"Well...it's more stable" on by ark_v2
Pros: - Snappier performance
- Cleaner looksCons: - Navigation is still unispired
- Still slow despite performance bump
- SLOW connectivity and sync performance
- Freezes a lot (even when it is less than before)Summary: I've been using the windows version for a while and I can say I just use iTunes for managing music on my iPod touch, which I do manually since the sync with iTunes has always been a pain in my opinion. The only thing I like about it other than that is the iTunes store, but that's about it. It's still as slow, it consumes far to many resources (and it is not shown as in the Zune software) and the lists are still overwelming when managing gigantic music collections like mine. I haven't tried the mac version but as far as Windows media players concerns, the Zune software beats itunes to the ground, specially with the last update. I've used both softwares in two PCs (one with an old p4 and 2 GB of RAM and another one with a core 2 duo with 3 GB of RAM and a decent GPU) and the result is the same, specially with Windows 7. What a surprise, really.

"Mac version rocks, Windows version is lame" on by amigosito
Pros: Refined interface and access to much-improved iTunes Store
Cons: Big file size, clunky on Windows
Summary: People need to realize that iTunes was not designed for Windows, and CNET needs to start reviewing the Mac OS X version separately, as is the case with Safari. Quite frankly, iTunes for Windows is about as good as Windows Media Player for Mac. The issue is driver support; iTunes requires no fewer than 4 DLLs to run (QuickTime, iTunes, Apple Mobile Device, iPod, etc.) whereas under Mac OS X the application gets much more efficient IO access to hardware resources.
Either way, the new iTunes Store interface alone is worth the upgrade, although you will not like the new version if you are a fan of the browsing feature, which Apple has almost completely done away with. -
"great piece of software useful for anything" on by kylemcfa
Pros: Tons of awesome features, a vary polished and sleek user interface, multiple file format support.
Cons: Has a few bugs, can be slow to respond sometimes.
Summary: Overall, iTunes 9 is an amazing piece of digital media management software, packed to the top with tons of innovative features, and comes out with years of experience. The changes to the UI in iTunes 9 are vary noticeable, and very sexy. If you are looking for software to manage digital media, iTunes is the answer.

"Same old thing (that's good and bad)" on by chrgeorgeson
Pros: It's iTunes, meaning that you can install it and use the music player and iTunes music store with relative ease.
Cons: It's a resource hog.
Summary: I'm not sure why iTunes is rated as high as 4 stars on Cnet.
Apple needs to throw out iTunes and START OVER! It's not faster and while the iTunes music store has been redesigned it's not worth the HUGE download!
The biggest problem with iTunes is that it's a all in one program!
Make it modular and you'll get rid of the BLOAT!
How about the people who only want a Music player can get that, and then if they want they can download a plug-in for the iTunes music store, or an iPhone/iPod compatibility plug-in, or the option to download Genius mix.
This is universal on both platforms (Mac and PC) they should realize there is a problem.
For this reason alone iTunes will never be rated higher then 3 stars. -
"A great, simple media player" on by Yelonde
Pros: The program is overall, a very simple program, and works as advertised. I usually play it along side my productivity programs, such as ToonBoom, Flash, and Photoshop. It has all the tv-shows, songs, music videos, and podcasts that I will ever need.
Cons: There is no "all-you-can-eat" like subscription. The addition of such a feature would be nice.
Summary: I have been using iTunes for a couple years now, and though I can't say that iTunes 9 is necessarily any better than itunes 8, or 7, it does add a few new features that make it easier for me to listen to music. I don't know what other users are talking about when they claim that iTunes is slow and unresponsive, because my experience on itunes has been generally good. It even runs on my single-core 1.6 ghz netbook nicely. It has the largest selection of podcasts, songs, movies, and music videos in comparison to any other competitor. Like I said before, I run it alongside my productivity programs like ToonBoom, Flash, and Phtoshop without hitches. I would like to see a subscription service in the future however.
