so prone to jamming and despite dozens of attempts, I cannot get the fax to work and that has to be because the documentation is bad and the menu is very unintuitive. Finally, the ink cartridges run out prematurely, still lots of ink left but sensor says ink is out. Have to buy new cartridge replacing a cartridge half full...this has happened twice in the past month.
