Does in fact handle DivX and MOV files
Pros: Does in fact handle DivX and MOV files, like the Nero Home
Cons: None yet, so far so good
Have been a big Nero fan and registered user for a long time. Had a hard time trying to find out if Nero 7 would handle DivX and MOV files because most reviews are not very technical, the Nero website does not list compatable file formats, and the box in the stores do not list compatable file formats. So, I downloaded the trial version which uninstalled my registered version of 6.5x, and found that it will in fact import DivX files. In addition, though MOV files are not listed in the dialogue box when importing files, if you select ALL, it will import MOV (quicktime) files such as those from my Kodak camera. I don't know if DivX and MOV files are "native" to Nero, but I have registered DivX and QuickTime Pro (paid $$ to register them). Therefore, I am quite happy with the upgrade to Nero 7 Ultra and will be registering it shortly.
Not sure why there are so many negative reviews of this product. Yes, it may be large and resource intensive, but computers, memory, and hard disk storage is cheap, perhaps it is time to upgrade some systems out there.

Through further use of Nero 7 Ultra (original review posted 06 Jun 2007), I am even happier with it. Namely, when opening a saved project *.nvc file, which cannot locate your media files, perhaps because you have moved the *.nvc file and media to a removeable drive, Nero will prompt you to browse to the location of the media and then opens the file so you can edit. The previous version of Nero did not do this and thus you could only open the *.nvc file from its original location and the media had to be in the original location.

Pretty good deal for me
Pros: comprehensive features and options, and better than most
Cons: some applications do seem buggy and slow
For compiling and copying data and media, my experience is that Nero 7 works well, at least as well as Nero 6 and much better than several other commercial alternatives. Showtime is a fairly good video player, and I like the tools that come with the suite.
I've never found Nero to be very good for recoding and editing video. Nero Vision on my PC is slow and in some ways difficult to use. It does work, though, and others I've tried simply have not. Nero apparently has given up on the update feature in version 7, though. It never worked, and for every update I've had to manually download a gargantuan godzilla of a single installation file, and reinstall the entire huge program.
I've not tried getting support on the product, so I can't comment on the horror stories about that.
In sum, I'm reasonably satisfied with it. I've tried quite a few alternatives, and except for some freeware limited to one or two functions, I haven't encountered anything better. I wonder if some of the problems users describe might arise from conflicts with other applications and/or drivers on their systems, or from quirky issues that always seem to go along with various media burners and their firmware, which apparently are ultra-sensitive to slight variables in software and hardware configuration. I've found some of the popular CD and DVD user forums helpful for such issues and troubleshooting, if you can deal with the attitude....

Least usable product EVER
Pros: The disc burning feature is adequate
Cons: Most apps are unusable beacause of UI
Nero Home - You will regret even starting it. I'm guessing Nero was trying to make this for MCPCs but If you bought a Media Center PC you got WinMC which way better than this.
Nero Vision - This was the reason I bought this abomination but I have serious doubts whether anyone could make this app work. The UI is a tragedy. I worked with this app for a solid week and didn't get 2 seconds of video out of it.
Wave Editor - Another UI failure. Probably the second least usable app after Vision.
Nero Recode - It will fail to open about 50% of DVD movies. And when it does finally appear to work the DVD might not play. Wrote to Nero after it failed numerous times. "The program may not make a playable disc even when successful." They call a non-playable disc a success?
Photosnap - works but does so little you won't use it. You probably got something better for free with your camera.
Showtime - Oh a media player. Whoopee. Ok it's probably the most reliable and functional app in the entire suite but it's just a media player. I had a free one that worked as well.

Major disappointment
Pros: Nothing that I can think of
Cons: Not only is this product buggy, but it's slow too
Nero Vision is horribly implemented, and the DVD menu options underwhelming and in some cases (like the user interface) bizarrely designed. Bugs and just plain bad design are everywhere.
Burning ROM still works, but now mysteriously takes an inexplicably long time just for the splash screen to show up, and then has obvious bugs like the "Time remaining" info being way off.
The BackItUP utility crashed on me every time I tried to use it, so no luck there.
All the other new features seemed like a waste of time to me, especially SmartStart which does nothing to simplify picking a feature to launch vs the Windows Start menu.
Ahead stretched themselves too thin on this one. Instead of doing so many half-baked features of arguable usefulness, they should have focused on fewer features and making sure they're solid.

this is an overbloated cow full of bugs.. don't bother with this.. get roxi easy creator 9 or CONVERTXTODVD. This product is streamlined and easy to use and only takes 2 / 2.5 hours to convert and burn dvds...

Very little functionality that I would use in Nero7 over the Nero5 I already had.
Pros: its a burner
Cons: external managed license to hardware, some components crash often
I probably didnt need a whole suete of apps that I paid for.
Some components are demo only (mpeg4 stuff) require additional cost.
Be aware, sellers advertised upgrade rebate that cant be used from OEM versions of Nero that came with your drive, luckily I read the fine print before buying.
NeroVision converts mpg->dvd, not bad (after SmartEncoding is disabled so audio stays in sync) but too slow (10hrs) to be used on my video recording platform and affects background recordings, but all components are registered to one machine so I can't offload the NeroVision task to an external pc that can run it in 2hrs without moving the burner to that pc and transferring the license and leaving my Video record/play box without a DVD drive.
I suppose I am belly aching over a license issue, but where oh where did my $80 go?
Some products crash frequently or randomly so you have to save your editing often and redo work.
Their update system keeps you with the latest patches when it works.

Refund is my best advice
Pros: I honestly do like Nero Showtime-2 for viewing DVD movies....Sleek look, crystal clear video and sound and a host of user options to tailor the look and feel of it all.
Cons: The Nero 7 software "update" feature is useless.....
I should have listened to the reviews....How Nero, supposedly the most trusted name in this market can put out such a bug ridden application is beyond me.

DON'T BUY THIS SOFTWARE
Pros: Lots of features - a total mess
Cons: No intelligible connection between modules - inconsistant design between modules - terrible integration
The machine came with a basic DVD burner (cyberlink MakeDVD) which works and makes credible DVDs in very reasonable times. But it has no editor so I though I would upgrade to something better, and why not get the best (I thought).
Unfortunately I had not read the user reviews. The average is 4 out of 10 but I notice the high rollers are people who simply say "People who rate this low just don't know how to use it." No other comments and no profile.
Sounds like that is a PLANT COMMENT from NERO. The average user rates it 2 or 3. I agree. I tried to bring it back but "no returns on opened software." So I am stuck with it.
So far I have made one very poor DVD of something that came out fine on MakeDVD. It was choppy and noisy. Maybe it is so advanced that your need an advanced degree in software operation to get results but I have had years of PC experience and I can tell you this is terrible software.
And I don't know where the CNET reviewer got his rating of 8. He comments about the added features and lists a few cons but I doubt he or she actually tried to use it.
P.S. I locks up my PC very often. Almost no other application locks up that PC.
That really points to bad software. If software is really bad it is impossible to write a useful help file. I am a retired engineering technical writer!
This software was apparently rushed to faulty completion because of Roxio's release of Creator 9.
It is completely buggy and doesn't work. Likewise the Cnet reviewer seems to be in with the Nero staff. The 8 rating is nonsense. Have you ever seen so many "1" ratings.
Also check out the profiles of the rave fans. They don't have profiles - what does that tell you?
Even if it works - somehow - trying to figure out how is not worth any amount.
DON'T GO NEAR IT.
Hooray, I have finally got Nero 7 to do what it claims to do best. It is really spectacular and burns like a star. The secret is using it properly.
If you want to see Nero 7 burn then put it in your fireplace. It burns beautifully (except for the black smoke).
I guess burning garbage has its downside, but the beauty of it is the satisfaction of never having to see it again.
P.S. as a farewell insult, it corrupted my OS and I am still debugging it!
NERO POST-MORTEM
If you removed NERO 7 from your machine and still are getting strange error messages from NERO - that is because uninstalling NERO 7 the proper way only removes the shortcuts in the Programs Menu and maybe on the desktop. It DOES NOT remove the program or any of the registry entries.
I kept getting an error when I tried to do any video work with other video software. Nero 7 is like a cockroach ? it bugs up your PC. The Nero error message can be killed by clicking OK several times only to be followed by more messages. It also ruined the ability of my NEW VIDEO PROCESSING (see my review of the AVS video software suite) software to work properly.
When I looked in the "Program Files" directory all the Nero 7 software was still there. So I thoroughly removed all of the directories with the Nero name. But I continued to get the error message. Then (in desperation) I used REGEDIT and found all instances of the word "nero." I found several hundred references to "nero" all of which I removed (one at a time). It looks like I finally killed it. I am currently processing a video file in AVS with no hitches.
NOTE: Be sure you know what you are doing if you edit your registry and make a copy of it first.
PLEASE SEE MY REVIEW OF AVS video suite. It is the antithesis of Nero 7. Great stuff.

Hello,
Back in August of 2006 I wanted to upgrade my Nero 6 OEM version to Nero 6 Ultra edition. On you website it offered an upgrade to Nero 7 Ultra as well, so I paid for that version upgrade. I just now got around to using Nero 7 this week, and it freezes up my computer every time I try to add files to an existing data CD. The software does not seem to work properly. I looked on the web and found numerous negative comments about version 7, and most folks said that they preferred using Nero 6.
My question is, how do I credit my Nero 7 purchase to go backward and get a copy of Nero 6 Ultra instead? I called the US customer support number, and they were less than helpful. They told me that they could not point me to a download site to get Nero 6, and they said they could not generate a Nero 6 serial number for me.
I have already paid for your software, which does not work properly. How do I proceed? Do I need to request a re-fund of my money and stop using your software?
Or can you simply give me a Nero 6 Ultra serial number and a download site?
My order number was xxxxxxxx the date was August 28, 2006 from nero-onlineshop@nero.com
Please resolve this as soon as possible. I would really rather continue using Nero products, but NOT version 7.
Sincerely,
Mark Carvalho,

Thank you for the quick response.
To answer your questions:
I was burning Data CDs. I needed to add more data, so I burned the second session, and the message progress said burn was successful, but the program would freeze the computer at this point and I had to shut it down and cold boot to restart windows. This happened several times. Each time, the first session burn would work correctly, and the second would freeze the computer.
Attached are the two files you requested.
Thank you,
-Mark Carvalho
Since my first experiences, upon other occasions, it froze the machine even on the first burn.

I had already downloaded and installed the latest version of Nero7 when the problems occurred.

Please send me a valid Nero 6 serial number, and a download site from which I may download Nero 6 Ultra edition.

I do not wish to purchase version 6... I ALREADY paid for the software. I just require a valid Nero 6 serial number. Nero 7 DOES NOT WORK on my machine.
This is a very poor way to run a business. Making an inferior product and then relying on your "customers" to de-bug it for you is inexcusable. I am very disappointed. I feel you have taken my money fraudulently. I will never use nor recommend Nero software ever again.
Please pass this on to your higher up manager. This is very poor marketing and sales.

Simone,
You are factually correct, and you have obviously not been understanding the entirety of my emails. I told you that I was upgrading an OEM version of Nero 6, when I decided (based on the fine performance of version 6) to upgrade. I saw at that time that Version 7 was being offered for upgrade, so rather than upgrade to Version 6 Ultra, I decided (based on the fine performance of version 6) to jump right to Version 7.
I did not spend the time using a demo version of 7 prior to upgrading, because I assumed (wrongly) that any new version would obviously work as well if not better than an old version. As you are well aware, THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I know that you are aware that version 7 has MAJOR problems. If you are not, all you need do is Google Nero 7 problems, and you will get many responses from your dissatisfied customers (of which I am now unfortunately a member).
You certainly have the ability and technology to give me a valid serial number for version 6 ultra. I do not understand why you will not take the initiative to help a paying customer? Do you really think that I will be able to continue using Nero 7 when I have TOLD you that it FREEZES up my computer. How can I continue to use it? IT DOES NOT WORK on my machine.
Please sit back and consider the problem from my point of view. I paid for software that I cannot now use. You have the ability to help me by enabling me to use an older product (of yours) that DOES work on my computer... Why won't you simply help me? Why are you behaving this way toward your user base?
Please reconsider.
Hopefully yours,
-Mark

I weary of trying to say this... I DO NOT WANT A REFUND! I WANT A VERSION 6 ULTRA SERIAL NUMBER.
I know that you have the capability of generating old serial numbers, for I have worked in the software industry for years, and I know that this is how software is produced.
I also know from experience that this kind of obtuse behavior is what causes good companies to decline. To take the attitude that "we have your money, we don't have to care..." is the height of hubris. It is a shame when successful companies forget how they became successful: through loyal customers.
Alas, I guess I will be forced into searching for another means to obtain a serial number to operate software for which I lawfully paid real money.
Yours very frustrated,
-Mark
Ps. Rest assured that I will tell everyone I know about my unhappy experience in dealing with your company. I will strongly discourage anyone from upgrading to your "newest" product ever again.

This product does not work! BEWARE!
Pros: Nice packaging.
Cons: Doesn't work. Can't burn CDs or author DVDs.
After burning a CD, the software hangs with an empty window, and the ONLY way to shut it down is to reboot the computer - Windows Task Manager cannot close the app. This problem was repeatable - it happened EVERY time I tried to burn a CD.
I was unable to author a DVD using this software - I would always get "Burn Process Failed".
I uninstalled the Nero software and bought Roxio Easy Media Creator yesterday, and I have been able to author DVDs and burn CDs with no problem.

Very Unimpressive
Pros: Nothing comes to mind
Cons: Slow,, inaccurate, poor video
The WAV aditor crashes at regular intervals and can't handle large tracks; the zoom function ***********.
The vido is one of the worst I've seen, giving a green line around most tracks.
I like the adio on the Nero 6, with its graphic equaliser but they have done away with this on the 7 and although the playback is fairly good, I still prefer something I can amend for each track.

Who dreams up this horror?
Pros: Still has the simple Nero interface.
Cons: Buggy, no divx support, kept crashing, for me everything.
The 7.5 edition could not close a dvd-video properly. The Nero back-up feature kept crashing. so I uninstalled the product. After doing so my computer was acting erractically. I could not right click on any start menu items, could not access the internet, and led me to a complete re-format.
Henceforth the rating of 2. If I have to spend hours re-formatting my PC; then the product is not worth a good rating and really should be labeled as "beta"
I am happy to say though, that after I re-installed my OS and programs, I went over to Roxio EMC 8. Everything works perfectly and not one computer problem.
So long Ahead software, this time I think you really got way "Ahead" of yourselves.

There should be a ZERO in the rating scale
Pros: Concepts used have potential
Cons: None of the concepts work correctly!
Thank god for the Internet because without reviews from REAL end-users - thousands of people might actually buy this crap. I read 3 or 4 reviews in leading computer magazines all praising this product just weeks after the initial release. I was suckered into buying it last week - almost a year later - and THOUGHT that the problems I had read about in various forums and newsgroups MUST have been solved by now. But I still would not categorize this software as fitable for a beta release (or even an alpha!)
What I want to know is how these so called "professional" writers - can write gleaming reviews of a product that is so blatantly flawed???? Either there is some back-scratching going on here with the folks at Nero, or these guys aren't actually installing and using the product. (Sort of like me, back in my high school days - using Cliffnotes to write a book review for a book I never even read! LOL)
I am totally disgusted and feel like I've "been had". DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE or you WILL be sorry.

What a useless product!
Pros: I can burn CD's fairly quickly, and occasionally play DVD's.
Cons: I can't burn DVD's, or upgrade. Bug ridden.
It takes up way to much memory and does next to nothing that it says on the box. Except for quickly burning CD's and playing DVD's with the player in Nero Home (that I found by accident), it's useless. It won't acknowledge my LG DVD burner drive either.
To make matters worse, I can't even upgrade Nero 7. All I get from their website after Nero Product setup fails to work (another bug), is a 125 MB+ demo. That is really useful guys. Not.
If I can delete this, I am downgrading to my previous version which I never had problems with.

Is CNET reviewing the same stuff we are?
Pros: Lots of stuff for encoding just about anything....
Cons: Bugs and glitches that can make it worthless.
As I'm writing this I've just gone through an uninstall and reinstall to see if I had inadvertently corrupted the application with my broken Kodak Easyshare video files. Yeah I know, that sounds funny. Online research revealed that an update was needed to fix numerous bugs. Good one Jim. I usually research the stuff I buy, but this time I figured a good name like Nero was enough. I paid $80 bucks for it at Staples. Get this, I live in California. When I clicked on the button to be taken to the Nero home page from the application I was taken to the Spanish version. Yes, the demographics of my state are changing but....
Next, I clicked on product update util. inside the application per website instructions and bing badda boom Windows had to shut the app. down due to unknown error. Are you beginning to see the pattern. Tried it again, same thing. No, I'm not reporting it to MS.
So here I am after downloading the approximately 130mb file, clicked the run button and whamo, ?the currently installed version of Nero7 is incompatible with this installer. It must be uninstalled... blah blah blah?. At this point I'm a bit ticked. All I was trying to do was get Nero to stop encoding my video files at 25fps, (PAL),. It defaults to PAL under certain uses and forces the user to reset to 29.97. I'm not the only one who was bit this way. Under other circumstances it won't let me change it at all!!! I don't give a rats @ss which is better! Also, it would grey out codec choices forcing a restart of the app.
I'll leave another review after the update to be fair but I still felt that these problems were too crazy to not pass along. Nero, hope your update fixes said bugs or I'll move on to another app, for my needs, permanently.

They lost me on the license key...
Pros: The box is pretty...
Cons: Had to find a different license key to install because my label was misprinted
For anyone who has the same license key issue I had, the website's example serial number starts "1C80". The serial number on my copy starts "C82". The first character was missing. I guess it was supposed to be "1", but I entered "I" and it worked.
After the install completed I tested things out by burning a CD and a DVD and both tasks worked perfectly. I like how the process of burning the media and creating labels works.
For anyone who's had problems, maybe you should try installing on a clean machine or checking your hardware compatibility. Software companies can't be held responsible if your environment is a mess. There's no reasonable way to plan for everything you could have on your computer.

Works PERFECTLY for me! I LOVE it!
Pros: Tons of great apps, very easy to use!
Cons: Some apps are a bit sluggish, nero scout confusing
I had several videos in .avi format that transcoded and burned perfectly to DVD. Now I can enjoy all my favorite shows in my living room.
I also love the slideshow feature. I contemplated buying Photoshop Elements separately, but I am perfectly satisfied with the features included in Nero's version. It has good transitions, audio, easily burns to DVD, and the ability to add a menu. That's all I need.
The one thing I found confusing was Nero scout. While I understand what it is doing, I just don't really see the need for it. I guess it makes it easier to search for media files, but photos are really only searchable by date unless you phyically change the name of every picture you upload. Who the heck has time for that? It is helpful when looking for mp3's though. The indexing on Nero Scout also takes a long time. It runs in the background and took a couple days for it to index my huge library of music and photos.
My only other minor complaint is that the transcoding process can take a long time. I transcoded some .avi files and the whole burn process took around two hours. This is pretty common with most burning software so I don't really fault Nero for this.
All in all, I HIGHLY recommend Nero 7. It is well worth every penny.

Great Multimedia Package
Pros: Burns Slideshows to DVDs that ACTUALLY play on players
Cons: VCD's were not recoginized in any DVD player
The create and burn slide show option to a DVD that can be played on a DVD player worked FLAWLESSLY. It was very user friendly and I am very happy with the purchase.
Nero currently retails for $99 like its chief competitor, Roxio which is also $99. But Best Buy has Nero for $49 and even has another $20 rebate if you previously use a full version of Nero or a version of competing software. $29 for this suite is a steal.
Cannot rave enough about how easy it was to produce a DVD multimedia project, burn it and have it work perfectly.
This is one user that says, forget those negative scores, for the money, Nero has a winner here.

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF
Pros: NOTHING - THE FIRST PRODUCT WITHOUT PROS
Cons: EVERYTHING - THE FIRST PRODUT WITH ONLY CONS
a- I downloaded it: no help files, apparently to keep the download size small; imagine, they keep 30 megs off from a 200 meg download to speed up things; HEY NERO, THIS IS 2006 AND WE ALL USE ADSL SO WHAT'S THE REAL REASON? Instead you have to download the help files one by one, TALK ABOUT SAVING DOWNLOAD TIME, and of course separate downloads add up to far more download time wasted, AND THERE ARE HELP FILES MISSING ON THE NERO SITE, so you look at InCD or SmartStart and there is no help, GREAT JOB NERO, HOW ARE THESE THINGS WORKING? and the ones that are available you have to download, then figure out BY YOURSELF how to add the help modules BECAUSE THERE IS NO HELP FILE TO TELL YOU HOW TO DO IT, then it doesn't work because you need to unblock them in WinXP, then you have to copy them over to EACH APPLICATION'S FOLDER SEPARATELY; in the end, the whole help file bit takes at least one hour if you know what you are doing and, since I was new to this garbage, four hours; THANKS FOR WASTING MY TIME, NERO
b- you realize why, contrary to all other companies in this field, Nero does not have a user forum: THEIR USERS ARE ALL SO PISSED OFF, A FORUM WOULD TELL THE WHOLE WORLD WHAT A ******-UP PRODUCT THIS IS;
c- I believed I'd get top-of-the-art software, after all I had still used Nero5 until now, together with a few free and shareware proggies I had downloaded from here; guess what, all that hi-priced stuff in Nero 7 is in half the cases only barely as good as the sharewares I use AND THEY WERE CHEAPER AND HAD HELP FILES;
d- their support stinks big time: you get standard answers that do not apply, their help is ridiculously incompetent (what can they do, admit they cover a inept product?) - I stop here, had enough of this.
I'm pissed off enough as is so I stop writing, but believe me I could go on.
KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF NERO7.

Good ideas...Bad product
Pros: This program has many of the good features from NERO 6 ULTRA plus a few worthy extras.
Cons: Hastily released. Poorly executed. Not compatible with all graphics cards.
When you load up files to record to CD in .wav, the files will not load in order. Even if numbered, they may load in correctly; but, they will record randomly! I have to use Roxio 7.5 to burn .wav CDs from files.
I have asked for a refund from NERO since the upgrade from NERO 6.6 is not an improvement (with the latest NERO 7 updates as of the end of April 27th, 2006). No refund. The program may eventually be everything NERO claims it to be; but, for the time being it doesn't quite cut the mustard. BTW, NERO shows all the graphics cards that are compatible on their website. Search it out and you will be surpirsed how many AREN'T THERE.

I have used Nero7 for 3 months and LOVE it.
Pros: Lots of abilities, never a useless burning session.
Cons: some parts are pretty complicated and I have yet to learn to use them--mostly because I am not into video recording/editing.
I use my Nero 7 (as I did my previous verion of Nero) for photos, music and data--I have only used DVD burning once for a restore disc and since it is the first and only time I have used DVD burning capabilities surprisingly enough the disc worked fine in a catastrophy!.
I have no problems with 'bugs' that are provided with 'fixes'. I usually wait for a couple of months (longer with operating systems) before buying a new product--giving the publisher time to do bug fixes! In my experience buying a product shortly after it is released is a guarnatee of buggy softwear!.
I have recomended Nero 7 to several friends who were having problems with their copys of another highly rated burning softwear and they were far happier with Nero7.

IMHO Nero 7 is great, I take the views of those who've had problems with a pinch of salt
Pros: FULLY featured, top burn performance, reliable, attractive (if you like that sort of thing), v7.0.1.2 onwards seems to have fixed most, if not all bugs
Cons: Probably too many features that other dedicated programs do better (backup, TV, Music player), early versions WERE buggy
I was delighted with my upgrade. I burned 18 single layer, compressed (to ~65% of the normal) DVDs. No coasters and up to 4 minutes quicker than I was used to. About a dozen CDs were burned without any problems, tho' it was hard to see increased performance. I tried a DVD-audio. No probs. A large MP3 archive on CD and DVD. Again, no problems. Everything was tested in my standalone DVD player, my trusty old Hi-Fi and my car's cd changer.
I really think that many of the users thyat have complained so bitterly about this product need to take a look at how they are using the product, what version they have (try downloading fixes!) ans the HW they are using it on. Have a look at reviews of Nero 6 Ultra Edition - there are a lot of "terribles" for that too. A poor workman always blames his tools.
In fairness though, early versions were buggy, and if a user upgraded too early they could have ended up with a few problems. This is the case for a lot of large software packages out there. I didn't upgrade to 7 myself until the furore died down. I waited 'til SP2 to upgrade to XP and I waited for a while to upgrade to Office2003 aswell. I'll even wait for a good while b4 I go for Vista (if it ever gets finished!).
If you're thinking about upgrading to Nero 7 but are put off by the reviews, don't be. Go for the latest stable version available (at least v7.0.1.2 - I have v7.0.1.4) and be prepared to do some tweaking if need be. It's a big app and you could run into some incompatabilities.
I'm giving it 8 because it's got too many bells and whistles. I like my software lean and fast.

CREATING PICTURE SLIDESHOWS and DVD COMPATIBILITY
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: DVD video compatibility
With my first trip to Europe, niece wedding, and 4 birthday parties, in the next 6 months, I decided to upgrade my 2002 2MP camera. From the beginning my goal was to produce a DVD-video slideshow, which could be copied and sent out to family and friends. A high priority was a camera which could also take avi movies. This compromise would save me from dragging around both a camera and a camcorder. And I have seen to many family camcorder video tapings, which after 10 minutes, the same material gets boring! My other must priority is simple to use, and fast results.
SELECTING A NEW CAMERA: CANON POWERSHOT A610
I started my search with http://www.steves-digicams.com/, then moved to http://www.dcviews.com/ for the clearinghouse of all camera reviews. I purchased, after an in-depth, search, the CANON POWERSHOT A610 5MP camera, and have been very happy. One note, the reviews say the A610/A620 do not zoom while filming, this is incorrect! They can zoom in&out while filming! I also purchased a 2Gb 133x memory dimm. I set my resolution to 2048x1536, and video to 320x240 at 30fps. 15fps is to jerky. A 2gb can produce a 60 min slideshow, encoded set to the highest quality.
PICTURE?s TOUCH-UP: ADOBE Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0
Of the 4 birthday parties I have averaged a min of 100 jpg pictures and 10 avi files. All the BD parties have started in the afternoon and ended late at night. I have pictures taken with daylight to incandescent. I also have the redeye fix turned off to speed up the shutter, due to fast motion of small kids. For redeye and occasional incandescent touchup, I wanted a program which could go through a large number files fast and easy. To many programs make it a big deal to open, select , then open the tools, then save, etc. Also a few programs will save the jpg file to a different jpg resolution! I am now using ADOBE Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0, and it?s free by download. Another good freebie is MAGIX PHOTO MANAGER. The other programs I tried are Canon Utilites, Fuji Viewer, PhotoDeluxe HomeED, Camedia Master, MS Picture It, ArcSoft Photo Studio, HP Photo Printing, Photo FX, and MGI Photo Suite.
CREATING MPEG SLIDESHOWS: EMC 7.5 VIDEOWAVE
I reviewed NERO 7, Movie Factory 4, Vegas Movie Studio 6, Premiere Elements 2, Pinnacle Studio 9, EMC 7.5 and 8. For me, I selected EMC 7.5 over 8. Again, simple and fast results are my priorities. I like EMC 7.5 ability to open a folder, then you can click and drag the jpg or avi file into the slideshow. This is a big time saver for putting together a slideshow. I was surprise how many programs separate opening stills files versus video files. I mix stills and video to create my slideshows. For those doing a lot of audio mixing, check out Vegas Movie Studio.
BURNING DVD-VIDEO for COMPATIBILITY: GEAR VIDEO 8
Being a computer geek for 25 years, I am use to compatibility issues for new technology. This was no different, but still frustrating. After producing, burning and copying my first EMC slideshow, I received phone calls of ?disc errors. Like everyone else, I started reading forums like ROXIO?s EMC, http://forums.afterdawn.com/ , and http://forum.videohelp.com/viewforum.php?f=30 on how to DVD AUTHOR. I appreciate everyone comments about buying the best media and burners, but I remember the compatibility issues we had with CD?s as the technology matured. Yes the media quality was a factor, but the burning software and burning speed had a greater effect on compatibility. So my compatibility testing focused on the software, 4X burn speed, using cheap DVDs and a cheap burner.
My computer is a HP/COMPAQ SR1514NX with Sempron 3100 1.8Ghz, with 384Mb usable memory (128Mb out of 512Mb dedicated to onboard video). At the end of my testing I still have 30Gb of free hard disc space. My burner is a Fry?s EMPREX DRW1108UI external USB. My DVDs are Frys?s GQ 16X+R, qty 50 for $10.50, and COMPUSA (PRINCO) 4X-R, qty 100 for $20.
I have now burned 51 DVD-Videos, (with the same mpeg files). I have tried 48 DVDs in 9 different DVD (TV) Players. Of all the family members DVD (TV) Players, the Samsung 511 was the most difficult, and the best was a Sony SLV D500P, it played all burned DVDs.
On all my burns I added my mpeg files to the menu, then saved to a physical ISO file. Then burn from the physical ISO image file. I have burned the following: +R at its 16X and 4X speeds, the -R at 4X, menus using the standard image supplied, imported jpg & bmp still pictures for menu images and selected auto play with no menu, if available. Players were Samsung, Toshiba, RCA, LG, Magnavox and Sony.
My recommendation for compatibility across different DVD players:
Use -R media and burn at 4X speed
Use a Menu versus auto-play. All Auto play had some compatibility issue.
If importing a picture for the menu image, first convert to bmp. Jpg had compatibility issues.
Save to computer a physical ISO image file, then burn ISO image to disc
BEST SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY with no burn failure or issues was GEAR VIDEO 8 http://gearsoftware.com (free trial ware). All DVDs burned were successful, (NO failures) and every DVD-Video played in every machine. The only negative comment I have is, it?s not the easiest to use. I do not recommend it as the first and only software for a beginner. If I had not used the other programs first, I would not have understood some of their terms and actions. On the plus side they do a have a User forum, US(Florida) phone support and do answer the phone. Program also does audio. The negatives are no choice for auto play of no menu, and you have to close the program and reopen to load a ISO(dvi) physical image file after its creation from its folders.
My second recommendation for COMPATIBILITY, and first choice for a beginner is Pegasus Tsunami (TMPGEnc) DVD AUTHOR 1.6 (not Pro)) http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html. The negatives are #1) DVD AUTHOR was the only software to fail during the disc burning process, 3 bad burns, (51-3=48 disc), #2) the auto play with no menu, played in the Samsung 511, but failed in 3 of the 9 DVD players, tested #3) lack of phone support and user forum,
EMC 7.5, NERO 7, ULEAD Movie Factory 4, SONY Vegas Movie Studio 6, Pinnacle Studio 9, all had some compatibility failures across the 9 DVD players.
All 4 Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 DVDs did play in all 9 players but I disliked PE2 for the following reasons: 1) played at a lower resolution(?) and I did select the highest quality, 2) it took 3.5 hours to create the physical ISO image file (versus all others took 60-90 minutes) and 3) while doing so it beat up my system, like no other software program. It was very memory hunger, causing my system to consistently use the hard disc as virtual memory, and CPU usage never dropped below 98%. For the first time I was actually worried my system may over heat.

Do not buy or install this!
Pros: I wish I could find some...
Cons: Everything I've managed to get to work is a HUGE disapointment and WASTE OF TIME and money
I followed the link in the email confirmation about how to install it. Nowhere did they give the option to install a fresh version; only over the demo version. So I installed that, DOH!
After at least three failed install attempts and reboots, I finally got it to "install", of course having had to uninstall the "working" OEM version first. It conveniently installed itself in my C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temp\NeroDemo9672 folder. Huh?
I managed to set up and run a full backup of my regular files and then created a differential which, which of course when I ran it, did a FULL BACKUP! I tried creating another, with the same result, except that the job disappeared from the list of jobs. After a reboot, it mysteriously reappeared. I tried running that, and when I realized that it too was doing a full backup, I tried to cancel it. DOH!
After many minutes of "please waiting" I tried to shut down the machine from the XP "Start" menu. DOH again! The disk just kept on spinning. Some how I managed to get it to stop (lots of expletives have been removed here) and then had to use the power button.
I haven't even bothered or had time to explore the new feechurs of this so called "product" I had hoped to use, nor I have received anything but their automated reply to my request for help.
I have wasted so much time trying to get this to work and have lost the version that was working, that I guess I'll have to look into, and probably pay for, an alternative product that actually does what it claims.
Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Having had Roxio 8 Crash Numerous Times Writing a DVD Data Disc, Nero 7 is a Breath of Fresh Air
Pros: Solid CD/DVD Burning, Stable
Cons: DVD Authoring is Limited
Roxio's on the other hand, were very positive. So, I decided to go with Roxio. I had used Roxio 7.5 previously, and ran into a major problem when burning a data DVD (a rather important one - contained all my driver backups and downloads).
After having Roxio 8 crash, lock-up, screw up several discs, it was time for an alternative.
Nero has always been a more powerful burning suite, but with a steep learning curve.
So far, I haven't run into any problems - everything burns correctly. I've only played with the DVD authoring tools, and find them o.k, but not as extensive as Roxio.

Nero 7 Ultra Edition not ready for prime time
Pros: The back up features work good.
Cons: The updates are treated as Demo Versions
I have just installed the latest update of Nero 7 and it is just as bad as it was 10 months ago even though they have had many updates. It still is not compatible with a very popular Capture Card - ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro
This is the answer I got from Ahead. "A BDA driver is a driver which can be used by most digital capture cards. This allows us to implement all capture cards to Nero 7 which are using this without adding every by hand. Unfortunately your capture card is not supported by Nero 7 and I´m relly sorry for that." Here was my reply; "Well I don't understand, I have used this capture card for 2 1/2 years through Nero 5.5, 6.0 and some of Nero 7.0 versions with good success.
With that previous experience why would I even have considered to check its capability with your most recent update of Nero 7.5. The capture card hasn't changed, and the computer hasn't changed, but the only thing that has changed is your software that once worked just fine on my
computer and because your company made a change such that my hardware is no longer adequate. I guess that my only choice is to go back to 7.2.7 which I recalled did work satisfactorily and then look for another vendor's software such as Easy Media Creator which I know is compatible.
I have saved the installation files to 7.2.7 so that won't be a problem, but is aggravating and I can assure you that I will no longer check to use Ahead softwares. I am through with it. I will update my comments on C-net to show that Ahead is unwilling to work we me to solve this problem is a reasonable way. There is no point to look at other capture cards as
the one that I have originally cost $300.

Nero7 (latest = Nero-7.0.1.4b) - chock full of bugs.
Pros: Nero Burning ROM works okay for me, a couple quirks even then.
Cons: bugs; non-functionality of basic tools; extrodinarily poor customer support
What they also don't tell you is that Nero7 Ultra does not come with all the products that Nero6 Ultra comes with - so you lose those.
I have written several succinct emails to nero tech support, spaced 7-10 days apart, and also filled out their Premium Support on line support form, where they import a lot of data about your system. All polite notes, all matter-of-fact. While every one of these results in an automatic acknowledgement and a case#, not a one of these has been answered, not even an interim 'we're working on it, appreciate your patience' message. Nothing but silence. This is frustrating. The product is clearly in no better than BETA status, so many basic things, including UPDATE, not working. But clearly, NERO is after money, and they were willing to publicly market a major upgrade product not ready for prime time.
If this product were working at least functionally across-the-board, I would give it very high marks. However, since (1) a major part of Nero7 that I rely upon does not work, because (2) I have had to purchase another product in the meantime to do the job, and (3) no apppearance of any effective technical support, I feel nothing short of a low mark can be justified. So I am scoring Nero7 Ultra Edition at a "2", which is being generous in my view.
To offer an excuse for their tech support, perhaps they are completely overwhelmed by queries and complaints, but at least they could send out interim replies. Perhaps the true villian here is Nero's marketing department, who pushed for the premature release. On the other hand, other companies which took quality nosedives like this in this way were in the process of failing, and going bankrupt. I certainly would not recommend buying any stock in Ahead (if it is publicly traded, that is).
So bottom line: Nero6=good, Nero7=bad. Consider other product. Don't touch Nero7 until reviews indicate later releases and patches fix the 1001 problems it has. This is unlikely to be soon.
If they ever do fix these problems, and generate some meaningful customer support to boot, I will re-evaluate this product with higher marks.

A buggy embarrassment
Pros: Can't think of any pros over version 6
Cons: If you like to crash and crash often, here's your product!
Beyond that, there are no new interface improvements. For example: Nero Vision has the same clunky, stupidly designed menu system, where most of the screen real estate on the right side is left blank, and every single menu option leads into a submenu. Rather than having a palette of easy-to-use buttons and widgets all in one spot, you're forced to go into Layout/submenu, then Buttons/submenu, etc.
Get a clue, folks. We don't like buggy beta software masquerading as an upgrade. We don't like major version jumps (6 to 7 in this case) that feel like downgrades instead. And we certainly don't like wasting $50 for a really lousy product.

Pros: Great DVD burning capabilities
Cons: Movie editor not as good as Premier or VideoStudio
Nero was the only one of the three packages that provided the solid DVD burning capability I was looking for. Both Premier and VideoStudio had decent editing capabilities but lacked a flexible DVD burning capability.

Pros: It has the name Nero...
Cons: This program does not work. It crashes repeatedly, and no one will respond from the company when you ask for help.
I wasted 12 hours of my life and burnt 4 DVD video coasters in the past three days. I have contacted their tech support 3 times as well as their sales department.
So far no one has replied to me except for an automated response that begins, "Dear Valued Customer."
You're going to realize how valued I am when I warn as many people away from your programs as possible.
It appears to me that they know their program is bugs, but they're not doing anything to solve that problem. They are not fixing bugs, and they are not communicating with their customers.

Pros: Worked on the first try to burn a DVD. Organizes your media. Nice GUI. Capable of performing all kinds of Burning functions. Burns DVD's to CD's. Supports Blu-Ray. 7.1 channel audio mixing.
Cons: Encoding of my 13gb home movie to a 4.5gb DVD was very slow, not sure why, took about 4 hours.
I am pretty bummed about how much it cost $74 at Micro Center which was the cheapest I could find. Fry's agreed to match the price. If you are not looking to use a majority of the capabilities you can probably find software that will do what you need for half the price. I really like having all the bells and whistles of Nero 7. I will give it an 8 for now. After using it for a while I may change my mind depending on whether I run into a lot of problems or not.

Download Version 7.0.1.2 and it will solve most of the complaints.
Pros: Stable, feature rich, cool new look and features.
Cons: Nero Home and Nero Scout really aren't needed and the Smart start window is to small.
It had options so you can choose what apps you want to install. I uninstalled Nero 6.6 and upgraded to Nero 7.0.1.2 without a hitch. I installed everything just to get a feel for what the whole suite would be like. I quickly uninstalled Nero Home and Scout, they were really not apps I would use.
One bug that I ran into was a clicking when making cd's from mp3's so I did a search over at cdfreaks.com and found that simply replacing the mp3pro.dll fixed the problem. You need the slightly older version: http://rapidshare.de/files/7528898/mp3PRO.dll.html
c:\program files\common files\ahead\audioplugins
This is the folder you will find it in just zip the newer one and copy the older one in. You will be burning click free cd's just like 6.6.
Anyways the fresh new look and additional features, plus the addtion of newer DVD burners make downloading the 30 day trial worth the 10 minutes.

Pros: Burns slideshow, videos and compiles video clips into movies fairly easily
Cons: Just about everything else it says it can do
Trying to use Roxio's Easy CD Creator now starting causing XP system crashes. OK, let's un-install Roxio... now I've got Shellmanager issues in Nero, now I can't fix or un-install Nero either!
I had to restore the computer prior to Nero installation, remove Roxio, then install Nero. That seems to work...so far.
Do not install Nero 7 until you've removed any Roxio products or you'll be very sorry.
Help files have to be downloaded seperately and cannot be incorporated into the program. Very lame. Online support consists of about a dozen "FAQ's", but should number in the hundreds. Half the time, everything was in German.
The media player, scout, home and whatever else is in the bundle don't do anything as well as what you probably are already using. I didn't install any of them. I also did not associate any files with Nero.
With all the bugs, it's truly a Beta Program that may be very good...someday.

Video editing and rendering is the best there is--forget about Adobe, Ulead, Cyberlink
Pros: Nero Vision is more solid than it was in v6, faster than Quicktime Pro at rendering Quicktime video
Cons: Would like to have seen more new features in Nero Vision 4
The source video formats I deal with are mpeg2 (DVD), mpeg4 in AVI files (from a digicam), and DV. Version 6 had some issues with certain types of mpeg4 and the sound would sometimes get out of sync with the video, but that's all cleaned up in v7.
It will render Quicktime compatible mp4 files MUCH quicker than Apple's own Quicktime Pro 7--in fact it renders it faster than real time on my Athlon 3500. This is pretty much the only format that is both high quality and EVERYBODY can play--Mac and PC.
It also has the best-behaved smart encoding feature I've seen for burning DVD's--saves a lot of time especially if I'm making a DVD from mixed source formats.
Nero smart start is snappier now that it used to be--I actually like to use it now.
I didn't give it a 10 because I was hoping for more flexibility in the design of DVD menus and the ability to filter the DVD sound (ie,. wave editor-like capabilities), neither of which occured. I also wish they would make the various programs more similar in appearance.
I didn't mark off for it, but they also do have some cleaning up to do--I didn't find any behavioral bugs, but there are situations where buttons are partially obscured and other such rough edges.
FYI, this review is for the version 7.0.1.2 update.
Adobe, Ulead, and Cyberlink all have pretty-looking user interfaces, but they are less intuitive and less functional and, of course, the performance is a joke compared to Nero. If you are busy and have a lot of video work to do, Nero is the only choice.

Nothing but bugs
Pros: Out of frustration you might get outside a bit more
Cons: Full of bugs, nothing but problems
The INCD program is not working and has caused my system to lock up.
The Product Setup and Update always causes a crash that then prompts windows to report an error to microsoft.
Nero StartSmart starts up and sometimes none of the applications or tools are listed, in fact when this occurs the only thing that is there is the manual, but low and behold, that just takes you to an online link provides pdf only manuals. Also when this occurs there the configure button is missing from nero start smart.
Even though my serial number is listed in nero if I click the logo in smart start, if I start Nero Burning Rom by itself it doesn't show my name or serial registration in the splash screen.
The program also is much less responsive than 6.6 and I am running on a fairly descent computer. It seems almost every application I open has a chance of errors occuring, while 6.6 was very stable.
This may someday prove to be a great product, the catch is, they shouldn't have released it until they had done some testing. Seriously, how hard is it to pay a guy to sit at a computer and test this product for a couple of days. (ok, so give him two different computer configurations to test it on, seriously). Some people have claimed that this isn't even a beta, it is alpha. I would say it isn't even an alpha product yet. It has major flaws and is unstable and slow.
Save yourself a lot of time and frustration and don't buy or upgrade this until a few more patches come out.
Also, on a side note, ahead should have been honest and mentioned that things like manuals and incd were missing or not working.

Pros: Installation options is the only improvement
Cons: Nero Burning ROM crashes each and every time
bad decision to waste about $100 on version 7.0, a very
unusable product.
I simply trusted Nero, assuming that version 7 will be a better
product, enhancing already useful tools and features. Nero
proved me wrong: they did not deserve my trust.
A number of very common functions do not work. Period. Example:
Nero burning ROM (for making audio CDs or duplicating CDs) which
is perhaps at the heart of Nero. It has crashed each and every
time I launched it (or selected it from the StartSmart menu).
I get the following error message: "nero.exe has encountered
a problem and needs to close..."
The same goes with Nero Vision (for making a movie and burning
it to a DVD): I started with a few very small clips, together
less than one GB, went thru all steps, clicked on "burn",
came back the following morning, noticing that it is still
sitting there but it was actually hanging there dead.
Nero 7 also has poor performance and takes over computer
resources, causing many bursts of short freezes. I have a
relatively powerful desktop: 2.8 GHz, 1.5 RAM, and plenty of
HD space.
Installation is the only improvement over the earlier versions.
It allows you to choose what applications/tools to install.

Cons: Ahead has taken a few chapters from Microsoft's programming book: Release now, patch later
To upgraders, the major stuff they added is nero scout (for media management), Nero Home (to directly compete with Media Center), and a completely redone backup took that will make you want to think twice about whipping out your copy of Ghost. 'couple minor enhancements in the audio dept., but not much else has changed. if you've got nero 6, wait a bit for the suite to mature before running out to grab it.

Well I am not completely happy with Nero (Ahead) as a company because I bought Nero 6 mid August 2005 and they will not allow me the to upgrade for free to Nero 7 because it was not purchased between Sept 1 to Novvember 30. Well I missed it by 2 weeks.
To be fair to Nero they did delay the downloadable serial number version until the first week in November. Maybe they have heard your reviews of the product and are correcting it.
Well lets hope they have fixed all the little bugs.
I will reveiw again once I had the chance to use the offical version.

A huge step backwards
Pros: It doesn't make your computer catch on fire
Cons: Everything else!
I downloaded the demo of 7.0 and had all kinds of issues. First of all, any time you open Express (which I use for making audio CDs), the next time you open "full Nero" you get an error that causes Nero to quit before loading. Not only that, I suddenly started getting "Power Calibration Errors" when using some Ritek discs that worked like a charm under 6.6.0.16. I have a brand new spindle of TY DVD-R discs that failed verification under 7. And on top of all that, the Nero 7 installer (while *finally* offering to allow you to select which bits to install or not install), *still* spews junk all over the place... which made Nero 7 take twice as long as 6.x to start up. Still, I liked the new UI - much more XP-like than before - but it's just not worth the hassle for something that looks pretty but doesn't work.
One thing that really bugs me about the whole "Nero Suite" thing is how DIFFERENT each app is. Bash Microsoft Office all you want, but for the most part if you know Word you can figure out the important bits of Excel or PowerPoint within a few minutes, even if you've never really used them before. Using the Nero Suite is like using WordPerfect for word processing, Excel for spreadsheets and Lotus Notes for email, instead of one integrated office suite. Sure, Nero provides that stupid launcher, but who uses that?
Anyway, after doing an uninstall of 7, I'm back to 6.6.0.16 and everything is fine again.

Nero 7 ahead of its peers
Pros: Builds on industry standard burning engine
Cons: There is a Burning ROM bug
Next on the list, I'd like to see automated TV recording (so I can record lost to DVD and have it ready to go when i get up for work in the morning), and HDTV and HDV support, and blu-ray and HD-DVD support.
Another cool feature they've added that I was looking for is the ability to export a slideshow in Nero Vision. Finally, I can export a slideshow from Nero vision and put it whatever format I want. Whether it be DVD's, mpg files, avi files, nero digital, or a VCD/SVCD. Very cool, keep up the good work.

Cons: Got a few bugs that need resolving

A cool look to an old friend
Pros: No more 30MB downloads for updates, YEAH!
Cons: Still in its infancy and needs to grow some
Nero Burning ROM and Nero Express are pretty much the same. But they are solid. I've been able to burn 20 discs without errors. (Of course, Nero Burning ROM will not work once you launch Nero Express, but Nero is aware of this bug and promised me that they have this resolved already and will provide a fix on Oct. 26th)
Nero BackItUp is AWESOME! I can now backup to my FTP account, this is a very powerful feature. And the have improved it in so many other ways. They really should sell BackItUP by itself in Retail. It does more than other programs can such as Ghost.
And I'm having a blast creating 5.1 Surround sound Audio tracks, and that new Beat Editor program is COOL. I belive they call it the 'SoundBox' program. I feel like a kid again.
And Nero Vision 4 is running smoother on my computers thatn Nero Vision 3 ever did. IT seems to be a little faster on my systems. I've able to work with all my Xvid and Divx files without any problems. Of course most of my files are Xvid as I find Divx files are always troublesome.
Overall, I would have to say I am very happy. I hope they add even more features as they did when they came out with Nero 6.6

Tell me why I bought this
Pros: I have no pros at this time since the software will not install (see cons for details).
Cons: When installing, as soon as it uninstalls previous versions, it just makes everything fall apart. It won't load, and it messed up my internet explorer and wrecked several other programs on my system.
It has been removed, and my system restored, again. A system restore has been necessary after each attempt to load this software on my system. Three restores in one night - DEFINITELY BEWARE!
Yep - took it back, got my money back, reloaded the old 6.5 and am now happy.

HUGE Disappointment
Pros: Can't find any yet
Cons: Bugs everywhere you look, slow as dirt
After uninstalling this product, my computer blue-screened repeatedly on rebooting. At one point my RAID controller reported a "corrupt" drive! Only after rebuilding my RAID and rebooting into safe mode was I able to perform a system restore and eliminate the problem that the Nero software created. BEWARE!

Nero7 - Bug Riddled and Slow
Pros: Fancy Box, Lots of promises
Cons: Extremely Unusable at Purchase Time (retail)
In my haste to finish a project, I decided to try Nero7. The new version of Wave Editor crashes frequently. (Transcoding a wav to wma, Attempting hum/click/noise filters on a file, and while saving.)
There are no help files or manuals! The tutorials did not teach me what I wanted to know, and the help files all point to a non-existant web link. I presume that web link will be available about Oct 26, but right now this is a 95% useless product.
The only success I've had was with Nero Vision which was able to successfully create a DVD for me. On the down side, I was completely unable to save the project! (The File->Save menu would not bring up a dialog box, neither would the prominant "Save" button at the bottom of every page. When exiting I was prompted to save, and yet nothing happened when I clicked Yes.) Using the Export to Hard Drive function, I was able to get a DVD format directory on my drive for later. Oddly, it took 15 minutes to write the project to the HD, while it had only taken 3 minutes to burn a DVD from the same menu.
The Burn to Multiple Drives feature is nifty, but I suspect it is causing extra burn failures, even at low speed. This has not been confirmed.
The Support website with it's "VIP Support" forum is apparently useless too. I submitted a nice report to explain a very repeatable problem and have not heard back from them. Even the non-VIP Support Forum has an email auto-reply saying "Thank You" and such.
Tragic! Definitely Tragic!
