Pros Easy to use
Cons After two years the quality of the print was horrible. Had dark streaks in the print. I tried everything to fix the problem.
Summary Disappointed with the lack of help from Dell to fix the problem. If it is a disposable product that can't be fixed let the consumer know
Pros It can function as a copier.
Cons It drinks ink like an extremely thirsty person in the Sahara.
After 3 years it suddenly failed to take on new color ink and would not print the top half dozen lines or so of material. Our previous Dell printer worked fine for much longer than that.
Pros It Prints at good quality
easy to use
Cons uses up ink quicker than most printers
Summary The Dell Photo 926 is an exeptional printer. i havent had any problems, except the ink price. it totaled at about $40 for 2 ink tanks (high capacity)!
But, really, the print quality is good, and ill be using the photos feature with my camera.
Pros Once it successfully prints a page of text it prints ok and it does it fast.
Its a shiny object that looks like it should work.
Cons Every time a job is sent to the printer, it decides to print 2 pages of print head alignment.(sucking more ink needlessly)
The scanner doesn't get used much, but seems to work on small photos ok.
Photos always come out banded.
Summary This deceptive shiny object of a printer was designed hastily and not well engineered.
It is an inkjet and therefore is a money pit (both time, money, ink, and paper are wasted).
People assume that buying brand name accessories that match their computer brand name is a good thing to do for compatibility. Unfortunately, they are very mistaken and need to look at the requirements of the accessory (peripheral) to ensure things will work.
This cheap printer and others like it are not suitable for anyone's use, period!
I do NOT recommend low end inkjets for any reason. (avoid Canon unless you print pictures EVERYDAY and do a spreadsheet to keep track of the ink levels if you have the stomach)
Color lasers are pretty darn cheap these days and if you don't need color save yourselves by buying a monochrome laser. (eBay has tons of refurbished HP laserjet 5's that will last with minimal maintenance, genuine HP toner is $80 and worth every penny for over a THOUSAND pages!)
Pros When it prints in black, it PRINTS. The page will be soaked through with ink.
Cons I bought a new ink cartridge today for this printer. $17. I printed one 8-page article. Afterward, the printer status informed me that 150 pages remain on this ink cartridge. One benefit of this printer is that those estimates are very accurate.
Summary It is unacceptable for a printer and ink cartridge in 2009 to get 158 pages to a $17-dollar cartridge. Additionally, I removed the color cartridge because the device refused to print with an empty cartridge. Now, every time I print a page, I am prompted with a window informing me there's a MISSING INK CARTRIDGE. Yes. I KNOW. I TOOK IT OUT. Even more additionally, Dell has a corporate partnership with Staples. Therefore, the ONLY places you can obtain replacement cartridges are online through Dell's web site or at Staples. These practices are utterly unacceptable in a world in which consumers have as many choices as we do. If Dell wants to retain its printer-buying customers who mistakenly wound up with this doozy, it would do well to refund them, or replace it with something more ink-efficient.
