Great CD/DVD Authoring Suite!

Pros: HUGE wealth of features for a consumer program, easy to figure out, free updates add functionality

Cons: A little buggy at times, interface could use some updating

Review: I really enjoy working with Nero 6 Ultra Edition. It has all the features I needed plus lots more. The free updates that Nero posts on their website is quite convenient, even if it's because their product was released before it was rock-solid. I, myself, have had very few problems with Nero... its followed me to three different computers, all without a hitch. I would definitely buy this product again.

Terrible for authoring a DVD

Pros: The exit button works

Cons: It installs without errors

Review: This program is an absolute waste of time and money - even the free version is not worth installing. This software has several bugs that prevents it burning a decent quality version DVD. Note that I did not say good quality, but just a decent quality.

My wife and I recorded several mpeg videos with our Sony camera. The videos were added to a DVD and burned. The audio is off on a couple of DVD's - it sounds like people are talking in a cave. On other DVD's, the audio is out of sync with the movement of the persons mouth.

On a couple of other DVD's, they will not play in some home DVD players. These same DVD's that will not play in the home player, there is no audio track while playing in the computer.

On some DVD's there are gray pixels all over the TV screen. These pixels are huge, there must be a hundred of them.

No matter what I do, I can not get a simple DVD to burn with mpeg's recorded with a digital camera.

Throw away the oem versions

Pros: Buy it used somewhere cheap

Cons: buggy buggy buggy windows? or nero who knows?

Review: OMG, I had that oem version too, what a joke...it wont tell you you cant do it..the button is there...you think your okay, you click and the button pushed, but nothing happend...NOTHING no error message nothing...what a joke...I didnt realize I had the oem and didnt offer that feature until 4 hours later....waste of my time...bought a stand alone dvd burner and say bye to bill gates........................

This is great ,Try Nero 7

Pros: It has numurous funtions

Cons: This program is very hard to learn I have had it for about a year and still have not figured everything out

Review: This is a great product and good for the price, it will not let you back up Movie DVD's however. It also requires you to have Windows or some player to use it's burning capabilities. They did do a good job in designing this though, but it has some bugs they need to fix. If you try to back up one of you own personel files it will give you an error reading and will not funtion.

Getting thru to Tech Support SUCKS

Pros: 6.6 works well

Cons: Their whole TS makes really sucks.

Review: TS support is impossible to get through (unless you want to spend $2/min.) Otherwise forget. No knowledge base to search, and after filling out their TS form, the website almost never accepts it.

User Rating: 2/10

Waste of time and money

Pros: None to think of

Cons: Overblown program! Useless menus!

Review: The sorriest piece of software I ever had the misfortune to buy!

User Rating: 2/10

Spend your money on something else!

Pros: Can burn CD & DVD

Cons: Slide show function is pretty buggy

Review: Interface takes some getting use to, many bugs and tech support not very responsive.

the best burning software ever!

Pros: superb burning sofware.

Cons: nothing i can think of.

Review: this is the best burnig software. much faster than roxio. i switched over to nero ultra 6.6 one day cause all of my friends joked how amateur i am with my silly roxio. And they're right. After using Nero for a few days, i uninstall roxio and have been sticking with Nero ever since.
i burn tons, literally, tons of dvdrs (verbatim 16x dvdrs & Plestor PX-716UF) and never had any problem at all. It never crashes.
i am not sure why many users are having difficulties with nero and give it a ONE.

Cons: More bloated than previous 5.5x version

Never failed to burn a CD-R with Nero Burning ROM SE for over an year

Pros: Lot's of applications bundled for a low price

Cons: Didn't find any so far but never tried ALL CD/DVD burning options and types

Review: I think nero burning rom is the best so far and I tried many over 6years. About this suite you can't get similar apps for the same price. Many people here focus on their single problems and rate the product as bad. I could also do it as nero vision express doesn't go that smooth in my pc but I know it's because it is old. Most of the programs show tooltips when you hover them with the mouse and I classify this program's help as excelent. Just try it and see for yourselves.

Waste of money - don't buy it

Pros: Haven't found any

Cons: Too many to list

Review: I had to give this crap a one as it would not let me give a 0 rating. The software stinks. Technical support is NON Existant. Don't bother filling out the tech support form on the website as NO ONE READS THEM and they sure don't answer you. Oh, and don't bother to call the tech support line listed on the nero website (which will cost you money should anyone bother to answer the phone). I spent a half hour listening to a pre-recorded selection menu that got me no where.

I don't know what the reviewer was thinking when the praises of this software were written. I have not had a successful burn yet. I won't even mention the problems I have had with my computer freezing up due to this crappy software.

My advice is to SAVE YOUR MONEY unless you like no technical support, no guidance, and a ton of frustration. If that is your goal, then this software is for you.

This product sucks. It DOES NOT burn DVDs.

Pros: It has a good graphical interface, but that is it. It cannot do what it says it should.

Cons: It cannot burn DVD+R

Review:

User Rating: 4/10

Frustrating & unreliable

Pros: Does just about everything you need

Cons: Doesn't do them reliably.

Review: The very first time I attempted to burn a DVD, Nero left off the last 10 minutes (out of 30!) without explanation or error. More recently when I was burning audio CDs, Nero would sporadically fail to initialize the burn, offering completely useless error messages (tip: Google the phrase ?burn process error? and settle in for some lengthy reading). Updates didn't help. No hope of tech support w/o paying thru the nose. The multi-app interface is ugly & cumbersome, and keeps popping up unwelcome. Unless you're a hardware guru, avoid Nero.

User Rating: 3/10

DVD video burning needs improvement. Continuous upgrades offer false hope.

Pros: Photo slide show works great

Cons: A lot of problems burning video. Editing difficult

Review: I spent weeks e-mailing support with no success. Downloaded numerous upgrades.
I make more coasters than DVD'S.
It is difficult to determine the cause of a failed burn.
Video editing in not user friendly.
I would uninstall the program and cut my losses, but the photo slide show burns a good DVD that works in most players.

User Rating: 1/10

Awful DO NOT BUY!

Pros: There are no Pros Don't buy this!

Cons: So many! This program just stinks

Review: The people at CNET that rated this program highly were paid off. I can not think of any reason they would like this garbage. Now nothing they rate has any credibility!

User Rating: 8/10

Works great for Cd's

Pros: InCD has been above what I expected.

Cons: Once every 4 months 1 InCD goes to read only

Review: Overall I was happy with it. Use it mostly just for backing up programs to multiple CDRW's (InCD) and used in multiple desktops and a laptop with same versions on all. Only used it for DVD regular backup a few times on cousins computer and he had the same versions I had with no problems.

Was having multiple problems with Roxio EZCD Creator on a couple of my computers and was glad I switched. Going to wait 6 to 9 months for Nero 7 to get the bugs worked out and then I'll probably switch my computers over.

User Rating: 1/10

Bugs in the software - tries to charge for fixing them!

Pros: usually a great burn program, but this version sucks

Cons: Bugs in the CD write program

Review: If I had to give this a rating, it would be a negative 10 or so... hy release software that is not complete and running correctly and package it with a Sony drive??? Sad... Older versions of NERO don't have these problems, then when one tries to get ahold of someone, they want to charge you for their mistakes??? PLEASE!!! Avoid this buggy program like the plague! There are many other burning programs out there that work properly and don't crash like this one, and don't charge when they've let out a buggy version... Nero blew it on this version (6.xxx) I hope their QC people get it together! Not at all amused that it burns DVDs fine,, but the CD burner is screwed up!

User Rating: 1/10

Don't waste your money.

Pros: Lot's of features, if they worked correctly.

Cons: Too many to mention.

Review: Bought nero for it's video editing features. It worked OK without the updates. Except it would hand up while burning DVD's.
I downloaded the update packs, and it just went down the toilet from there. My DVD burning speed went down to a crawl, takes me 3hrs to burn a DVD. While editing if I add any additional audio, the sound is completely distorted to a point that you can't hear. I tried updating, re-installing, using Nero without updates, contacted the non-existant support. All of this whitout success. I had absolutely no problems while using Sonique My DVD, or even the free Windows Movie Maker.

Comp. Specs. 3.4Ghz, 1Gb Ram, GeForce 256MB, Win XP.

User Rating: 9/10

I keep comming back to this program

Pros: Updated often. Nice video editing for the price. Lots of flexibilty

Cons: The wave editor is a bit lacking.

Review: I'm using version 6.6 and I'm very pleased with this application. I purchased this from Nero as a digital download. I've tried a lot of other all-in-one software, but Nero Ultra edition does the best job for the price. I really like the encoder options, the video editing tools, which as mentioned in the review rival more expensive programs.

In my opinion, you don't need documentation. If you do, you can download it in pdf and burn it to a disk! - or view the online help.

User Rating: 2/10

RIP-OFF, please try another product.

Pros: AT LEAST I GOT A REBATE

Cons: Under-developed waste of money. Few unique features

Review: How did CNET come to the conclusion that this is an excellent product? The features are poor and most of the program options are dedicated to marketing of the nero product line.
I have more functionality with windows media player combined with the bundled software of my DVD-burner than I have with Nero's hard-drive occupying $79 piece of garbage. Does not handle popular vidoe files well. Does not record live TV well. Does not rip CD's well.
Overall---it sucks. Try Ulead.

BUYER BEWARE - SUPPORT IS INEFFECTIVE

Pros: great promise (falls short)

Cons: Support is dysmal at best

Review: I had been successfully using Nero for a bit over a year. I recently upgraded to their new version, and encountered a problem with BackItUp where it would ALWAYS crash near the end of the second DVD of a multi (6) DVD set. I spent numerous hours and effort 'working' with customer service, namely someone named Claudius, that had me run burns, save and ship logs on a couple of occasions. In the end, they refused to provide assistance in isolating the problem to whatever was causing the problem. They led me to believe I had a driver problem, but would not assist in identifying which driver was /could be causing the situation. My advice - buy someone else's product who will provide helpful customer service - "Ahead" is behind.....

I can provide copies of all correspondence to anyone that is interested. Email themonniers@charter.net

Video Editing not up to Nero Standards!

Pros: Love Nero Audio, Free Upgrades

Cons: Poor Editor, Non Intuitive Interface, Poor OEM Version

Review: First I bought the OEM V6 and upgraded to V6.6. Then I paid for an MPEG license but could not edit (e.g. cut out commercials).

Next I bought the 6.0 Ultra Version and upgraded that to 6.6.

The workspace is very structured and non-intuitive.

I spent several hours trying to edit TV video. Trim function (from end) mentioned but not functional. Cut function (from middle) difficult. After finding the commercial, you must re-find it with the cut start maker, then find the cut stop marker, then cut. There is no "undo" for errors.

User Rating: 9/10

The best there is!

Pros: Native ASPI driver, rock stable!

Cons: so far none

Review: Nero 6.0 Ultra Edition brings a host of applications directly related to CD/DVD burning. It installs its own ASPI driver for better stability and compatibility.

I'd recommend this product to anybody involved in heavy CD/DVD bussiness!

User Rating: 1/10

don't waste your time or money

Pros: uninstall program available for download

Cons: program doesn't work - technical support of no value

Review: Purchased Nero based on positive reviews. Installed on IBM Netvista with Windows XP Pro - program never worked, always failed in CD burn process by freezing computer. Worked with tech support (e-mail) for 8 weeks. All they could tell me was to uninstall and reinstall, no real effort to fix the problem was apparent. Tries to do everything, but ends up capable of nothing. Look for another product.

The BEST, bar none!!

Pros: Great burning program, fantastic extras - Nero Recode is unsurpassed

Cons: A few bugs that Nero keeps working out.

Review: Not sure what others keep ranting about on the problems with NERO. Smacks of people who didn't read the manual or take the time to learn this program. Have been using Nero since version 5 and have loved it. This version has done EVERYTHING I have thrown at it. Nero Recode does an excellent job of remastering unencrypted dvd filed from a dual layer disc onto a single layer dvd (with amazingly little loss of quality!). Great for making backups. Their other tools are interesting, but haven't used all of them yet. Haven't burned a 'coaster' yet with Nero.

Kudos for Nero making (what many testers/reviewers say is) the Best burning program on the planet!!

User Rating: 1/10

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME

Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: Software and tech support

Review: After spending more than 12 hours on a project, I cannot burn the DVD due to a RECURRING Nero internal error. I'm now back to square one.

Tech support via email is free; however, tech support via phone is $1.29/minute (this must be where they make their money).

Tech support did not resolve the issue.

Junkware, can't burn my Home movies to disc, nothing seems to work with nero

Pros: none that I can see

Cons: can"t figure out how to solve all the error messages it gives

Review: I want to burn copies of home vids I have saved on my Hdisk, nero won't do it, or I am unable to figure out how. Junkware, came installed on a new machine, its off now , looking for aomething that works

User Rating: 6/10

Pros: great features, fast and user-friendly

Cons: error messages of incompat, for Win XP altho it works

Review: I would like to know if this was handled. I run Windowsxp sp2 and am a professiona musician. i alreadyown nero 6 and would love to use it.

User Rating: 2/10

Junk. Bloatware. Copyright after the fact? Read below.

Pros: You can change to pretty colors of the interface.

Cons: Copyright? Nero steps over the line...again

Review: It is none of Ahead Nero's business if I want to make a back up of my purchased programs and/or music CD's. They wrote some code that checks the CD you are backing up and it tells you it is copyrighted AFTER you burned the disc, thus, making the disc a coaster. This software is useless JUNK.

User Rating: 8/10

Smooth Operator

Pros: Does it all, easily!

Cons: If you don't walk the walk, don't

Review: This slick competitor of Roxio is really doing it's homework with a well honed piece of authoring and editing software. For the price it has most of what you would want, but doesn't give the problems Roxio can present, getting into your system and taking over...Not only are the Nero DVD Authoring and Copying Utilites the absolute BOMB!! DVD Re-Code can fit those nasty double-sided DVD's onto a single 4.7gb DVD with hardly any noticeable degradation of quality. But if you HAVE to spend $6 on a Double Layer DVD, it can swing that as well, no problemo aqui senor... I really dig the Nero Mixer, a simple little utility that can fade-in/outs with a mix/compilation or just compilate right on the spot, recode to your desired format, you go bro!! Just plain and simple..and although like all us guys, we like to tinker, well this will let you enjoy both worlds, go Novice or brain-dead, you got the option.... so go for it dudes and dudettes, burn out now!! Ciao

Overly complex, poor documentation and help

Pros: Decent CD burner

Cons: Poor documentation, overly complex, over reliance on wizards, other components sloppy

Review: Nero 6 can burn your CDs reasonably reliably, but it is overly complicated to use in many situations. Documentation has not kept up with the software, particularly on the packages other than the burner.

A lot of reliance on wizards that box you in on some of the packages. Even the burner software seems to try to know better what you want than you do.

Bugs in the Nerovision Express and in NeroMix. Video exporting formats limited. Frustrating to use - I went back to WindowsMovieMaker.

Frequent updates available on their web site, but involve very large downloads - complete packages, not incremental builds. (That's fine on highspeed, but I am sure glad I am not on dial-up.)

Package looks better on paper than what is delivered - I guess we get what we pay for. (It's like we are back in the early 90's with featuritis driving competition between packages - who has the most boxes checked off?)

The CD/DVD burner is a decent program, but if all you want is a burner look for something cheaper. The rest of the utilities have been more frustrating than they are worth.

I am still looking for a decent, reasonably priced DV editor.

Too many screens to do simple tasks

Pros: I'll let you know when I find any

Cons: Interface sluggish and too 'friendly'

Review: Look I just want to burn CDs, there are like 5 program screens that pop-up to burn a disc. After completing a burn and selecting "Exit" ANOTHER dialog comes up and asks "What do you want to do" HELLO - HOW ABOUT EXIT. Although the program does burn CD/DVD - others can too with alot less handholding. Please dump the Fischer-Price interface. Also I DO NOT like the fact it refuses to burn a video VOB file from my harddrive if it suspects the file includes copy protection. Again - just burn the disc - I don't want a traffic cop.

But Hey the box is sure a really pretty shade of red!

Great, reliable software, though a little complicated

Pros: It can copy onto most formats, compatible with many dvd burners, frequent updates. Ability to recode into Divx and mpeg4. Plenty of features, though some may say too many. Very frequent updates though again this can be seen as a bad point as you never see

Cons: I can remember Nero being an extremely easy to use program that could copy everything without any hassle.. however ahead has added far too many features to the software and it has become to complicated too use. Just when you think you know how to do it, s

Pros: I use this program just to burn dvd's. It works great, has not failed yet. It does not seem to bog my machine down, and I haven't noticed anything unusual since I installed it. I uninstalled it off another machine, and it uninstalls cleanly.

Cons: It is said a number of the applications bundled with this package are troublesome. Personally I don't know since I don't use them. If you just want to burn dvd's, you can't go wrong with this product.
