A bad deal, and a worse headache.
Pros: easy to use
Cons: All music is lost if the hard drive is wiped or a new one is used. Music doesn't upload smoothly in some cases.

Latest version: Too slow, seems broken.
Pros: I've loved iTunes for a long time, it's freindly and it's a Mac product, which seems to make it better.
Cons: The latest version suffers greatly from slow startup. It may be the latest version, but it's so slow, it must be broken.

itunes controls the format, It is limited to MPEG4 format
Pros: If you have a MPEG4 devise it works good.
Cons: Cannot convert to different format.
To my surprise the song have a protection on them.
I can not convert the songs THAT I PURCHASED to any other format. The question I have is. If I own the songs why is itunes telling me what device I can play then on?
I feel like I have been taken. The songs cost .99 cents each. I can not use the music in anything except my computer.I contacted customer service and was told that the songs are in fact only limited to MPEG4 devices. This is wrong. I own the songs. If you are planning to use the music on anthing other then MPEG4 device stay away from this service.

Still the Best Music Player, Now With Podcast Support
Pros: Great support for burning CDs, podcasting, and iPods, best music store, user-friendly, great song info options (with fantastic info-fetching DB) and file support, good visualizer (and lyric-finding)
Cons: Podcast scheduling and settings could be more advanced, plug-in and skin support would be nice, more audiobooks in music store and more stores would make iTunes near-perfect

Software Review of iTunes 4.9 and iPod Mini Software 1.4
06.28.2005 (about 10:15 to 11:30 AM EST)
I have just updated my iPod Mini and iTunes software to new versions and am excited about the new podcasting features being included. I have been using podcasts for a long time, but it is a hassle to use a separate program. The new iTunes has a very convenient podcast feature. The podcast directory feature is built into the Music Store, and it is running sluggishly, probably because many people are on checking it out like me. I have now subscribed to all my podcasts and, after only 20 minutes of importing lists and adding to my playlists (I have alot of podcasts and I found some more on iTunes, some great news ones!), my last podcasts are being downloaded. People were saying that since Apple picked all the podcasts to be included, the choices would be limited, but I have found some podcasts that have never even existed! Better yet, there are less unreliable and junky ones, cheers to Steve Jobs! Now on to my iPod and its software update (the time is about 10:46), which is supposed to make it more podcast-friendly. Wow, the iPod podcast feature is also really cool and I have now officially caught up on all of my 28 podcasts (6 of them not working because of, I guess, the publisher has a broken link and the iTunes podcast directory is just a newborn). For the podcasts on the iPod, iTunes creates a kind-of super-smart playlist that keeps the podcasts seperate from ordinary songs (kind of like it does on iTunes itself, except less advanced) to store all the scheduled downloads of podcasts. As of now (11:16) I have not tried the podcasting feature on my iPod, yet. Okay, the time is 11:23 and I have finished all my podcast work on the computer, now for my final job: checking (well, listening to) all my hard work on my iPod!

Say Goodbye to Your RAM
Pros: Easy to use interface
Cons: Memory hog causes skipping/stuttering playback
The result? All of your music files instantly become horribly annoying to listen to, as you get about 1/2 seconds worth of music before a brief pause, then another 1/2 second and pause, and so on. And since your memory's gone the way of the dodo, all of your other open apps stall out as well.
The only alternative is, unfortunately, to uninstall 4.9 and reinstall an earlier version if you happen to have one handy. This means you lose your library, playlists, and settings in order to restore normal service.
If you're a PC user, do yourself a favor and skip the 4.9 release. Maybe they'll get it right with version 5.0.

I just Love it
Pros: It is easy to choose music from, it also transfers music by copying and pasting into playlists or simply drag and drop. The playlists are easy to pick and to create, and the searcher it's helpful!
Cons: not that many radios online for it.
It's really easy to upgrade and to access to the library, store, playlists.
Features like the "25 most played" makes for me an easy way to listen to music that I like and I've been playing for a while.

Nice Update for iTunes
Pros: still easy to use, podcast support
Cons: wierd spot to subscribe to podcast
I instantly subscribed to two podcast of websites that I visit often. So far the new feature is pretty nice. I see why people like podcast too.
iTunes does a good job of handling podcast along with your other music. The only downside is that they consider subscribing to a podcast 'Advanced.' They should have made a podcast menu or something.

Great for music; Needs more work on burning audiobooks
Pros: Great for music: simple, straight forward, etc.

So quick, so intuitive, so fun!
Pros: Absolutely awesome music store, also, an amazing searching capability, as well as a fantastic sorting, and a very clean and crisp interface.
Cons: I would like to see more built in flexibility in retrieving artwork, and burning more than the set number of times
The search feature, I’d say the second best thing in iTunes. I love that fact that you can see results as you type, instead of typing, then waiting for everything to be sorted.
The Best feature is defiantly the Music Store. So many songs, so many choices, it seems almost endless; almost anything you could want is there for the buying. The speed at which the transfers happen are awesome, not to mention the quality of the songs, which are even better!

Look elsewhere for a good music managment program
Pros: Attractive interface, speedy, easy to use for beginers
Cons: lacks almost any in depth features.
I have tried almost every music software out there, and I figured it was time to jump on the bandwagon and try iTunes, after all, everyone's doing it.. right? At first I was highly pleased by the attractive, clean interface, and the speed of the searching (an apple hallmark) and even the music store. Yes I didnt mind the music store personally, I know there are many complaints, but hey if you want to use a player other than an ipod, its easy to strip the drm and rencode, however you will lose audio quality, but you get what you pay for and itunes is free.
Now on to the cons. This is where iTunes loses ground to a more in depth solution like wmp 10.
1. First off there is no option to use more than stereo speakers. While music is only 2 channel, it would be nice to be able to at least listen to it in all my speakers even if it just duplicates the front channels. I paid for 5.1 speakers and a soundcard, i might as well get to use them.
2. Burning is a complete mess. I know that playlists are all the rage nowadays, but I dont use them, at all. I know I'm not the only one either, but for some reason apple assumes that you would never want to burn a cd, only a playlist, and as such there is no burn option when viewing music that isnt a playlist. What this means is if you want to burn a cd, you will have to creat a playlist with all the tracks from that cd, and then burn the playlist. Am I the only one that finds this mind bogglingly annoying?
3. iTunes does not look up album art for you automatically... you'd think this was a standard feature by now, especially with access to apples extensive music store but nope, you have to manually add art for each cd, im sorry but with 60+ gigs of music, i dont have time for that.
4. No advanced tag editing features. to edit track information you have to either click each field in the media library view and edit it one thing at a time, or highlight multiple tracks and hit "view track info" (one would think it would say "edit" but oh well) but for some reason even when using this option, the changes dont save outside of itunes, which brings me to my next point.
5. no folder monitoring. for some reason itunes assumes that all new music is going to come from ripping with itunes, or from their music store, if you get music any other way it will not appear in your library unless you manually scan for it (at which point all your tag changes from point #4 revert back to their original values) this also creates the problem of duplicate tracks. im not sure why itunes has such a problem with this, as i never encounter this in other media players. even when rescanning my library
6. itunes reorganzied and fractured my folder and directory structure, even after had explicitly told it not to reorganize anything.
7. songs purchased from the music store are only 128 bitrate
All in all the gripes i have with itunes far outweigh, its benefits. I'm sure if you have your ipod and 10 cds and you wanna be "cool" walking around campus, then itunes is perfect for you, but if you want a rich full featured, music managment program, you'll have to look elsewhere. My personal recomendation is windows media player 10.

Pleasantly surprised
Pros: Terrific interface with IPOD, very fast and easy conversion of CDs.
Cons: Some fiddling with MP3s on CDs to move them over.
Good with MP3's (use the properties window which has forms or boxes to touch up the tags) -- no need to fiddle with the file names and file paths. Not quite as smooth with MP3s you have on a CD --some fiddling required to move them into your library on a permanent basis.
May buy some titles from their site. But it was much better at organizing my music library than I expected.

Great, but once you try Windows Media Player 10, you'll leave this alone
Pros: Easy to use, nice automatic folder organization

Fast, easy to use.
Pros: Works with iPod, which is a damn good product if you only want MP3 support. Fast and easy to use. On-line shopping is painless.
Cons: Apple monopoly software. Doesn't play anything other than ancient MP3 and Apple AAC. Doesn't have "album artist" like Windows Media Player 9 and up has - it's really necessary. Strange non-standard GUI for Windows.

Very organized and extremely user friendly
Pros: iTunes is very easy to figure out. I now have it installed on my PC and my Mac. As far as I've noticed, iTunes works virtually the same on both computers. In fact, I share playlists between both networked computers. The music playlists are easy to set
Cons: You can't export a song from the dropdown menu (you have to click and drag the song from the playlist to the desktop).

Rhapsody is better
Pros: Having the largest selection of music, the layout is very nice. and pictures of everything. Being able to download albums all at once.
Cons: You have to pay to listen to the entire song,I mean don't get me wrong, I am used to that in music stores, but I am not going to pay 99 cents for a song that I only heard 30 seconds out of a six minute song. When their are other options. Also Takes awhile

Far superior to RealPlayer.
Pros: Sound quality very good, ease of use excellent. Music store well integrated with player. Raises interest in all of Apple's products.
Cons: No nudity.

Still mostly for Mac people
Pros: Decent interface. Reads in CD's and displays all the song names, artist, and album info...
Cons: Can't burn to regular MP3 player. CD's read in are in alternative format that requires changing them to MP3 to play. Most of their tunes are only mainstream stuff...very little underground music or TRULY altnerative bands. If you listen to stuff other tha

Nice interface, but worthless for all non-iPod players.
Pros: Convenient, fast way to download music. Decent selection of songs.
Cons: Proprietary AAC format is compatible only with overpriced, overhyped iPods. WinAmp is far superior for listening to internet radio and any music already on your computer.

Great Player, Music Orgonizer...but Resource Hungry
Pros: This is one great player and orgonizer.
Cons: It takes a while to start up, and hangs when switching between full mode and mini player.

Just the best...
Pros: It does it all.
Cons: I wish they offered the songs at 160bit AAC instead of 128. Besides that this is the only all-in-one music solution worth a damn.

Great Service, Lack of Artists
Pros: Speedy downloads, gift card purchases, seamless integration with iPod, album art printout for CD compilations
Cons: Still very limited variety of music. Would like to see much more soundtracks and possibly the integration of video game songs (from the unheard of artitst.)

Addictive! A MUST HAVE!

iTunes comes with pros and cons
Pros: Biggest music selection at over 700K songs. Easy and powerful search button, free download(s) of the week, music videos, movie trailers, and iMixes add to the best iTunes version. Player wise, party shuffle is awesome.
Cons: Can only transfer songs to iPod. Downloaded music is only in AAC format, which only works on iPods. Player needs more options.

It is possible to fix the skipping problem!
Pros: Just posted to let everyone know that it is possible to fix the skipping problem. Close Itunes and go to quicktime, go to quicktime preferences, choose sound out and switch from directsound to waveout. Close it out then load up itunes. Skip free!
Cons: With the skipping gone my only problem is the lack of a 'j' key like in winamp which brings up the search window. Instead you have to go and click over to it, which I feel could be worked on.

Cons: Needs more independent labels and artists

Great interface, file organization; bad iPod-centered onlne store

iTunes Rocks........Period
Pros: I have been blown away by how easy it is to use. I have iTunes on 4 different computers and it works perfect. The sound quality is always great, the once a week free download is a nice bonus. Why would you consider anything else?
Cons: I have always heard the great things about apple, so is it possible there could be a con? I guess it would be those that didn't buy an iPod when they bought a mp3 player. (Sorry guys)

The best!!!
Pros: Great selection, user created iMixes, easy to purchase and preview. Simple 99 cent/song price. Seriously, I won't lose sleep over paying about 10 cents more than some competitors. Support innovation!!!
Cons: Some partial albums. If I want a classic album, and the iTunes store only has some of the tracks, then I have to actually get up and go to the store like people did in the old days!

Good service and idea... but DRM...

One-of-a-kind and getting better.
Pros: Nothing comes close to matching the feature set and the simplicity of iTunes and the iPod. If anything iTunes needs more independed muzic labels. Maybe even open it up to individuals.
Cons: I agree with "skips like crazzzy!" With winXP iTunes skips, I think its because of systems resoures, the same reason the start-up chime crackles.

99 cent songs on iTunes offers 8-Track quality bit rate
Pros: The only thing positive about this application is the UI.
Cons: The bit rate offered by Apple's iTunes Music Store is the equivialant of 8-track or at best a cassette deck. Try playing purchased music on your home stereo or home theatre systems. The quality of the audio is horrible. Check out articles on Stereophile

Absolutely great service
Pros: Very easy to use. The chart lists and user playlists are absolutely great. The collection is great but could be better ... but I found that the same songs that I couldn't find here were not available elsewhere to download either.

Best Digital Jukebox for PC and Mac
Pros: $1 per song downloads, Streamlined interface, no learning curve (a definite plus for technophobes), FREE, rips CDs in MP3 or AAC, Party Mix, iMix in Music Store, FREE!!!
Cons: Only compatible with the oh-so-cool-but-too-damn-expen sive iPod and iPod mini, no option to convert AAC to MP3 (which would be nifty and speedy for making MP3 CDs from purchased songs and albums)

Cons: No-WMA Support - This isn't a con in my mind, I couldn't care less about windos media, but it is a limitation. You can't remove it from your taskbar and minimize to just the system tray. I always leave iTunes running, but don't want it to take up space
