I have had HP, Brother and Canon ink jets. All printers I have owned have provided acceptable image quality and this device is exceptional. It is also quite fast. The two features which really set this apart form my previous Canon MP830 multi function are the duplexing capability and the fabulous touch screen which has a well thought out and intuitive interface. This is especially helpful on a multi function device since the screen only presents choices relavent to the operation you are doing. It allows for a much cleaner look without all kinds of buttons. It is also a more compact size which is nice. The 6 colors allow for more accurate color output but may require buying additional ink cartridges. I love the wi fi and the fact that the family can all easily print, scan or fax wirelessly without requiring a shared printer. The software for scanning and faxing seems well designed and easy to use. I like being able to easily scan directly to a flash drive. I typically edit and print photos out of Photoshop so I am unable to comment on the direct printing and cropping features from a flash card but will update if I ever do a comparison.
It is hard to find very much negative to write of. My previous Canon had both a paper drawer and an open stack feeder. It was nice having two sources for loading two different types of paper. The Artisan software seemed to take a long time to install compared to other drivers I have used but no big deal. I am not sure what other companies currently offer but the Epson warranty is for two years as long as you register it which gives me confidence. Althougth the printers showed up as installed on our computers, I initially did not see any of the computers listed on the Epson's scanning screen when I installed the drivers but they all showed up once I restarted them. I thought this could have been explained in the instructions or on the Epson support site. Maybe I missed it. The Epson Atrisan810 has so far exceeded my expectations and I recommend it.

"This is an excellent printer"

4.5 stars  | on by rcal

Pros

It excellent because 1) Duplex printer works as advertised 2) Excellent color photos. 3) Can print from my iPhone. 4) Other wireless features work with just a little effort.

Cons

1) Occasional paper jams. 2) Ink can get a little expensive if you print a lot. It depends what business your in! Remember, it's not a laser printer.

Summary

Overall, this is a very good printer. I have had it 3 years and it is as good as any printer that I have owned! This includes HP, Apple, Cannon etc.

"Great at first; disappointing and expensive over time."

Don't get one if you want it to last a couple of years. I got one, and then another a few months later because I liked the first so much (it worked with my old mac running OS 9.7!) When one of them died 13 months after I got it (ink jets plugged up) they told me the "2-year warranty" as described on the box was only good if you sent in the Spam card to register it. I had done that for the other, and when it died after 20 months, they dispatched a replacement right away. It didn't work. Neither did the replacement for that. Neither did the replacement for that. I took a hiatus, and now I've tried to get the newest replacement to work, and it won't work either. And they won't send me another; but I'm not sure I want it anyhow. I've spent about 40 hours troubleshooting, and I have no working printer now.
The print quality was good. The ink went fast and was expensive.
