Pros I've owned 4 HP printers and loved them all.
Cons If a colored ink cartridge runs out, don't expect to keep using your black ink. If you do not keep all of your inks full, the printer will not allow you to print - even in black!
Summary I have never heard a machine go through so much adjustments. It whirls and whines and goes on and on with cartridge alignments. It may print one sheet fast, but then stops and adjusts itself over and over again. Forget the $250 I paid for this piece of junk, I want all the lost time back for waiting on this rip-off to start printing.
Pros Couldn't find any.
Cons First one wouldn't work at all, second and third made horrible scans.
Summary I went through three machines. The first thought the paper tray was out (it wasn't) and wouldn't go beyond that. The second and third made incredibly bad scans. As the test I used a photograph I'd scanned with my old HP 2110 model -- not a great scan but reasonable. The C5180 scanned it with jagged edges around everything, as well as a halo. I went through more than a week of emails back and forth with HP to find out what was wrong, and they finally concluded that the machine didn't work. (I tried telephone before this, but the HP representatives barely spoke English, did not know what they were doing, and INSISTED on making me listen to minutes of promotional spiel before they would "help" me with my problems -- in other words, they have the worst possible telephone service imaginable.) I took the machine back to the store rather than go through HP's song-and-dance, and got a third machine. It's scan was just as bad. I tried scanning a different (printed not developed) sort of photo, which had also been scanned successfully on the old machine. The result looked like a checkerboard, even when viewed at a 2x4-inch size on the monitor. Did I tell you that I did all these scans at 1200 resolution? In addition, these scans took two minutes to do! I can't see how this product got out of the factory. And I can't see why anyone would want to subject themselves to HP!
Pros Cheap. Has ethernet port.
Cons Extremely poor print quality.
Summary After years of using laserjet printers, I wanted something lightweight and easy to use. I figured inkjet printing must have come a long way in the last 5 - 7 years, so I gave this model HP a try. Boy was I disappointed! I have not been able to print a single page without smeared ink or print. It makes my letters look totally cheap and unprofessional. Photo printing is not any better. Can't wait to box the POS up and take it back to the store. Yuck.
Pros Nice print quality
Cons Any hit of mositure and inks smear!
Summary I purchased this for small home based office, and sorry I did. I now have to buy another printer where ink does not run on invoices, checks, proposals, etc. I went off of all the user ratings, but everyone missed on the ink problem. Used all HP cartridges and high quality papers. Also changed printer settings to no avail.
Pros Easy network setup, easy to operate, great print quality. Set up was simple ans networking was a breeze!!! Would recommend to everyone!
Cons It doesn't hold a large amount of paper.
