Man was I irked when I finished downloading twenty some odd dollars worth of music from iTunes and tried to convert the selections to MP3's to use on my Rio Cali MP3 player. The files are locked leaving you only two options: burn to CD or transfer to Apple's iPod. I'm a die-hard Mac user, but was absolutely furious when I found out that I could not put this music that I purchased legally on a player that was not Apple brand. I figured out a time consuming way to do it after some experimentation, but I won't post that here or the thieves at Apple might block that too. Bottom line, Macs are great, iTunes is a flippin' ripoff unless you want to cave in and buy their brand of player. There are a ton of MP3 download sites out there that don't sell a deceiving product as Apple is doing with iTunes.

"A bad deal, and a worse headache."

Pros

easy to use

Cons

All music is lost if the hard drive is wiped or a new one is used. Music doesn't upload smoothly in some cases.

iTunes is essentially there to cheat people out of money. Avoid using an ipod/iTunes if possible. There are much cheaper alternatives that don't have such an inhibitive system. The computer with my itunes on it crashed, because the main hard drive wiped, taking my iTunes with it. Getting another brand of mp3 player would have been a much better choice.

"Latest version: Too slow, seems broken."

1 stars  | on by Gyro_Bot

Pros

I've loved iTunes for a long time, it's freindly and it's a Mac product, which seems to make it better.

Cons

The latest version suffers greatly from slow startup. It may be the latest version, but it's so slow, it must be broken.

Summary

When software exceeds its purpose, it becomes a constraint, loading down the user with self aggrandizement of useless features that eat up the vitality and enjoyment of your computer. A perfect example is Windows Vista. In fact, that's a perfect benchmark for this comparison.
