Every so often, a piece of software lives up to its promise. Such is the case with Dazzle DVD Complete, one of the most sophisticated consumer DVD-authoring programs for Windows PCs. Dazzle is not a video editor; you use it to bring together your existing video clips, design a custom menu, then burn the video files to DVD. But for simple authoring, the $99 Dazzle DVD Complete offers total control for advanced users and simple wizards for beginners, plus it tosses in a few professional features.

Wizards o' delight
Once you install PC-only Dazzle--a simple process--the program automatically searches for any DVD or CD-R/RW drives on your PC. You can then import video from your hard drive or capture directly from a camera in MPEG or AVI format. Unfortunately, Dazzle can't import movies in the popular QuickTime format.

The next step is compiling your DVD. Dazzle offers a slew of beginner-friendly wizards that guide you through each step in creating a DVD, from adding video and audio to choosing menu designs. The wizards perform a wide range of tasks. Some compile very basic DVDs, while the Hollywood DVD Wizard helps you create incredibly complex DVD titles that include short movies before the menu display; special features, such as outtake clips or subtitles; and multiple menus. Only Sonic MyDVD offers as many features, but the $79 MyDVD lacks Dazzle's opening movies and dramatically customizable menus.

Impressive design tools
Once you're through the setup wizard, Dazzle automatically opens its design window. In this area, you can type in your own title text or change the layout and design of your DVD's menu. Unlike most consumer-oriented DVD programs, such as Sonic MyDVD or Pinnacle Express DV, Dazzle DVD Complete offers an impressive variety of design tools, both for DVD screens and for printed DVD covers. The program includes 20 menu themes, which offer a starting point for your design, but you can customize nearly every element, including the typeface, the position, and even the image that you use to represent specific chapters on your DVD. For more variety, you can buy additional theme packs for $20 per pack. Once you've created a complete video file, Dazzle DVD Complete lets you export to both DVD and VideoCD formats.

Solid support
We didn't hit a single snag while testing Dazzle, but if you do, the company offers a full complement of tech support, including e-mail, a helpful online knowledge base and FAQ, and driver downloads for CD- and DVD-burner support. Unfortunately, phone support (available via a toll call from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday) is free only for the first 30 days after purchase. Once that period elapses, you can pay for a variety of support plans, starting at $24.95 per call.

It's a winner
With features that work well both for beginners and more advanced users, Dazzle's DVD Complete stands out among the many consumer DVD-creation packages. Ultimately, we'd like to see Dazzle import more digital video formats, especially QuickTime movies. In the meantime, this app remains the best program available to turn your videos into complex, professional-looking DVDs.

Keep looking

Pros: Uninstalls nicely
Endless source of coasters for your coffee table
Great way to waste time
Never repeats error codes...a new one every time!

Cons: Some software companies will throw anything out there. This stuff must have worked on somebody's computer I suppose.

Review: DVD Flick is free and it works. Just no bells and whistles.

Great for creating DVD's

Pros: I haven't had many of the problems stated throughout...the program is easy to use, and makes great DVD.

Cons: The lack of flexibility with DVD menu templates can get annoying as does the rendering of menus each time you make a change

If it did what it supposed to do it would be great!

Pros: The most versatile DVD authoring product in it's price range.

Cons: I never could get the video capture to work. The program crashed repeatedly in Win98se although it was more stabile in XP. It is very particular about the video and audio formats that you input. It comes with a limited range of menu templates and modif

For those having problems with this product, learn what drives the programme, check your OS settings

Pros: Fast rendering, easy to use, produces great DVD's, best on the market.Works hand in hand with Win XP and Adobe Premiere.

Cons: Manual does not cover all the programmes features and very skimpy in details. Have to recreate menus, if movies are added after creation of menus, which can be time consuming.

Great and worth every cent

Pros: stable, fast, great looking DVD's, customizable menus, added background menu of my own, moved buttons, motion menus, you need to know how to do that.

This junk convinced me to buy a Mac

Pros: Fairly straightforward to use. Just not very good.

Cons: This was a total waste of $100. There is a reason that over 50% didn't like it. The CNET reviewer must have been looking at something else.

Great for those who have clips pre edited!

Pros: Easy and full of features... Also since I use another tool for editing clips from my DV Camcorder this is a amateur's dream!

Cons: Wish it came packaged with my DVD-R drive.

excellent, stable, easy to use product at great price

Pros: I have used myDVD and Ulead Movie Studio. DVD Complete is better than both and some. MyDVD does not have true chapters and Ulead's slideshow quality sucked. This program almost never crash, and helps the user make a DVD fast.

Cons: You have to import and encode a movie before you can do anything with it. Therefore you have to babysit the system longer. Some styles of DVD menus do not look good on TV.

OUTRAGEOUSLEY OUTSTANDING

Pros: Very little stabillity, but all of the reviews from the down people, bull ****! This puppy worked just Upgrade.

Cons: I liked this product. My friends loved the chapters, just get Movie Star 5 and you will be set to make the movie of your dreams! I recomend this for beginning users!

You'll waste a lot of dvd discs

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have a powerful XP pc with over a gig of memory. But this program (along with other Dazzle products) was hopeless. I spent 3 days trying to get the capture device to work and to properly load the software. I spent 12 hours creating a dvd, and when I played it in my dvd player? The audio was completely out of sync--when there was audio. I've used 17 different programs and devices for capturing/editing video. Dazzle is the worst.

User Rating: 4/10

Can see and play but not import AVI files

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I gave up trying to use the version that came with a Dazzle Fusion. I had two or three avi file I wanted to add and DVD Complete could find them and play them but would not add them.

This program is not finished

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This program cannot import wmv files. It cannot porerly convert m2v files. It constantly crashes. It makes you rebuild the menu whenever you want to change something. You cannot move many of the buttons and when you are ready to burn your DVD it ruins many expensive DVD-r's. I'm very experienced at computers and find this program to be complete garbage. I have no idea why Cnet would give it 9/10.

Easy and Sophisticated

Pros:

Cons:

Review: After working in Sonic MyDVD for a few hours with disappointing results (can't reliably set chapters!), I switched to DVD Complete Deluxe and am very happy. The wizards were a little confusing at first, but only because they do so much and expect you to have all your movies and jpegs ready at once. It helps to read the PDF manual. Running under Windows XP on a Compaq Presario 5000 (1.7 Athlon, 384MB RAM, 80-gig HD), the program was stable, only freezing once in Simulator mode for about 30 seconds. I used the Hollywood template to burn a 65-minute movie with outtakes and slide shows to my Sony 500AX superdrive, and it plays perfectly on my year-old Toshiba player. I burned onto DVD-R.

get nero burning rom 5.5.9 instead

Pros:

Cons:

Review: got dazzle dvd complete after seeing its impressive ratings on cnet. tried to burn a vcd with it but never got it to work. it considered almost all my video files incompatible for vcd encoding. nero on the other hand burned those "incompatible" files without much trouble. the interface is much cleaner and user friendly than nero, but the fact that you cant burn discs with it makes it USELESS, at least for me. dvd complete users, good luck. nero users, good job!

THIS IS GARBAGE

Pros: There are none. This program is *******.

Cons: This program has the stability of of a pregnant 12 year old. It crashes every single time. You do ANYTHING with this. I have a brand new system (2.66ghz with all the whistles). Random chapter points suck too. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CRAP. Pl

Very Good at What It's Meant For

Pros:

Cons:

Review: After the current patches, works well on my Dell P4 with Sony DRU500AX DVD burner. I do the fancy editing on Vegas, then bring the files into DVD-Complete to make the menus & burn. Vegas now has its own DVD maker but DVD Complete is still a good source of well-designed menu interfaces. The extreme split in reviews tells me there are various hardware issues rather than bad software design, so keep the faith and wait for the 2.5 update.

Only works to capture video

Pros:

Cons:

Review: If you are interested in copying your old VCR tapes to your computer through the Dazzle Fusion iterface than this product is for you. I am using the DVD+R+RW format and I have yet to burn a DVD that did not come up with the error disk is corrupt or the format cannot be read by Windows when playing it back in my DVD ROM. I was able to burn to a CD the same video that I captured througn the Dazzle Moviestar5, no support you will rot waiting for someone to pick up the phone unless you call for the fee support and then someone mysteriously picks up right away, but I recommend using a broadband or dsl connection when talking to them so you can do the downloads and tell them that it did or did not work rather than forking over another $15 bucks.

Not Bad, You Just Have to Learn It

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Ive tried alot of DVD authoring programs and this is the only one that adds up. I see what why most people are complaining about burning coasters because blank DVD media are far from in expensive. I own a TDK 420N DVD+R burner and this program wont burn to DVD+R discs directly. What you do is build a DVD image on your hard drive THEN burn the Audio & Video folders in Nero 5.5. Haven't burned a coaster yet. Bottom line is GREAT! program for the price.

More Money To Spend??

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought a Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150 for $200, and this software came with it. It just plain makes me angry that there is not much functionality until you pay more for the deluxe upgrade? I already forked over $200; why should I have to spend more to upgrade a dazzle piece of software that should already include full functionality. The Dazzle Device works GREAT. I have no complaints there, but the software really lacks true functionality. I wish that I would have bought the Pinnacle systems PCTV Deluxe. It is a much better package. Thank you Dazzle for making this my last purchase from your company.

User Rating: 3/10

Regardless of waht you do, the software will not burn DVDs

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I upgraded to DVD Complete Deluxe, which was really a waste of money. The added features are not very useful. The software's design is very restrictive; it has wizards that automate your work, but they limit your possibilities tremendously. You have to figure work arounds to use the software's features as they have been advertised, and some are impossible to use. But the main problem is burning to DVDs. I have a DVD+R/RW burner and I was only able to burn one DVD+RW. After that, all I get is a pop-up error window that says "Error 4: Unable to create DVD". There is no mention of what error 4 is either on the docuemntatin, the on-line help file or Dazzle's website. After many email messages to Dazzle (forget about calling them on the phone; you'll be on hold for at least 20 minutes while paying for a long distance phone call), they accepted that their software does not burn DVD+R/RW. They said that this would be fixed with version 2.07, which they promised to ship as soon as it was available. It is now available and they did ship it, but there is absolutely no difference. I uninstalled version 2.06 completely, installed version 2.07 and I still get "Error 4". I know this is one of the cheapest DVD authoring tools available, but it actually turns out to be the most expensive one if you cannot create DVDs. If you are thinking of buying authoting software, you will have to accept that there is a reason this software is so cheap. Caveat emptor.

Great Features,Previews good, Renders bad

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I purchased the dcs 200 package wirh dazzle dvd complete at Christmas. To this date I have not had a single good render of the movie! I have upgraded to the newest version, and updated drivers. The chat room forums for this package on Dazzles Website says it all. It Wont work as advertised, Period!!! There are work arounds that you can do to get the movie rendered and burned. They dont include upgrading from standard version to premium version " it has the same problems" The capture portion of the package works good, the design and arrangment of the movie files works ok. Just dont try to burn anything untill you preview the rendered copy! It will have lots of "BLOCKY" artifacts. This is a problem with the render portion of the package. Try ULEAD Video instead.

It does it's job

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I got this with a bundle when I bought "Hollywood Dazzle", back in Feb. THIS is the only software & hardware that has worked I am fed up with the rest of it. It was a waste of money. Dazzle DVD Complete does everything for you. Follow the wizard & your project is done on DVD before you know it. It isn't very good editing a movie, but everything else is great.

User Rating: 7/10

Just try it! SEE WHAT YOU THINK!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: As with all software, opinions vary grately, just try it for yourself and see what "YOU" think. NOTE: SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE CLAIMING PROBLEMS WITH THE SOFTWARE COULD BE HAVING COMPUTER RELATED PROBLEMS AND NOT THE SOFTWARE. COMPUTERS ARE VERY COMPLEX AND ARE NOT WITHOUT ISSUES. Have fun an take care! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!!!!

No sound on burned DVDs

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Tried the trial version. The supplied menus are nice but a bit clunky looking to me (but they are on all the DVD authoring apps I've seen). The real problem is when I go to author the DVD. Whether I output the DVD to a file and burn the DVD with Nero, or burn the DVD directly with DVD Complete, there is *no sound* on the DVD (tied plyback both on computer and settop DVD player). Checking the Ulead forums confirmed that other people have been having this problem, with no fix available. As such, I can't reccommend this product.

User Rating: 3/10

Great features, bad delivery

Pros:

Cons:

Review: The review and feature set sound great. Using movie clips as chapter heads, with sound -- slick! Too bad the reality is not the same. After a few hours of deciphering the options, preview looked good and I burned the DVD. Menu clips did not play as selected; effects were disjointed. On top of that, the audio crept forward and by the end of the DVD was more than a second ahead of the video! Another disappointing digital video product for the PC. Last week I bought my first Macintosh. Mac still owns the quality graphics and video markets.

Cons:

False advertising

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I purchased the Dazzle Creative Station 200 which came with the basic DVD Complete. I upgraded the software to DVD Complete Deluxe to get the added features. Problem 1) Movie Star 5 will interrupt an import at 1hour 28minutes and create a new mpeg file. This is because of the Split Size option that the creators put in. The first mpeg is 3.798GB. If any of you have checked out a blank DVD it states that you have 4.7GB free space (equivalent to ~4.3GB usable space). This is frustrating if you have created your own movies that are greater than 1:28 in length because you now have two mpegs that you have to deal with instead of one. I should be able to create a 10GB mpeg and then use the Movie Star 5 software to cut it down the way I want. Not be limited. Problem 2) Once you figure out the limitations then you can conceal them in DVD Complete Deluxe by setting the properties of the first mpeg to go to the second mpeg (since you can?t even combine the two). Once you get through all of this and then save your project then you run into the biggest problem. The Create DVD will not work. During the conversion process the program will error out at 1 minute 14 seconds due to a MUX error. After finally getting to talk at someone at Dazzle I was politely informed that it is a known bug. A KNOWN BUG! I have yet to burn a DVD because of their known bug that is not listed on their web site and have basically $2000 worth of equipment that is useless. The problem (from what I could gather) is due to DVD driver problems. This does not make sense to me because I haven?t even tried to burn it to DVD yet, only tried to create the image for burning later. Buyer beware, I read all of these outstanding reviews and got burned! I am now trying to see if I can use the DCS200 hardware with any other software. VERY DISAPPOINTED! I wonder if the reviewer actually used it...

If u like sound and slideshows this is not 4 u

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I love the chapter-based interface of video editing. It does a GREAT job with the video. However, I like to include slideshows with audio overlap in my DVDs I send to family...this application is horrible for that. NO mp3 support (mp2 and wav only), almost impossible to get a large set of pics to take if they came from more than one source.... All in all, nice video editing, but the overall finished product does not score well. close.

Doesn't write DVD+R

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought it for DVD+R as I just got a new Dell 8250 PC with DVD+R burner. Spent 4 hours preparing, capturing, then when I went to burn - error. False advertising - says it supports all DVD formats, but it doesn't. Try to go find out about this on their website - you'll get lost in a maze. Crapola on a disk - shipping back tomorrow.

Dazzle Support Non-Existent

Pros:

Cons:

Quite simply, outstanding.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought this product via electronic download after having researched *quite* thoroughly. My budget was £100 and there are a number of products in this range. I wanted a product that offered some flexibility and a little more than just basic facilities. Installation was uncomplicated. I wrote initially to DVD-RW (which was straightforward) and after using the product a few times I happened across this site. I must say, having read some of the negative comments, I wondered whether I was using the same product. How can people honestly say that the program is unstable, lacks pzazz and is not worth every penny of the modest cost?? I'm burning DVD's with multiple menu structures. My friends are GOBSMACKED. I've STILL not encountered any problems - sure, there are a few little annoyances, limited customisation of menu buttons etc (ie not possible to layout your page to user defined settings) but this is a sub $100 program. When version 3.0 is released the innovative capabilities of the program will, I'm sure, be taken to new heights. Seriously, I cannot recommend this product highly enough. Simple as that.

User Rating: 5/10

Nice product - but won't burn DVD+R!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: DVD Complete will burn a DVD+RW fine on my Sony DRU-500A---but the same files to a DVD+R completes much too soon and produces a coaster. Nero using the same files works fine, so it's definitely a DVD Complete problem. Dazzle's support is NON-EXISTENT. You cannot get anyone on the phone and my submission to their web site has been there for over 2 weeks with NO response. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT (or any Dazzle product) if you expect problems to be addressed.

Won't work with Pioneer DVR-105

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Won't even recognize the DVR-105 burner. Plus no mp3 audio support and very poor conversion capabilities from various video file formats. Interface is reasonable, but slow. Templates are promising, but with the lack of other features, MovieFactory 2.0 runs great circles around this product.

The absolute best in the under $100.00 price range

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I do not know what program those that have responded negatively are using but it is NOT the same DVD Complete I am using. I have a Pioneer DVR-A04 AND a HP dvd200i and it outclasses the authoring software provided with the writers, Pinnacle Express (which I've used in conjunction with Studio 7 Deluxe) and Studio 8 Deluxe's much ballyhooed dvd authoring solutions. It has worked flawlessly with either unit after firmware upgrades.

It Burns Set-Top DVD's!!!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: DAZZLE hit the head on the nail with this program. If your goal is to take your beautiful files and share them on DVD's which WILL play on set-top players (capable of reading burned discs of course), this program will do it for you. You have complete control over the entire process - don't foregt automated menu and DVD cover (and inlet) creation are also at your disposal. I had trouble with other major DVD burning packages creating discs for set-top players. Sonic's DVDit over the past year (with upgrades) have made me about 20 DVD-R coasters. Roxio's Videowave will also create set-top DVD's, but miscalculates the size of the DVD leaving you with a fraction of the burning space you could have used - and it's simplistic control give you no way to get around that barrier. Get Dazzle's software package - you won't be dissapointed!

You got to know how to use it.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: People that are having problems are just not using it right. To encode two hours of video, go to Tools> Options> Encoding Options. Click on CBR and set the bitrate to 4,000,000. Check Deinterlace Video Streams, but leave everything else under quality unchecked. Slide both performance level and motion search to 7. Use this as a guide for CBR encoding for 720x480 MPEG2: 3,500,000 gives you about 2 hours and 30 minutes. 4,000,000 gives you about 2 Hours and 10 minutes. 5,500,000 gives you about 90 minutes.

Great when coupled with ATI ALL IN WONDER

Pros:

Cons:

Review: DVD Complete came bundled with Dazzle 80, which I bought on sale for only $40 (after rebate). But I shelved the capture hardware and am using DVD Complete with video captured by my ATI 8500 All In Wonder instead. Add to the mix an inexpensive Konka DVD player (which is the only player I know of that outputs video already de-macrovisionized, which eliminates the need for a ripper). Before buying this product I suffered with several freeware tools, like DVDx and TPG. I also suffered with "B's DVD" which came bundled with my DVD writer (only good for hour to hour and a half movies). DVD Complete works so much faster (one hour to author is MUCH better than 14 hours of re-encoding with the freeware tools!) and with better audio synchronization and better quality output than any other program I've used. Even three hour videos captured at a lowly constant bit rate of 3250 Mbs look and sound great using DVD Complete. Version 2.06 upgrade is out now, and adds some additional functionality to the program, and support for video that isn't DVD compliant. Also, I have yet to see this program crash or even act strangely, unlike other software I've tried. It seems very solid, but see below for some exceptions. I ordered the DVD Complete Deluxe upgrade for only $30 more, and am looking forward to transferring over 80 hours of home movies using this software. One of the best features is that it will work with captured video of varying bit rates (ie; 3000, 3250, 3500, 3750, 4000, 4250, 4500, 4750, 5000 etc, up to 7750 mbs). So you can fit a four hour movie on a single DVD if you want - but at a lower video quality, or a one-hour video of very exceptional video quality. I transferred some of my old deteriorating 8mm Videos (even three hour tapes) to DVD with excellent results. Now some complaint: I can print jewel cases without any problems, but when I try to print DVD labels, it tells me that it can't find the printer! This is true of both local and network printers (HP and Canon). It also has a problem with Mpeg2's I captured at 8000 Mbs... It had to re-encode them to a lower bitrate before they would work.

MPEG encoder poor compression forget 2 hour DVD's

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is a moderately useful product with a series of shortcomings. The MPEG encoder makes it extremely difficult to create 2 hour DVD's from avi files? How about a little help documentation to save the customers dozens of hours of trial and error? Very slow productivity tool... a single DVD burn takes at least 3 complete encoding passes at separate steps in the applications processes before the burn... lets see, for a one hour DVD that means 3 hours of conversion time + the burn time... equals around 4 hours? And if you make a mistake, your back a the starting block? At least it allows editing of chapter points, a serious limitation of MYDVD. The menus are usable, although lack polished graphics and fonts. Placement of text labels is "hit or miss" due to length of text used... and worst of all, there is no way to review the sub-menues, until you complete the 3rd painfully slow rendering process? note: i'm using a 2.4 Ghtz pentium 4 on a 533 mhz buss. I'd recommend this tool for the simple DVD tasks that can settle for 1 hour max DVDs. I'm looking forward to their next release... I think they could navigate this product to be a winner...

This IS great!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I'm not a fan of Dazzle.inc and have had bad luck with Dazzle hardware products, however, DVD Complete Deluxe is the one to get. I didnt like the $99 price tag, but got an email offer of $75 on sale, so I downloaded the demo, to test. The demo worked pretty good, good enough for me to buy the "on sale" DVD Complete Deluxe ver 2.06 ESD. I downloaded it after purchase, and absolutely LOVE it! My Sony DVD+RW burner came with DVDIT (a real joke). It was awful. I wanted a good, powerful but easy, feature packed DVD authoring program that "WORKED" please. And Dazzle sure did deliver. My usage is to copy all my old VHS tapes using an ATI capture video card (8500dv), then use tmpgenc to convert and shrink the file size to mpeg1. Then, make a DVD. This worked so slick with DVD Complete (just make sure the tmpgenc audio is set for 48000 so Dazzle wont need to re-encode). Not I'm going to get the add-on theme pack for $19. I love this program. $99 was a good deal, $75 was sooo sweet, since this program DOES -really DOES work great!!! (Pent4, 512mem, Sony DVD+RW, WinXP Home, ATI 8500DV)

Works great if you update it!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This software came with my Dazzle d150 video digitizer. After reading all the negative comments about the stability of the product I made sure to download the patches for the DVD complete and D-150 program. The program was COMPLETELY STABLE under XP home edition on my P-4. It detected my gateway's dvd-ram/-r drive and within an hour I had authored my first dvd. The menu templetes are a bit limiting but for a DVD newbie like me it does the trick.

Junk, and hard to find support.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Dazzle DVD Complete came with their Digital Video Creator 150 H-Speed USB 2.0. However, the software seems to only work with Firewire. It will not work with USB 2.0, even though that is the connection interface for the DVC 150. Attention to detail has been lost with this one. Sketchy descriptions are misleading. Generally, a piece of junk.

Running fine on WinXP using 1394 attached Pioneer A03

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This works fine, but has some limitations that are annoying, such as no template editor. The included MPEG encoder is VERY good, and fast yileding results almost identical to TMPEG at high quality settings in a fraction of the time. For newbies this is a good app. Experienced users will quickly run into roadblocks, particularly with menu layout options (or lack therof). Why can I move buttons around but not the thumbnails that go with them? This app gets so much right but falls flat on its face with respect to menu building. I'd love to have a template editor. It's nice that they grok layer2 audio. But Dolby Digital support would be nice too. My DV camera can shoot 16:9 anamorphic, I'd like to see that handled properly. I have the full version of Sonic and while it may provide these features the UI is awful. Summary : good for new to intermediate users but advanced users will get frustrated with lack of flexability in menu design.

Restricts the advanced user

Pros:

Cons:

Review: So far with the v2.06 patch it's been fairly stable and a decent product for begginner to intermediate, but for advanced users who want to fully customize their dvd menus, this program may not be for them. You are very restricted to the pre-built themes that this includes and some you can buy. The themes determine where the text, button graphics, scene thumbnails, and even what menus are included. There is no built in way to edit the themes and no other way to add or delete menus and chapter thumbnails after applying the themes. I do like the motion menus and motion backgrounds. So if you don't mind using pre-built templates to determine the overall look of your dvd menus then this program is great.

Not too happy with this

Pros:

Cons:

Review: As the title says, I'm not too happy with this program. It does have it's good points like customization, but i've burned more coasters than successful discs and that just is unacceptable. I've talked to tech support and my computer is well within capabilities to use this. They can't even help me. I don't know how this reviewer gave it such a good rating.

it just doesn't work.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: everything is great until you tried to build a dvd. then it crashes. what makes it worse is that there is no tech support. you just hang on the phone. what is the use of having all the features in the world when it does not do what it supposed to do.

3 updates, 6mos. No luck

Pros:

Cons:

Review: If this software was a car, it would be covered by the lemon law. The OnDVD,DCS200 work, Movie Star makes nice MPEGS, DVDcomplete is non compatible with XP. Maybe somebody will come out with a unit that plugs into 1394 with a TV tuner and converts analog to DVD. Save your money till then.

The Best Value Around

Pros:

Cons:

Review: DVD Complete offers an excellebnt array of features for an unbelievable price. The support team is also extremely helpful, quickly releasing updates to support new DVD drives, etc. Given the price of this package, I don't have any complaints.

Does NOT Support all Formats!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Hello? This product claims to support ALL DVD Recording Formats, yet when purchased and installed, to my extreme aggravation, $100 bucks spent and DOES NOT support DVD+R, which if I'm not mistaken IS one of the FOUR DVD Formats. Am I missing something? I'm now using Ulead's DVD Workshop 1.2 and am having GREAT success burning great looking DVDs that have, so far, played on EVERY player I've tried (anywhere from 1 to 4 year old DVD decks). I am through with Dazzle.

Mediocre product

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought a HP DVD 200e external DVD writer which came with Sonic My DVD software. As I was looking for a DVD authoring application with more features, I followed your recommendation and bought Dazzle DVD Complete. I surely has more features than the Sonic product, but you?re totally wrong to name this software the ultimate tool for DVD Creation. Here are some features which annoyed me a lot and this is why I don't recommend to buy it if you're serious about DVD creation: - You can?t move the buttons on the menus, they?re all autogenerated and there?s no way to move them or add more. How can you say this is a professional DVD application when you can?t customize the menus ???!!! - One side of the box has a chart of Supported features that says: Number of movies per DVD : 40. However when you see the (poor) included documentation you find out that only 20 movies are allowed per DVD (surprise !!!). Even Sonic can manage unlimited movie files. This is a major and unacceptable limitation. - When you import movies it takes a lot of time to load each one, and you can?t load them in groups. If you will load the maximum 20 movies allowed, it will take you about 20 minutes and you will have to do it one by one. This doesn?t happen with the Sonic package. - Each mpg I imported is duplicated in a propietary .m2v, which consumes almost the same amount of space of the original mpg file, and that?s why it takes 1 minute per movie load. The question is why does it need to duplicate the files when they were original DVD NTSC movies (720x480) ready to burn ? - Almost useless included manual, and poorly designed on-line help. Hard to browse. - You can?t edit the imported movies with this package (you can?t even trim the files!!), and it doesn?t include any video editing program. So you will need another application to do this, they suggest to use Dazzle MovieStar which, of course, you should buy at additional cost. No way. Sonic My DVD includes Showbiz video editing software, which I don?t like much. I downloaded the Ulead Video Studio Trial and worked with it. In summary, not bad for a first release version, but still far away from a professional and flexible DVD authoring tool. You guys at CNET should test more the software before recommending it, I don?t see any of the problems I stated to be listed in ?the bads? of the product.

Out of Box experience is abysmal

Pros:

Cons:

Review: My gosh... this thing can't even handle video files that don't have audio! Read their forums before you buy. I bought this on CNET's glowing recomendation and I couldn't be more dissapointed. So far, after 4 hours of labor, I haven't made a single dvd. :P Very frustrating

Does write to DVD+R

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I too purchased this after reading a few weeks ago after reading the glowing review here on CNET. I used it for the first time today and was skepticle about it working properly. But before i used it, I went out to Dazzle's site to download the recent updates: http://www.dazzle.com/support/updates_DVDComplete.html. There is the 2.04 update and the PxEngine update. I'm not sure if this did the trick but everything worked as advertised. I too received an "invalid media" error initially, but that's because my CD-R drive was the one highlighted initially. I simply chose my HP DVD200e as the device and it worked fine. After exporting my MPEG files from Premiere 6.5 and importing them into Dazzle, I was quite impressed on how effortlessly it was to create a professional looking DVD (played on my Sony but not my older JVC). I'm now looking forward to exploring Dazzle's advanced features. So far, so good.

Not bad, but it doesn't work....

Pros:

Cons:

Review: A decent enough interface, and seems stable on my Win98 system, but geez.... it doesn't support my Memorex 40Maxx burner. Guess I'll have to dig out my antique 4X to burn a VCD or two--- or go back to using VCDEasy-- which is free.

Almost completely useless

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought DVD complete for the motion menu support it contains. Which is great. However You Can NOT create menus without using the "auto generate menus" function, which takes all the control of the look and feel away from the user. Once menu button images are placed (by the menu wizard) they can NOT be moved. You can move the actual area you click on, just not the image underneath it. The themes are ok, but if you want to do something other than vacation, birthday, or business. then they are pretty much useless. (considering you can't move the button imagery they are totally useless.)

Does NOT support DVD+R

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I purchased this software because it said right on the box, "....supports ALL DVD Formats and Burners.......". It actually says this in a couple of places. I have an HP DVD200i that I purchased so I could burn movies and play them on both my new DVD player(a Panasonic), and a 4 year old model as well (the Panasonic 110). When I got it installed it was relatively easy to use and accepted my rendered file from Adobe Premiere. But when it came time to actually 'write' to a DVD+R, I got an 'invalid media' error that said 'this drive will not write to this type of disk'. Sure enough, the 'Help' file shows it will work with DVD-R/RW or DVD+RW but not '+R'. I tried using Ulead's DVD Workshop 1.2 instead, and not only did it work, but my DVDs play on BOTH my new AND old Panasonic set top players.

Outrageous!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Dazzle made false advertisement on their product. In contrast to what they say on the box, DVD Complete (from DVD Creation 200) does not work with Windows XP. I bought mine more than 30 days ago so vendor refused to refund my $254. I did contact Dazzle for help, but their Customer Service department seems not exist. They took the contact link out of their website for DVD Complete customers. I tried to contact them by phone, but ended up waiting and listening to phone music for 45 minutes without any answers. There was a phone message: Pay $12.95 if want faster service! Isn't it outrageous?

Rock solid performance, great interface!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: After reading some of the less than glowing comments, I was holding my breath before I ran this program. After buring a few DVD's, I am completely confised at the negative reviews. This program works, and very well! After installing DVD Complete Deluxe on my XP Pro system, I upgraded it to 2.04 and installed the engine updates, both from Dazzle's website. I slipped in the new A04 burner and upgraded the firmware to the latest version. After hooking up the fire-wire connection, I downloaded a couple of DV tapes worth of video using Premiere 6, and saved it to the hard drive. Firing up DVD Complete, I picked a template and went to work. It was too easy! In a few minutes I had a DVD set to burn with chapters, extra features, and a menu tree that rival any commercial DVD. I burned a perfect DVD that looked even better in the set-top then it did in the computer preview. Was this experience a fluke? I put together 3 more movies (using a both VHS captured video and digital originals), burned on a mixture of DVD-RW and DVD-R, and they all came out perfect. What can I say? This program delivers all that it claims and then some! If you want to author professional looking DVD's, this is the program for you!

Nice package needs stability

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I acquired DVD complete as part of the DVD Creation Station 200. It seemed like the perfect solution to begin transferring all of my old VHS tapes into the computer for transfer to DVD. I also have used Pinnacle Studio 8 for all my DV needs. There is not much good to report about DVD complete. It would not link to the DVD Creation Station and a call to tech support indicated that I should use MovieStar instead while they iron out issues. I had DVD complete version 2.04 and an update on Dazzle's site (2.05) caused more problems that it solved, essentially eliminating any ability to work with video. On a positive note, MovieStar was able to capture nice MPEG2 directly to the drive. However, working with MovieStar was equally infuriating as it crashed and burned at seemingly every step. As it stands right now, I am reverting back to Pinnacle Studio until the Dazzle folks get this program ironed out. I should point out that I am on Windows XP home..I do not know if similar problems will be encountered on other versions. It has great potential and I think Dazzle will get it right. If you are patient, like me, I think it will be well worth it in the end. Currently, Pinnacle has nothing to fear however.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I recieved this program as part of the Dazzle DVD Creation Station 200. I have yet to be able to create a DVD. I supply the program with captured video, it processes it, then when I attempt to burn it on DVD, the program simply stops with no error messages. Tech support has been of no help at all(when you can even get thru to them, i've spent literally HOURS on hold). I'm just about ready to try for a refund. Too bad, because the hardware does a good job of video capture.

Who's kidding who?

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Did Erik Holsinger even use the product before reviewing it? Looks like he submitted a review pre-written by Dazzle's marketing department. How can anyone condone $24.95 per call for support on a product that will crash and/or fail each time you try to use it? This thing failed when tried on TechTV's "The Screensavers." It is so bad, you've got to contact Dazzle for a replacement CD the moment you receive it because the version in the product carton is too "buggy." Takes over 2 weeks to get that replacement CD if you get one at all. Some people are still waiting. I guess if it takes you more than the "free" 30 day period to figure out your problems stem from this software, you pay $24.95 for the call to get that CD? Ignore Erik Holsinger's review and be sure to search the web for user reports in forums and newsgroups to get the "real story."

Good bang for the buck, but nodody's perfect

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Overall, I am happy I bought DVD Complete. But, as of 8-12-02 Version 1.02 does not appear to support DVD+R, but new drivers might be in the works. "Themes" a little busy, and hard to alter, but cool. Compression quality not as good as say, Canopus, or TMPGENC, (graing dissolves, etc.), but you can compress elsewhere, and use DVD Complete for menus, etc. Tech support seems a little overworked/understaffed, and my first encounter was, ummm... not worth the twenty-minutes on hold, especially since it was a toll call. No manual with the downloaded version. Not even a PDF! Online Knowledgebase" just so so. Still the best thing under $500.00
