Pros: Great quality - great price

Cons: Will not convert to MP3 for a player other than iPod

Summary: Man was I irked when I finished downloading twenty some odd dollars worth of music from iTunes and tried to convert the selections to MP3's to use on my Rio Cali MP3 player. The files are locked leaving you only two options: burn to CD or transfer to Apple's iPod. I'm a die-hard Mac user, but was absolutely furious when I found out that I could not put this music that I purchased legally on a player that was not Apple brand. I figured out a time consuming way to do it after some experimentation, but I won't post that here or the thieves at Apple might block that too. Bottom line, Macs are great, iTunes is a flippin' ripoff unless you want to cave in and buy their brand of player. There are a ton of MP3 download sites out there that don't sell a deceiving product as Apple is doing with iTunes.

Sleepy dads opinion was extremely helpful. I am not an uneducated person by any means, however I am also not up to speed with all of the music/computer/internet options that are out there. I would never have realized that Itune music was not compatible with all mp3 players. Ninety nine percent of the websites out there say 'download music for mp3 and Ipod', or they simply lump it all into one...'music downloads'. Generally it is human nature to 'assume' something after you see it many times. For the not too saavy music person it's an easy mistake to make. I assume when I buy a cd it will fit into my stereo. I would also assume that when I download music for 'mp3 players and ipods' that it will play on my mp3 player, it's not like I'm trying to put it on a tape cassette or 8 track. So, overall this is a lesson well learned. Sleepydad saved me a lot of money (or cost me alot...cause now I want to go and buy and ipod)...but the other reviews were also beneficial...I will read my mp3 manual, if I can find it and I will be more aware of the various music options out there.

Like all the others I purchased from iTunes and it won't play in my MP3 player. I'm not as computer savy as the others, I can't seem to convert their files to MP3. I've wasted more time. It's very simple don't purchase iTunes if you don't have an iPod. After this experience I refuse to purchase anything from Apple. A clearly defined warning explaining why the two don't mix would have been helpful.

well 20 bucks thats only gotta be 20-30 songs right? so couldn't you just burn a couple cds and when you rip them back on to your computer rip em as mp3s?

Apple specifically says that iTunes is ONLY and ONLY for iPod nothing else. You weren't thinking straight when you tried to use it with RIO. Stop blaming the company for your lack of knowledge. This locking of files is true for ANY music store. copying to CD and reripping it is the only option in ALL of the music stores.

OK we agree that Itunes is a great service, cheap and you cant beat the ease of use. Dont knock the service and give it a 1 just because you did not investigate whether your player would sync to it. If anything you need to give a 1 to the Ipod.

Just my 2 cents.

PS Ipod and ITunes ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
