Pros Quiet Printer and easy to install
Cons Uses an excessive amount of ink. Many paper jams with no way of accessing the jam. Spits paper out like a continous confetti trail for a single page print job. Has a hard time recognizing paper in the paper tray.
Summary After 3 months of ownership, I am giving the printer away for free. I think that this may bring me bad Karma as it probably should go straight to the trash can. I can not sell it to anyone knowing how poor it perfprms. I am going back to a trusted name in printers. I have purchased a trusted printer, Canon, I have learned a valuable lesson not to buy a Lexmark again
Pros I returned it after 2 days so It wouldn't be fair to do an indepth review. But it seems that it is designed to be faily simple to use. You can copy without the PC being on, and set up was fairly easy.
Cons The print speed seemed very slow
We bought this printer as opposed to a slightly cheaper one because it had an ADF. With the ADF being too sensitive to be functional, there was no point. Spoke to Lexmark, they have a bulletin out on the ADF.
Summary I think if you want an all in one, and aren't going to be using an ADF much, and don't mind slower print speeds, this might be ok for you. Having read so many reviews my brain is addled, I see many people comment on the noise factor. I found this printer to be fairly quiet, but then I printed extremely little in the 2 days I had it. (Too basy grappling with the ADF!) If you are reading this because you are battling with the ADF and need help: push the paper forward SLOWLY stop the instant you hear the beep. Then push start to scan. That may or may not sort your problem out.
Pros prints well, color setting is default
Cons no real online support like they advertise. fax does not work well with a phone not connected to the back of the unit. HP we had did. It would monitor the line & pick up if it noticed the screech, Lexmark does not, even after tweeking the # of rings.
Summary here is my live chat record:
Please wait for the next available operator.
[tim mccarthy] s405 auto doc feeder (adf) does not work. updated software, still not working
[tim mccarthy] how long to wait?
[tim mccarthy] is any one out there?
[tim mccarthy] I guess this is a "dead chat" line
[tim mccarthy] If this is your idea of a live chat, I should not have bought this s405. I paid more for an all-in-one for the doc feeder. It doesn't work, and there is no support as advertised. I guess I copy this log and paste it on C/NET.
20 mins later they still had not started with any support.

Pros Easy Set Up, fast prints, scans
Cons After about one month the auto doc feeder will start to jam. Lexmark replaced my first unit and it happened again after 2 weeks. There is no way to open the feeder to unjam other than just ripping the doc back out. Now I need to try for a refund.
Summary If your looking to use the auto doc feeder move on to a better product. If you aren't then why buy this one anyway. Office Depot has one review with 5 stars on it, but that may have something to do with not publishing mine.

Pros the ink just like water and it flew away by itself, keep updating and keep wasting time to reset it.
Cons if you dont need the scan and photos, go for a laser. if you need them, go with other brand.
Summary look at all the feedback, and you dont believe it. fine, go ahead and come back and write another 0.5 star review. the only reason for me to buy it, coz it on special for $79. i should go with the laser one cost 100$ but live 50 times longer.
