Pros Great Price for Wireless that doesn't work
Cons No Drivers for MAC OS X Leopard
Summary Once I worked out all the initial bugs, including it's inability to hold a wireless configuration, and hooking up an Ethernet cable, I almost fell in love with this printer. It was lots of bang for a little price. *******But Beware*******
I just put Leopard OS X on my IMAC, and find out that there are not any drivers for this printer at lexmark...seems as if it is the only printer series they have that is driverless. It took me two days of lousy tech support to finally get them to admit this, after telling me numerous times that the problem was a "wireless" connection issue (see above connection). They refused to answer questions directly, wouldn't let me speak to a manager, until I demanded my way up the ladder. It took 2 days and 10 phone calls (6 hours) to finally get someone who would give me a number here in the states to contact. They promised contact within two hours, which I'm now waiting for at 3 hours.
I was definitely a fan and recommended this printer to others....for which I'll now apologize. Time to go shopping again, and donate this beast to charity with additional apologies. If anyone from Lexmark decides to read this review....get off your can, support your products...AND BRING YOUR SUPPORT BACK ONSHORE
Pros Easy set up and great feature set.
Cons Software integration with wireless could be better.
Summary I recently purchased an HP Officejet L7780 for $500. It stunk and I said why in a review of it on CNet.
Anyway, I went looking for a similar set of features and found this gem at nearly 60% of the price.
Though the Cnet reviewer found the printing to be a little slow (and it is slower than the HP), the speed is still very good. I found the print quality to be very satisfactory as well.
Still, what sets this multi-function apart from the HP is that is does all of its functions as you desire. I purchased the optional second tray. I can load whatever media I want in tray one and direct whichever function I want to dray from that tray. Tray two is limited to paper only media, but I think you'll find this to be not a problem at all since again, you can direct whatever function you want to draw from that tray.
A few other niceties: There is a built in bypass tray, built in wireless, easy loading print cartridges (only takes two) and an upward, adjusting cover on the flatbed copy surface that allows for thick items like books.
This is a well thought out machine of good quality and solid performance. And all at a fantastic price. Lexmark beat the pants of off an HP. Can you believe it?
"Nice machine"on by Rob Kish
Pros Wireless; nice output; good scanning
Cons Haven't really found any yet
Summary We've had this machine for about 2 months. We really only wanted a color printer for some occasion color printing. Set up was pretty easy and when we did have to contact Lexmark support, they were great, knowledgeable, patient and friendly and were able to solve all of our issues. We use it on completely mixed wireless network (Macs, Vista machines, XP machines) and no problem. Good scanner but if you're setup wirelessly, you have to use the printer's menu rather than the computer's menu. If you connect via USB, we were told you could access the scan functions from the computer. We connected the printer to a wireless router but you can also eliminate the router for wireless connectivity but was told my Lexmark support, using the router is more stable with fewer problems. It has good, fast scanning ability and we're pleased with the color output. We don't use the fax function so I can't comment on that. The ADF works well and the duplex printing is a nice option to have. For the price, it's a nice machine
Pros great paper weight
Cons prints a page in 5 mins in black text, software freezes, not compatible with vista
Summary I used to consider myself a happy lexmark customer, this would have been my 2nd printer. So i saw this one for a good price and thought it would be nice and convenient to have wireless printing. NOTHING was convenient about this printer. i contacted lexmark's "amazing" tech support 10 times and actually was able to talk to someone 5 times, and finally they gave up and said there is nothing they can do. needless to say i was extremely angry, as i was only able to print 2 small word documents. the tech support tried to blame my computer, but i highly doubt that is the case as i have a brand new hp pavillion 6500t running vista. i had bought this machine specifically for the wireless and supposed "vista compatibility". well lets just say both left something to be desired. even when i had the printer connected by usb it rarely, if ever printed and was ridiculously slow. i would not recommend this to my worst enemy. i am proficient in computers and this was the biggest piece of crap i have ever seen, lexmark should be ashamed of themselves for such a product and their sub-par technical support.
Pros Great concept of the all in one system. The one feature I do love is the photocopying. It's very easy as long as the paper doesn't jam.
Cons I have never been so tempted to throwanything off my 2nd story balcony as I have with this piece of garbage. I've been putting up with it for years now and was finally driven to this review in order to get some sense of justice. Thankfully we didn't hav
Summary This printer is a couple of years old nowso if anyone offers to give you a used one for free - JUST SAY NO! Whatever you do - don't pay for it!
