Disappointing

Pros: Good with slides shows

Cons: Buggy with video

Review: I'd look for something else.

User Rating: 2/10

SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS - Did I mention IT SUCKS?

Pros: At first looks good and works for about the first or second time you use it. Then it simply quits cooperating.

Cons: Horrible customer support (Bloody Germans!) They should stick to making tanks.

Review: Buyer beware. Doesn't work properly and now the software tells me it cannot encode the data, hence I cannot burn any CD's, DVD's, etc. Useless.

Good compared to programs such as Roxio

Pros: A nice bundle of different useful programs

Cons: Can be slow and can crash

Review: After struggling with the inferior and bug ridden versions of Roxio burning sofware, Nero seems like a dream by comparison. I guess that's not saying much since Roxio is so bad. Nero can be complicated to use and requires a great deal of time to play with. I rather like the Nerovison program which converts video formats and allows one to customize animated menus for a finished DVD. The programs I tend to use most are the simple DVD and CD burning programs and Nerovision. I will admit that Nero Ultra is such a large suite, after a year I've yet to try some of the programs that come with it. I've noticed that sometimes when you try to shut down a progarm when its finished, it will crash the program -- I've attempted to reload the software but it continues to have this issue. It's a minor inconvenience.

Do not install it! Avoid like the plague!

Pros: Maybe it does burns DVDs?

Cons: It messed up with my WinXP and I could not uninstall it!

Review: I had the misfortune of getting an OEM copy of Nero 7 along with my new Samsung DVD Burner. It is bloatware to the extreme. It is heavy, full of useless software, it messes up with your Windows XP and it is difficult to uninstall. I almost had to format my WinXP and start from scratch because of this Nero version.
Avoid like the plague!

stay away !!!

Pros: keep your reciept if you bought this

Cons: it's huge, it takes over everthing running onyour computer. hard to uninstall and leaves a big mess after you do uninstall it

Review: this takes over your defaults and feels like a virus app. it's a huge install and more than likely you'll never use half the program. i reinstalled windows just to get rid of this program. install it at your own risk.

poor & complex instructions

Pros: none that I can think of

Cons: too many extras & not what they advertise

Review: Online instruction might as well been written in Greek. BEWARE OF CALLING TECH SUPPORT: I contacted the NERO technical services three times on 12/16/07 for no longer that 5-6 minutes at a time and was charged the following $71.00 X 3 = $213.00 which would represent a total of 165 minutes on the phone!! THE TECH WAS NOT THAT INTERESTING (They said it would be recalculated after I contacted the NC Attorney General)- I have NERO 7.9 but I had to get a $24.99 Plug in to burn a Video DVD (I thought 7.9 was an advance software)- NERO IS ONLY & A SELF-SERVING
ORGANIZATION!!! SAVE YOURSELVES/ AVOID THEM

PIECE OF GARBAGE!!

Pros: Convinces me to go elsewhere!

Cons: STAY AWAY FROM THIS RUBBISH

Review: Spent over 5 hours working on a video going from Tivo to DVD. NERO constantly locks up, NOT USER friendly. Never got it to work. Editing is a HUGE pain in the A##. NERO took 4 hours to take a finished file and export it to another file location. Was going to burn it to DVD at that point but found out much of my editing didn't go into effect and now back to fricken square one!HATE NERO

Best Nero yet

Pros: This Nero is the best nero I've used yet. I only use the disc burning and file converting.

Cons: Nero needs to stick with being just a burning program, leave the other junk out of their programs.

Review: It seems like there's alot of viruses on the enet aimed at disc burning programs. If your Nero isn't working right perhaps you have a virus. Mine Nero 7 works fine, I wouldn't use anything else.

What a complete waste

Pros: Have yet to find any

Cons: Nothing works; no support from the company

Review: Where to begin. The NERO product came with my new SONY video recorder. Getting it to work with VISTA was the first nightmare and required a $65.00 upgrade. The support is absent. The online manuals are not existent. The tutorials cannot be downloaded. Their web page has bad links. I'm not a complete idiot but I can't even use this to edit a simple video.

I HATE IT!!!

Pros: I don't have any read on

Cons: Everything about the product

Review: I purchased Nero 8 and received a downloaded version of Nero 7 free. 7 SIMPLY PUT "DOES NOT WORK AND FREEZES". Within 2 days I downloaded Roxio 10 which does work and requested a refund from Nero under their promise of a "right to cancel" within 15 days. I was immediately told by email that I could have tried the product under a 15 trail version but since I purchased the product there would be no refund. I just wasted $85.00 because I deleted it from my system. DOESN'T DO ANY GOOD IF IT DOESN'T WORK!!! Never do business with Nero again.

User Rating: 4/10

to cost so much it actually does so little

Pros: they are not any

Cons: I was conned!!! I bought it. It has a serch that takes forever just to list the music. I have seen others work much faster. This prog operates like a pinto.

Review: You can buy roxio which is much easier.

Cant get it off - help

Pros: Did the trial and Couldn't remove it - Only bad software doesn't give you an uninstal

Cons: Did the trial and Couldn't remove it - Only bad software doesn't give you an uninstal

Review: I'm sure there's better software. Try Roxio

User Rating: 3/10

Way too much junk, defects at every turn.

Pros: Lots of software in many categories

Cons: None of the suite is that great

Review: I can't believe the reviewers at CNet give this an 8. User reviews are around 3 for a reason. To start complicated invasive install that anyone who knows about computers knows that is a recipe for disaster. Two lots of software titles that (supposedly) do various media related tasks. Surprisingly unintegrated for a suite. So with an open mind I try each of them and whichever I pick pretty much locks up. I have 4GB Ram and super fast AMD CPU on new PC - no problems running most other software. Stay away from suite. Straight DVD/CD burning always good from Nero so stick with that. This is trying to be too many things to too many people.

Bloatware to the max

Pros: Nero Burning ROM is still an excellent burning program

Cons: All the other crap that comes with Burning ROM

Review: What a load of bloatware this package is. If you didn't get enough garbage with your computer when you first purchased it, then add this to your list. You will fill up your hard drive with loads of bug riddled garbage. I wish there was a "Burning ROM Only" version for $30, but there isn't.

nero 7 is not that much good which it looks

Pros: it says! it is covering all the digital video functions but it is not!

Cons: for the most important option as a digital media editor which is Deinterlacing it does not have a solution

Review: after asking Nero customer service to solve my deinterlacing problem (which I was facing with using Nero 7 OEM version) I paid $60.00 to upgrade my software to full version but it doesn't have the option. each time communication with the customer service rep. takes at least 10 days and these guys are not good at all. I send an email about my serial number to see is the one which I have is full version or OEM (the new one which I paid $60 extra) after 11 days I get 2 responce first one said yes it is full version and the second one (one day later) said no it is OEM (STILL!!!!) so don't trust these guys.. and don't waste your money..

Best DVD Copy Software is listed at: www.dvdxcopyreviews.com

Pros: Lots of features

Cons: Lots more bugs

Review: This program is OK, but there are a dozen other that are easier, faster and more powerful. DVD X Copy used to be the best for DVD copy software, but as per http://www.dvdxcopy.com , DVD X Copy Platinum is no longer being sold This software is OK, but there are MANY better programs out there to copy DVDs. I went to http://www.dvdxcopyreviews.com and there are some excellent programs for DVD copying, complete with side-by-side comparisons and full reviews. I've tried both of the top ranked DVD copy software products and they are both awesome!

Disappointing program

Pros: Installed properly using windows XP

Cons: limited and restrictive

Review: Purchased mainly for video and photo editing, but surprised to get prompts that for an additional $29.00 I can upgrade to the full use of the feature (which are more than one) I thought I was purchasing the ultra edition enhanced. Very restrictive and limited usage without upgrading.

Very dissapointed

Pros: Cd burning, Capture Video, All the features.

Cons: Hassle to use, editing video, weak engine..

Review: ok, I think this is my second time writing a review for this, but I have come back to rate again so people can see even if you have this item a long time, it still dissapoints. I think it's a great product for cd burning, dvd burning at max. Capturing video is up there with above average, it does the job right, but it took me a while to adjust it to work. I have a mid high end computer, with a $400$ graphics card, and believe me when I tell you, editing video in Nero is not an option. It will crash so many times it made my eyeballs pop, and when you edit video, it lack precision and leaves parts that should have been takin out. Every time i made an adjustment I had to save it. I came to find that when I actually wanted to burn it on dvd, it would crash after editing. Nero has so many great features, but only about half a really useable due to the software crash effect. Please look for another software, if your an average editor, video enthusists, and you capture video alot. If your a music person, like to add music, burn it on cd, dvd, and maybe a photo slideshow person, giev it a shot, I don't think it will dissapoint. One thing I was impressed with was the fact that it accepts two or three video formats that many others software products at this price will not, but I solved that problem, buying total video converter.

It Works For Me

Pros: Nero SmartStart gives you everything at your fingertips

Cons: I guess everybody needs to make money, but it could be cheaper.

Review: I've used Nero with Windows XP and Vista Home Premium without glitch or snag. I like the program and have been using it for quite sometime now. If you can figure out how to turn on your computer, you can figure out how to use this program.

User Rating: 4/10

Very frustrating

Pros: a wealth of features

Cons: Very slow, a resource hog, frequently crashes and will not close without a reboot.

Review: I have given up on Nero after having used their software for years. They have crammed far too much into one package. I'm running an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Processor with 4GB of RAM and it still sucks my resources dry making multitasking virtually immpossible, frequently crashes and turns far too many blank DVDs into drink coasters. Nero would be better served by breaking it up into 3 or 4 seperate and unconnected installs. I am now using CD burn XP pro for many of the things that Nero does. It is just as fast as Nero and uses only a fraction of the resources that Nero uses. I am using DVD shrink instead of Nero Recode. Both of these are FREE programs. I don't really need the other functions that Nero offers, however, if I find I do...I am sure I will find more reliable alternatives.

Does in fact handle DivX and MOV files

Pros: Does in fact handle DivX and MOV files, like the Nero Home

Cons: None yet, so far so good

Review: 07JUN2007

Have been a big Nero fan and registered user for a long time. Had a hard time trying to find out if Nero 7 would handle DivX and MOV files because most reviews are not very technical, the Nero website does not list compatable file formats, and the box in the stores do not list compatable file formats. So, I downloaded the trial version which uninstalled my registered version of 6.5x, and found that it will in fact import DivX files. In addition, though MOV files are not listed in the dialogue box when importing files, if you select ALL, it will import MOV (quicktime) files such as those from my Kodak camera. I don't know if DivX and MOV files are "native" to Nero, but I have registered DivX and QuickTime Pro (paid $$ to register them). Therefore, I am quite happy with the upgrade to Nero 7 Ultra and will be registering it shortly.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews of this product. Yes, it may be large and resource intensive, but computers, memory, and hard disk storage is cheap, perhaps it is time to upgrade some systems out there.

Updated
09 June 2007.

Through further use of Nero 7 Ultra (original review posted 06 Jun 2007), I am even happier with it. Namely, when opening a saved project *.nvc file, which cannot locate your media files, perhaps because you have moved the *.nvc file and media to a removeable drive, Nero will prompt you to browse to the location of the media and then opens the file so you can edit. The previous version of Nero did not do this and thus you could only open the *.nvc file from its original location and the media had to be in the original location.

Get Roxio Instead

Pros: Cool looking Interface

Cons: Doesn't Work, Resource Heavy, Bugs

Review: I purchased this first and was completely dissastisfied! The DVD burner didn't work with my burner, but I could burn regular cds very slowly. Very resource heavy and buggy. I recommend Roxio Easy Media Creator!

6 hours later

Pros: I wish there were some

Cons: not fun anymore

Review: I cannot believe what a gorrilla this program has become. I cannot put all the pieces together without four brains and no results. Way too intense and no results. Bad!
i have used your products for 3 years and this ends the relationship.

Pretty good deal for me

Pros: comprehensive features and options, and better than most

Cons: some applications do seem buggy and slow

Review: Wow, what a large crew of unhappy burning ROM-ers.... Given the diehard, almost evangelical devotion to this product by certain CD-DVD groups and forums, I was stunned by the number of very low ratings here.

For compiling and copying data and media, my experience is that Nero 7 works well, at least as well as Nero 6 and much better than several other commercial alternatives. Showtime is a fairly good video player, and I like the tools that come with the suite.

I've never found Nero to be very good for recoding and editing video. Nero Vision on my PC is slow and in some ways difficult to use. It does work, though, and others I've tried simply have not. Nero apparently has given up on the update feature in version 7, though. It never worked, and for every update I've had to manually download a gargantuan godzilla of a single installation file, and reinstall the entire huge program.

I've not tried getting support on the product, so I can't comment on the horror stories about that.

In sum, I'm reasonably satisfied with it. I've tried quite a few alternatives, and except for some freeware limited to one or two functions, I haven't encountered anything better. I wonder if some of the problems users describe might arise from conflicts with other applications and/or drivers on their systems, or from quirky issues that always seem to go along with various media burners and their firmware, which apparently are ultra-sensitive to slight variables in software and hardware configuration. I've found some of the popular CD and DVD user forums helpful for such issues and troubleshooting, if you can deal with the attitude....

doesn't work as well as 6.0

Pros: can't think of any

Cons: doesn't respond when adding data to burn

Review: I purchased version 7, thinking it was improvement on 6.0---Wrong. Stick with 6.0
version 7.0 doesn't respond when you try to add data to burn. Nero's tech support does not respond to emails.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY

Pros: I am typing this because it's required

Cons: This is not even a Beta

Review: I repeat, DO NOT BUY this piece of junk. I never cared to post reviews/comments anywhere online, but I'll be damned if I let another soul spend their hard earned cash on this box. I have been using Nero since version 4, so I cannot say that I was never happy with the product. Compared to Roxio, Nero was always the better option for power users. Well, it all ended with Nero 7. After many unsuccessful installations, I decided to contact Technical Support via e-mail. I documented every possible error in the book for them along with screenshots that they initially requested. Well, I must have been lucky that they even responded to my first e-mail because it has been over a month and nothing has been resolved. I made over 12 attempts (and many more to come) to get an answer from them, but it seems that they purposely ignore folks. Needless to say that I also unsuccessfully requested my money back. My next step now is to have my credit card issuer reverse the charges. I don't think that I will ever use Nero again. Their Customer Service is really non-existant.

CRASH!...CRASH AGAIN!...CRASH AGAIN!...

Pros: Easy to use/navigate

Cons: Crashes ALL THE TIME...which negates any positives the program has to offer. If you can't end up burning your project, nothing else matters...

Review: This program had potential. Easy to learn how to use, even if you're not a pro. The problem is, it crashes all the time. Whether it's during editing, or especially during the final burn, this thing has crashed on me so many times that I've finally decided to count the money I spent on it as a loss, and move on. Oh, and support is a joke. E-mailed them about an issue one time, and it took over a month to get a response...which ended up being extremely generic and unhelpful. Oh, and one time I tried to use the integrated update feature, which ended up wiping out all the sub-programs, and just left the Nero Home shell. Then I couldn't uninstall the program until finally going to their website where I found a tool specifically designed for botched uninstalls...

Pros: converts fast

Great Program, Almost Flawless

Pros: Tackle and Video or Audio that you need to get done.

Cons: Not really for someone looking to greatly modify multimedia, just for the average user.

Review: I use this program for all my video and audio needs. Ripping CD's, burning them, DVD Re-authoring, Converting almost all video files to iPod or PSP using H.264 or AVC and the quality is GREAT. The only time i have a problem is if i am converting to AVC and do other processor intensive tasks (Gaming, Spyware Scan) the output video is blank..but thats a problem on my end. I really recommend this product for an average user.

User Rating: 7/10

Very easy to use with a wide range of options,

Pros: Video compression for portable devices and blank media.

Cons: Plug-in's need to be purchased for advanced setting's. Won't back-up/convert protected discs without other software.

Review: I've had no problems with this program as of yet with nero 7 ultra edition (knock on wood)running on 2 computers (SONY VAIO and Dell XPS). If you srink all your video/movies onto a ipod or pocket pc this is a good program. It will even load the converted file's onto the portible device automatically. All the movies and video I've converted so far have all worked for both my dell axim 51 and 5th gen 80Gb ipod. Has adjustible setting's for quality ect., also if you like to mix scene's from various video/movies and put into one, it workes perfect. Free demo version should allow you to see if you have any software conflics. Hope this helps.

It's a rip off!

Pros: None! Absolutely none!

Cons: The whole program! Doesn't do what it says, can't play anything on Puter or DVD player!

Review: I sure wish I could get my $ back, they are getting rich off suckers like me!

Nightmare! Average user should avoid like the plague!

Pros: Easy to install with their CD

Cons: Unclear and sparse instructions on how to use; poor technical support.

Review: Lacks complete, detailed and user friendly instructions, and Tutorials leave out steps needed for regular user who is not a trained computer professional. Nero tech support only referred me to unhelpful tutorial; second question received no response from Nero Support. Expensive program, and was not able to use due to poor instructions, almost non-existent tech response. Just wanted to copy an audio cassette tape to CD--could not get instructions and help on how to do this simple task. $100 USD down the drain.

Least usable product EVER

Pros: The disc burning feature is adequate

Cons: Most apps are unusable beacause of UI

Review: If all features other than the most basic of disc burning were removed and the program sold for around $5 this would get a 5. I suspect people giving this high marks use it ONLY for disc burning because all other apps in the suite are at best a beta release. Nero simply did not think about the UI for any of this. It tries to do everything but winds up doing nothing.

Nero Home - You will regret even starting it. I'm guessing Nero was trying to make this for MCPCs but If you bought a Media Center PC you got WinMC which way better than this.

Nero Vision - This was the reason I bought this abomination but I have serious doubts whether anyone could make this app work. The UI is a tragedy. I worked with this app for a solid week and didn't get 2 seconds of video out of it.

Wave Editor - Another UI failure. Probably the second least usable app after Vision.

Nero Recode - It will fail to open about 50% of DVD movies. And when it does finally appear to work the DVD might not play. Wrote to Nero after it failed numerous times. "The program may not make a playable disc even when successful." They call a non-playable disc a success?

Photosnap - works but does so little you won't use it. You probably got something better for free with your camera.

Showtime - Oh a media player. Whoopee. Ok it's probably the most reliable and functional app in the entire suite but it's just a media player. I had a free one that worked as well.

User Rating: 2/10

Major disappointment

Pros: Nothing that I can think of

Cons: Not only is this product buggy, but it's slow too

Review: Don't be fooled by the revamped graphics and fancy new features. I upgraded because of the stability and reliability of the previous version and I was looking for a good DVD creator. I noticed some issues in the trial, but the one I downloaded was based on a pre-release version so I took the leap and hoped they had fixed those issues in the final release. They hadn't.

Nero Vision is horribly implemented, and the DVD menu options underwhelming and in some cases (like the user interface) bizarrely designed. Bugs and just plain bad design are everywhere.

Burning ROM still works, but now mysteriously takes an inexplicably long time just for the splash screen to show up, and then has obvious bugs like the "Time remaining" info being way off.

The BackItUP utility crashed on me every time I tried to use it, so no luck there.

All the other new features seemed like a waste of time to me, especially SmartStart which does nothing to simplify picking a feature to launch vs the Windows Start menu.

Ahead stretched themselves too thin on this one. Instead of doing so many half-baked features of arguable usefulness, they should have focused on fewer features and making sure they're solid.

Horrible. Didn't deliver advertised project capability within the 10 day warranty period.

Pros: looks good, promises a lot of capabilities

Cons: no help files or manuals ship with product, user interface very difficult, photo slide show no better than a trial version and in some cases cosiderably less than some trial versions, clunky

Review: I couldn't get it to do what it advertised (make a photo slide show for TV viewing) after diligent and persistent attempts. I'm pretty computer savvy, and this was a HUGE disappointment. Definetly NOT worth the investment.

NERO are crooks

Pros: couldn't say

Cons: couldn't say

Review: Can't say much about this product because they refused to send me a serial number event though I paid for an upgrade to NERO 7. They stole my money and suggested it was my fault I didn't receive their message. Don't trust them. They are crooks.

Does not work/No support

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Does not work, lack of support, still waiting for the rebate.

Review: Purchased this and installed it. Install was clean and painless, but required an immediate update that downloaded the entire program less the help files. When I tried to burn a data dvd, it would burn normally, but fail when it tried to write the table of contents. Despite all attempts to make it work, it would not. E-mail support is available at no charge. I sent a help request and attached the error and info log files. A week later I receive two requests for the same files. I resend them and get a third request. I send them again and then receive an e-mail asking me to download and install the latest version. This fails to resolve the problem. I again send them the error log... a week later and no response.

I called customer support and their only suggestion is to call the pay-as-you-go help line. And I still have not received my rebate. I sent it in 6 weeks ago.

My recommendation is save your money and headache and buy Roxio by Sonic. It works!!!

This is junk!

Pros: only thing good is the dvd viewer and to burn audiofile

Cons: full of flaws, bugs, takes forever to encode video formats, does not convert video formats properly to dvd viewing on your tv

Review: this is junk and full of flaws.. takes 3x the time compared to nero 6 to burn video content (encode) to dvd media. It will fail with log file errors and buffer overun erors...Help files and nero website useless for troubleshooting. Even when it does complete (12 hours to encode running on pIII 1 ghz cpu - 500 megs) it's too pixalated to view on your tv / dvd player...

this is an overbloated cow full of bugs.. don't bother with this.. get roxi easy creator 9 or CONVERTXTODVD. This product is streamlined and easy to use and only takes 2 / 2.5 hours to convert and burn dvds...

Nero Ultra 7.7.5.1 NOT VISTA COMPATIBLE

Pros: There are none!

Cons: It does not work, false advertising, not vista compatible

Review: I understand a lot of software will have issues with Windows Vista.. but the newest version of Nero 7.7.5.1 which is supposably designed for Vista taking advantage of the GUI and adding a gadget... works like crap. Me and a friend installed it, he has Vista Home Pro and I have Vista Ultimate. We both had installation problems, but got by that. He now has GUI problems running the program and I have problems with all of it. Transcoding takes 2-3 times as long. It took me over 4 hours to transcode a video that took me 1.5 hours to transcode before. IMO this version is NOT Vista compatiable, I dont even think it should be on the market!

It's time to look for a new Burning suite that offers what it says it does and just plain works! Shame yourselves Nero..!

May not be suitable for most users

Pros: Not sure yet -seems better in viewing DVDs that are currupted

Cons: Slow - and program locks up and disappears -requires rebooth

Review: After I loaded Nero 7, I find my ability to use the burning of dvd less efficient than the previous version Nero 6.

User Rating: 2/10

Very little functionality that I would use in Nero7 over the Nero5 I already had.

Pros: its a burner

Cons: external managed license to hardware, some components crash often

Review: box promised tons of functionality, I only use Nero Express, Vision, and Recode.
I probably didnt need a whole suete of apps that I paid for.
Some components are demo only (mpeg4 stuff) require additional cost.

Be aware, sellers advertised upgrade rebate that cant be used from OEM versions of Nero that came with your drive, luckily I read the fine print before buying.

NeroVision converts mpg->dvd, not bad (after SmartEncoding is disabled so audio stays in sync) but too slow (10hrs) to be used on my video recording platform and affects background recordings, but all components are registered to one machine so I can't offload the NeroVision task to an external pc that can run it in 2hrs without moving the burner to that pc and transferring the license and leaving my Video record/play box without a DVD drive.

I suppose I am belly aching over a license issue, but where oh where did my $80 go?

Some products crash frequently or randomly so you have to save your editing often and redo work.

Their update system keeps you with the latest patches when it works.

"Slow" is understatement...

Pros: lots of functions

Cons: SLOW AND REQUIRES 100% of PC resourses

Review: It is slow, not intuitive at all, takes up all available resourses, it is not a suite, but a bunch of very different separate programs bundled together. It does not make your life easier, but rather more complicated...
I saw Nero 7 presentation at CES 2007 - real product is as different from presentation as Windows 3.1 from Windows Vista.

Refund is my best advice

Pros: I honestly do like Nero Showtime-2 for viewing DVD movies....Sleek look, crystal clear video and sound and a host of user options to tailor the look and feel of it all.

Cons: The Nero 7 software "update" feature is useless.....

Review: Always get an error stating "an unsupported operation was attempted" while trying to check for updates....Then when you click on "Ok" on the error box, it then takes you to the Nero website, which in turn you receive an "We apologize but an MSI starter error has occured and Internet Explorer must now close" error.

I should have listened to the reviews....How Nero, supposedly the most trusted name in this market can put out such a bug ridden application is beyond me.

Terrible piece of software

Pros: Can't think of anything

Cons: Doesn't work

Review: Can not make more than 1 copy at a time. Version 6 which came with the burner worked fine. Just try to get any kind of tech support or follow the online tech support--non existant. Another example of rush to market from the tech industry. Too bad the folks at Nero won't read the poor reviews--actually they probably don't care.

waste of $80

Pros: none that I see

Cons: froze after every use

Review: All I want to do is turn my LP's into CD's. I bought this on the recommendation of CNET's weekend project write up. I've loaded and unloaded it twice and each time I've tried to record an LP it has locked up. What a waste of time and $'s. Anyone using anything that works?

DON'T BUY THIS SOFTWARE

Pros: Lots of features - a total mess

Cons: No intelligible connection between modules - inconsistant design between modules - terrible integration

Review: I have been burning DVDs - in the past and now on my new laptop. The machine is no wimp with XP media ed. and a dual core pentium cpu @ 166Mhz. I have a meg of RAM and about 100 Gigs of HD space available.

The machine came with a basic DVD burner (cyberlink MakeDVD) which works and makes credible DVDs in very reasonable times. But it has no editor so I though I would upgrade to something better, and why not get the best (I thought).

Unfortunately I had not read the user reviews. The average is 4 out of 10 but I notice the high rollers are people who simply say "People who rate this low just don't know how to use it." No other comments and no profile.

Sounds like that is a PLANT COMMENT from NERO. The average user rates it 2 or 3. I agree. I tried to bring it back but "no returns on opened software." So I am stuck with it.

So far I have made one very poor DVD of something that came out fine on MakeDVD. It was choppy and noisy. Maybe it is so advanced that your need an advanced degree in software operation to get results but I have had years of PC experience and I can tell you this is terrible software.

And I don't know where the CNET reviewer got his rating of 8. He comments about the added features and lists a few cons but I doubt he or she actually tried to use it.

P.S. I locks up my PC very often. Almost no other application locks up that PC.

That really points to bad software. If software is really bad it is impossible to write a useful help file. I am a retired engineering technical writer!
Updated
This software was apparently rushed to faulty completion because of Roxio's release of Creator 9.

It is completely buggy and doesn't work. Likewise the Cnet reviewer seems to be in with the Nero staff. The 8 rating is nonsense. Have you ever seen so many "1" ratings.

Also check out the profiles of the rave fans. They don't have profiles - what does that tell you?

Even if it works - somehow - trying to figure out how is not worth any amount.

DON'T GO NEAR IT.

Hooray, I have finally got Nero 7 to do what it claims to do best. It is really spectacular and burns like a star. The secret is using it properly.

If you want to see Nero 7 burn then put it in your fireplace. It burns beautifully (except for the black smoke).

I guess burning garbage has its downside, but the beauty of it is the satisfaction of never having to see it again.

P.S. as a farewell insult, it corrupted my OS and I am still debugging it!

NERO POST-MORTEM

If you removed NERO 7 from your machine and still are getting strange error messages from NERO - that is because uninstalling NERO 7 the proper way only removes the shortcuts in the Programs Menu and maybe on the desktop. It DOES NOT remove the program or any of the registry entries.

I kept getting an error when I tried to do any video work with other video software. Nero 7 is like a cockroach ? it bugs up your PC. The Nero error message can be killed by clicking OK several times only to be followed by more messages. It also ruined the ability of my NEW VIDEO PROCESSING (see my review of the AVS video software suite) software to work properly.

When I looked in the "Program Files" directory all the Nero 7 software was still there. So I thoroughly removed all of the directories with the Nero name. But I continued to get the error message. Then (in desperation) I used REGEDIT and found all instances of the word "nero." I found several hundred references to "nero" all of which I removed (one at a time). It looks like I finally killed it. I am currently processing a video file in AVS with no hitches.

NOTE: Be sure you know what you are doing if you edit your registry and make a copy of it first.

PLEASE SEE MY REVIEW OF AVS video suite. It is the antithesis of Nero 7. Great stuff.

The software continues to freeze my computer, requiring a cold boot. Poor response from the company.

Pros: Worked fine on the first CD burn, then quit working.

Cons: Freezes the computer during multi session burns.

Review: I have had no success with Nero 7 (nor dealing with the company) see emails below

Hello,

Back in August of 2006 I wanted to upgrade my Nero 6 OEM version to Nero 6 Ultra edition. On you website it offered an upgrade to Nero 7 Ultra as well, so I paid for that version upgrade. I just now got around to using Nero 7 this week, and it freezes up my computer every time I try to add files to an existing data CD. The software does not seem to work properly. I looked on the web and found numerous negative comments about version 7, and most folks said that they preferred using Nero 6.

My question is, how do I credit my Nero 7 purchase to go backward and get a copy of Nero 6 Ultra instead? I called the US customer support number, and they were less than helpful. They told me that they could not point me to a download site to get Nero 6, and they said they could not generate a Nero 6 serial number for me.

I have already paid for your software, which does not work properly. How do I proceed? Do I need to request a re-fund of my money and stop using your software?
Or can you simply give me a Nero 6 Ultra serial number and a download site?

My order number was xxxxxxxx the date was August 28, 2006 from nero-onlineshop@nero.com

Please resolve this as soon as possible. I would really rather continue using Nero products, but NOT version 7.

Sincerely,
Mark Carvalho,
USA

Thank you for the quick response.

To answer your questions:
I was burning Data CDs. I needed to add more data, so I burned the second session, and the message progress said burn was successful, but the program would freeze the computer at this point and I had to shut it down and cold boot to restart windows. This happened several times. Each time, the first session burn would work correctly, and the second would freeze the computer.

Attached are the two files you requested.
Thank you,
-Mark Carvalho

Since my first experiences, upon other occasions, it froze the machine even on the first burn.

I had already downloaded and installed the latest version of Nero7 when the problems occurred.

I had upgraded from Nero6 OEM version to Nero7 and paid over the web.

My question to you folks was: may I please have a serial number for Nero 6 Ultra in place of my fully paid for version of Nero 7 Ultra, as I do not wish to continue debugging your new software for you. I want to go back to using Nero 6 which worked.

Please send me a valid Nero 6 serial number, and a download site from which I may download Nero 6 Ultra edition.

Thank you.

Your email does not tell me how the problems I am experiencing have been addressed? I told you that I was using the latest download version of Nero 7 when these problems occurred. So how does your email help me?

Why can I not get a valid license number for version 6 if that is the version that works properly for me on my machine? Could you please forward my request to someone higher up in the decision making process of the company? Surely my request is a simple one.

If not, how do I go about getting my money refunded for a product that does not work?

I do not wish to purchase version 6... I ALREADY paid for the software. I just require a valid Nero 6 serial number. Nero 7 DOES NOT WORK on my machine.

This is a very poor way to run a business. Making an inferior product and then relying on your "customers" to de-bug it for you is inexcusable. I am very disappointed. I feel you have taken my money fraudulently. I will never use nor recommend Nero software ever again.

Please pass this on to your higher up manager. This is very poor marketing and sales.

Simone,
You are factually correct, and you have obviously not been understanding the entirety of my emails. I told you that I was upgrading an OEM version of Nero 6, when I decided (based on the fine performance of version 6) to upgrade. I saw at that time that Version 7 was being offered for upgrade, so rather than upgrade to Version 6 Ultra, I decided (based on the fine performance of version 6) to jump right to Version 7.

I did not spend the time using a demo version of 7 prior to upgrading, because I assumed (wrongly) that any new version would obviously work as well if not better than an old version. As you are well aware, THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I know that you are aware that version 7 has MAJOR problems. If you are not, all you need do is Google Nero 7 problems, and you will get many responses from your dissatisfied customers (of which I am now unfortunately a member).

You certainly have the ability and technology to give me a valid serial number for version 6 ultra. I do not understand why you will not take the initiative to help a paying customer? Do you really think that I will be able to continue using Nero 7 when I have TOLD you that it FREEZES up my computer. How can I continue to use it? IT DOES NOT WORK on my machine.

Please sit back and consider the problem from my point of view. I paid for software that I cannot now use. You have the ability to help me by enabling me to use an older product (of yours) that DOES work on my computer... Why won't you simply help me? Why are you behaving this way toward your user base?

Please reconsider.
Hopefully yours,
-Mark

I weary of trying to say this... I DO NOT WANT A REFUND! I WANT A VERSION 6 ULTRA SERIAL NUMBER.

I know that you have the capability of generating old serial numbers, for I have worked in the software industry for years, and I know that this is how software is produced.

I also know from experience that this kind of obtuse behavior is what causes good companies to decline. To take the attitude that "we have your money, we don't have to care..." is the height of hubris. It is a shame when successful companies forget how they became successful: through loyal customers.

Alas, I guess I will be forced into searching for another means to obtain a serial number to operate software for which I lawfully paid real money.

Yours very frustrated,
-Mark

Ps. Rest assured that I will tell everyone I know about my unhappy experience in dealing with your company. I will strongly discourage anyone from upgrading to your "newest" product ever again.

Avoid at all costs!

Pros: The Nero brand is the only saving grace

Cons: Unstable piece of junk.

This product does not work! BEWARE!

Pros: Nice packaging.

Cons: Doesn't work. Can't burn CDs or author DVDs.

Review: I bought Nero 7 for CD burning and DVD authoring and I can accomplish neither.

After burning a CD, the software hangs with an empty window, and the ONLY way to shut it down is to reboot the computer - Windows Task Manager cannot close the app. This problem was repeatable - it happened EVERY time I tried to burn a CD.

I was unable to author a DVD using this software - I would always get "Burn Process Failed".

I uninstalled the Nero software and bought Roxio Easy Media Creator yesterday, and I have been able to author DVDs and burn CDs with no problem.

Waste of Money

Pros: There are no pros

Cons: It doesn't work, crashes my system, a totally unuser friendly system

Review: Don't buy it. It is a waste of money and I am on here searching for something that actually works. I wasted 70 bucks plus another 30 for mp3pro which is also a waste.

Don't BUY this product will crash you CPU!!!

Pros: NIce Features

Cons: Dosn't work. Crashes exploer/cpu.

Review: This software is a joke. It has had known bugs since it's releaseed and Nero has provided no fixes. There customer support is all e-mail and they never respond. They should get sued for such a unstable product.

Great tools but not very usable

Pros: Includes a lot of programs that cover most everything you would need for creating/editing CD's and DVD's

Cons: Not at all intuitive, periodic locks up or abends

Review: I should have taken to heart what I read - while it is a comprehensive suite, it is not easy to use, and not for the beginner for the occasional user. Documentation is poor. The programs are not easy to use as the box suggests. Furthermore I have had several lock ups and abends where it just fails. I am buying a separate manual to see if I can salvage it. Otherwise, buyer beware.

Very Unimpressive

Pros: Nothing comes to mind

Cons: Slow,, inaccurate, poor video

Review: The Scout gives each computer directory several of its own creation; there isn't an editor, so you can't amend what it has done without causing further errors on you computer.

The WAV aditor crashes at regular intervals and can't handle large tracks; the zoom function ***********.

The vido is one of the worst I've seen, giving a green line around most tracks.

I like the adio on the Nero 6, with its graphic equaliser but they have done away with this on the 7 and although the playback is fairly good, I still prefer something I can amend for each track.

Disappointed -Support is terrible - Can't install updates

Pros: Many featrues

Cons: Most don't work, can't install updates, no tech support

Review: I cannot install the updates, tried every which way, just get errors. Tech support is the worst ever. They don't answer emails after you send the error messages. They want you to call & pay $1.29 per minute to speak to them instead. This is overkill with how good it is and it totally is not. Wait until you try the help section! A joke.

Who cares what the editor thinks!!!!!

Pros: I have tried thenm all and find "NONE" better!

Cons: None that I can see, except the price...

Review: Who cares what the editor thinks!!!!! Are they always right? "NO" Ive used Sonic, Ashampoo and others and find none equal to the new Nero Ultra. It is the only one whos buffer underrun really works and thats very, very important.

Who dreams up this horror?

Pros: Still has the simple Nero interface.

Cons: Buggy, no divx support, kept crashing, for me everything.

Review: I downloaded and installed the Nero 7.5 Ultra Edition trial version. I was a huge fan of Nero 6 Ultra until the most recent update sent my computer into fits.

The 7.5 edition could not close a dvd-video properly. The Nero back-up feature kept crashing. so I uninstalled the product. After doing so my computer was acting erractically. I could not right click on any start menu items, could not access the internet, and led me to a complete re-format.

Henceforth the rating of 2. If I have to spend hours re-formatting my PC; then the product is not worth a good rating and really should be labeled as "beta"

I am happy to say though, that after I re-installed my OS and programs, I went over to Roxio EMC 8. Everything works perfectly and not one computer problem.

So long Ahead software, this time I think you really got way "Ahead" of yourselves.

Do not waste your money

Pros: Showtime is only program that works

Cons: But Showtime does not work on wide screen correctly.

Review: Only part of this software that worked was program called showtime, which is a video viewing program. You could have used Windows Media player for that. I tried to convert/digitize family video, and it dropped average of 10 frames per seconds during the transfer. In NTSC DV, it runs at 720x480 @29.7 frames per seconds. This means, it dropped 1/3 of frames every seconds. SO, the finished video looks like a slow motion video. It also comes with a program called Nero Scout, which monitors your harddisk. If you activate this program, it will slow down your I/O (anything that has to do with accessing harddisk i.e. reading file) by probably 50%. Especially, if you have older equipment, this program alone will criple your machine. Since intsllation prgram often does not work (if you choose custom install) I hope people will give up installing the program. At least uninstall part work okay. I recommend registry cleaner after uninstalling the product.

Don't buy the version of Nero 7

Pros: Nero earlier versions were great to work with.

Cons: Nero 7 Ultra has abug in it that Nero is not going to correct until December, you can not use product setup because of a problem with Nero Web Engine

Review: If I had known they had this problem I would have not purchased it from a download. It's pretty crappy when they know they have the problem and are not going get it fixed until December.

There should be a ZERO in the rating scale

Pros: Concepts used have potential

Cons: None of the concepts work correctly!

Review: Whoever runs this company should be thrown in prison - escpecially if they are the same group who owned it when Nero 6 was released. (You would think they would have learned a lesson from that fiasco?) It took years for Nero 6 to function as advertised - and it will probably take years for Nero 7 also.

Thank god for the Internet because without reviews from REAL end-users - thousands of people might actually buy this crap. I read 3 or 4 reviews in leading computer magazines all praising this product just weeks after the initial release. I was suckered into buying it last week - almost a year later - and THOUGHT that the problems I had read about in various forums and newsgroups MUST have been solved by now. But I still would not categorize this software as fitable for a beta release (or even an alpha!)

What I want to know is how these so called "professional" writers - can write gleaming reviews of a product that is so blatantly flawed???? Either there is some back-scratching going on here with the folks at Nero, or these guys aren't actually installing and using the product. (Sort of like me, back in my high school days - using Cliffnotes to write a book review for a book I never even read! LOL)

I am totally disgusted and feel like I've "been had". DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE or you WILL be sorry.

What a useless product!

Pros: I can burn CD's fairly quickly, and occasionally play DVD's.

Cons: I can't burn DVD's, or upgrade. Bug ridden.

Review: This product is a total rip off.

It takes up way to much memory and does next to nothing that it says on the box. Except for quickly burning CD's and playing DVD's with the player in Nero Home (that I found by accident), it's useless. It won't acknowledge my LG DVD burner drive either.

To make matters worse, I can't even upgrade Nero 7. All I get from their website after Nero Product setup fails to work (another bug), is a 125 MB+ demo. That is really useful guys. Not.

If I can delete this, I am downgrading to my previous version which I never had problems with.

Is CNET reviewing the same stuff we are?

Pros: Lots of stuff for encoding just about anything....

Cons: Bugs and glitches that can make it worthless.

Review: Are the good folks at CNET reviewing the same stuff we are? Eight out of ten seems a bit high to me, and a few others here as well.
As I'm writing this I've just gone through an uninstall and reinstall to see if I had inadvertently corrupted the application with my broken Kodak Easyshare video files. Yeah I know, that sounds funny. Online research revealed that an update was needed to fix numerous bugs. Good one Jim. I usually research the stuff I buy, but this time I figured a good name like Nero was enough. I paid $80 bucks for it at Staples. Get this, I live in California. When I clicked on the button to be taken to the Nero home page from the application I was taken to the Spanish version. Yes, the demographics of my state are changing but....
Next, I clicked on product update util. inside the application per website instructions and bing badda boom Windows had to shut the app. down due to unknown error. Are you beginning to see the pattern. Tried it again, same thing. No, I'm not reporting it to MS.
So here I am after downloading the approximately 130mb file, clicked the run button and whamo, ?the currently installed version of Nero7 is incompatible with this installer. It must be uninstalled... blah blah blah?. At this point I'm a bit ticked. All I was trying to do was get Nero to stop encoding my video files at 25fps, (PAL),. It defaults to PAL under certain uses and forces the user to reset to 29.97. I'm not the only one who was bit this way. Under other circumstances it won't let me change it at all!!! I don't give a rats @ss which is better! Also, it would grey out codec choices forcing a restart of the app.
I'll leave another review after the update to be fair but I still felt that these problems were too crazy to not pass along. Nero, hope your update fixes said bugs or I'll move on to another app, for my needs, permanently.

They lost me on the license key...

Pros: The box is pretty...

Cons: Had to find a different license key to install because my label was misprinted

Review: I'm right now in the process of installing Nero... or trying to install it. The serial number on my copy was incomplete so I had to find an example on the Nero website to see where mine may have been wrong. Luckily it worked on the 8th try. Hopefully this will work better for me than Roxio. I had Roxio 6 but then it stopped recognizing my DVD-ROM and when I ran the clean-up tools from Roxio, my machine was hosed and I had to reformat and reinstall. I will never buy Roxio again. I'll update this if I can get this installed, right now I'm leaning toward the side of the bad experience crowd.
Updated
For anyone who has the same license key issue I had, the website's example serial number starts "1C80". The serial number on my copy starts "C82". The first character was missing. I guess it was supposed to be "1", but I entered "I" and it worked.

After the install completed I tested things out by burning a CD and a DVD and both tasks worked perfectly. I like how the process of burning the media and creating labels works.

For anyone who's had problems, maybe you should try installing on a clean machine or checking your hardware compatibility. Software companies can't be held responsible if your environment is a mess. There's no reasonable way to plan for everything you could have on your computer.

Works PERFECTLY for me! I LOVE it!

Pros: Tons of great apps, very easy to use!

Cons: Some apps are a bit sluggish, nero scout confusing

Review: I was glad that I ignored all the negative comments on this product and decided to take a chance. I've had it for a few weeks now and I have not encountered one bug and every application works smoothly. Perhaps I downloaded a newer version that fixed a lot of the bugs.

I had several videos in .avi format that transcoded and burned perfectly to DVD. Now I can enjoy all my favorite shows in my living room.

I also love the slideshow feature. I contemplated buying Photoshop Elements separately, but I am perfectly satisfied with the features included in Nero's version. It has good transitions, audio, easily burns to DVD, and the ability to add a menu. That's all I need.

The one thing I found confusing was Nero scout. While I understand what it is doing, I just don't really see the need for it. I guess it makes it easier to search for media files, but photos are really only searchable by date unless you phyically change the name of every picture you upload. Who the heck has time for that? It is helpful when looking for mp3's though. The indexing on Nero Scout also takes a long time. It runs in the background and took a couple days for it to index my huge library of music and photos.

My only other minor complaint is that the transcoding process can take a long time. I transcoded some .avi files and the whole burn process took around two hours. This is pretty common with most burning software so I don't really fault Nero for this.

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend Nero 7. It is well worth every penny.

Pros: Nero 6 was good.

Cons: Spanning DVD +R DL media for backups doesn't work.

Review: Disappointed that I bought this product.

I've removed it & re-installed Nero 6.

I asked Nero for a full refund. Their response, so far, was "no".

I told them I plan to register a complaint with the EU Consumer Protection Agency. That will happen shortly.

Great Multimedia Package

Pros: Burns Slideshows to DVDs that ACTUALLY play on players

Cons: VCD's were not recoginized in any DVD player

Review: I was a bit worried with so many negative reviews of this product. Personally, after installing and actually using this software, I don't know why people are so down on it. I am not claiming it works perfectly as I have not yet tried all functions, but for our multimedia project, it worked GREAT!

The create and burn slide show option to a DVD that can be played on a DVD player worked FLAWLESSLY. It was very user friendly and I am very happy with the purchase.

Nero currently retails for $99 like its chief competitor, Roxio which is also $99. But Best Buy has Nero for $49 and even has another $20 rebate if you previously use a full version of Nero or a version of competing software. $29 for this suite is a steal.

Cannot rave enough about how easy it was to produce a DVD multimedia project, burn it and have it work perfectly.

This is one user that says, forget those negative scores, for the money, Nero has a winner here.

STAY CLEAR!

Pros: none I can find

Cons: huge install, major flaws, always crashing

Review: terrible product... even worse support

Beware: Neither the product nor Nero's customer service works

Pros: Slick marketing

Cons: Nero 7 not only does not work but will not uninstall without third party fix. Customer service is slow to respond to emails other than to decline refund.

Review: Wed 06.14.2006: I attempt to use Nero 6 to back up data. Message window suggests upgrade to Nero 7 because of a "known glitch" with Windows XP. I take the bait and give Nero $46.49 for upgrade. Even with following extensive requirements for upgrade, system freezes. Nero 7 hangs up and will not install or uninstall. Email Nero customer support. Friday: no response from Nero. Use third party uninstaller. Attempt reinstall again (thire different attempts in different ways.) Write Nero 7 again. Monday: Get Nero 7 automatic reply stating concern in progress and suggests same old instructions. Write back asking for refund. Early Tuesday: Get new set of detailed instructions requesting screen shots and lots of work. Write back confirming not using Nero 7 and ask for refund. Wednesday: Nero 7 declines refund of defective product. Nero uses legal language to support lack of customer support.

This product could have been good, but...

Pros: Good Visual Design

Cons: Abysmal Customer Service and Care. Product is very unreliable.

Review: I cant believe that CNET experts gave this software an 8. Nero customer care is not there to help you with a ridiculus array of problems that arise. You cant get any help online, phone (unless you pay a couple bucks a minute), or otherwise. The only email I got from these guys is an email in German, which I cant understand. Navigating their website is equally disatisfying. Updates do not work and are mismarked - what you are really downloading are trial demos. This software is a joke.

Should be sued for non-support

Pros: An all-in-one audio, video, photo program

Cons: Serious conflict problems, abysmal support, and inaccessible help files

Review: I switched from Roxio to Nero and it was a big mistake. There were conflicts that prevented the video editing program from opening and the so-called support was somewhere between late and non-existent. The full-price program comes without any help files. Those files must be downloaded later but even then do not integrate with the applications. I switched because HP distributes Nero as OEM for the HP DVD recorder. HP must have gotten a good deal but it is a raw deal for anyone using Nero.

One stop shop

Pros: Number of Softwares in a single program

Cons: Lot of bugs (especially when you watch TV)

Review: The best new part (when compared to Nero 6) is Nero Recode. Its are relief for those who always wanted to burn TV shows (DVR MS) after encoding them to mp4. I wish it could also encode in DivX format. You can also catpure TV shows from this software and burn them (theoretically though as lot of bugs). It is not for those who still have old PCS as it really needs a lot of ram and power. Overall - Good once all the bugs are removed.

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF

Pros: NOTHING - THE FIRST PRODUCT WITHOUT PROS

Cons: EVERYTHING - THE FIRST PRODUT WITH ONLY CONS

Review: I went from Nero 5 to Nero 7 = culture shock.

a- I downloaded it: no help files, apparently to keep the download size small; imagine, they keep 30 megs off from a 200 meg download to speed up things; HEY NERO, THIS IS 2006 AND WE ALL USE ADSL SO WHAT'S THE REAL REASON? Instead you have to download the help files one by one, TALK ABOUT SAVING DOWNLOAD TIME, and of course separate downloads add up to far more download time wasted, AND THERE ARE HELP FILES MISSING ON THE NERO SITE, so you look at InCD or SmartStart and there is no help, GREAT JOB NERO, HOW ARE THESE THINGS WORKING? and the ones that are available you have to download, then figure out BY YOURSELF how to add the help modules BECAUSE THERE IS NO HELP FILE TO TELL YOU HOW TO DO IT, then it doesn't work because you need to unblock them in WinXP, then you have to copy them over to EACH APPLICATION'S FOLDER SEPARATELY; in the end, the whole help file bit takes at least one hour if you know what you are doing and, since I was new to this garbage, four hours; THANKS FOR WASTING MY TIME, NERO

b- you realize why, contrary to all other companies in this field, Nero does not have a user forum: THEIR USERS ARE ALL SO PISSED OFF, A FORUM WOULD TELL THE WHOLE WORLD WHAT A ******-UP PRODUCT THIS IS;

c- I believed I'd get top-of-the-art software, after all I had still used Nero5 until now, together with a few free and shareware proggies I had downloaded from here; guess what, all that hi-priced stuff in Nero 7 is in half the cases only barely as good as the sharewares I use AND THEY WERE CHEAPER AND HAD HELP FILES;

d- their support stinks big time: you get standard answers that do not apply, their help is ridiculously incompetent (what can they do, admit they cover a inept product?) - I stop here, had enough of this.

I'm pissed off enough as is so I stop writing, but believe me I could go on.

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF NERO7.

Very Disappointed

Pros: Lots of features and drildown layout.

Cons: Loss of image quality for Pics and Video. It hangs frequently. Customer service is non-existent.

Review: Like many others I too am very disappointed with this version of Nero. It has become more complex in it's offerings of which could be viewed as a good thing however, the overall quality has dropped significantly as a result (when it works of course). It frequently hangs up on my computers i.e. two PCs and one Lap-top. The video slide options are great however the image quality results are terrible. Copying, or writing to either CDs or DVDs has also become a hit and miss proposition for music and/or general data. Video capture and reproduction is sketchy and here again the resulting images are not as sharp as they use to be. My older version of Nero 6.5 still works better. Save your money and go with Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 7.5 or 8.0-- although somewhat basic it works with great results (excellent for beginners)!

Good ideas...Bad product

Pros: This program has many of the good features from NERO 6 ULTRA plus a few worthy extras.

Cons: Hastily released. Poorly executed. Not compatible with all graphics cards.

Review: Hastily put together. Like NERO 6, this program will not comply with ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro graphics card. According to NERO support (which doesn't help much), NERO is always working to update their program to be compatible with current video cards. You would think that the ATI AIW 9800 Pro would qualify for an early entry since it is a top of the line card that has been around for years. But they are not compatible and NERO confirmed this to me in an e-mail from their support. Specifically, the cable channels won't load either in NERO Vision or their new Home feature which for some strange reason are separate from each other in terms of set up.

When you load up files to record to CD in .wav, the files will not load in order. Even if numbered, they may load in correctly; but, they will record randomly! I have to use Roxio 7.5 to burn .wav CDs from files.

I have asked for a refund from NERO since the upgrade from NERO 6.6 is not an improvement (with the latest NERO 7 updates as of the end of April 27th, 2006). No refund. The program may eventually be everything NERO claims it to be; but, for the time being it doesn't quite cut the mustard. BTW, NERO shows all the graphics cards that are compatible on their website. Search it out and you will be surpirsed how many AREN'T THERE.

Absolutely Pathetic!

Pros: Looks Great!

Cons: Performance = Very Little

Review: After Nero 6 - Nero 7 is an absolute disappointment. It has some fantastic features, all which are fine, provided you use a "Lite On" burner! Nero 7 doesn't appear to reconsise any other burner? After installing both Ultra 7 & Premium 7, I found that the program still wouldn't recognise my burner?? Simple solution folks = Update your existing Nero 6 to Nero 6 Reloaded!!! Same great look & features, only this one is not burner discriminant!!!

Save your money

Pros: Multi-faceted program

Cons: Bugs so aggravating any utility in the program is lost.

Review: I just want to reiterate the multitude of problems indicated by other users. My "retail" version wouldn'[t run out of the box. Showed up as a demo and wouldn't install properly. I had to download an "update" to install. The updates have not addressed the bugs and the last one was so bad I had to uninstall it. Nero Vision won't unload from memory when shut down, so you have to manually stop the process to access any files used in a session or to shut down your system. Version 6 at least worked properly even though it was a memory hog also, but nowhere near the extent of 7. This product should never have put on the market. It's an insult to their customers. Also, I'd like to know if the CNET's reviewers actually used the product or just read Nero's marketing releases.

Don't Buy!!

Pros: None

Cons: Bad support

Review: I bought Nero 7 Premium. after installing I faced some technical issues - some of the features didn't work.
I asked for a technical support - they reply me after a week with no help.
I asked again but with no reply.
I appealed to the consumer support but instead of helping me they wrote: "Please be advised that we are unable to offer a refund, as defined by our terms of trade. These terms were accepted with the purchase of Nero from our website ..." they didn't even helped me!!!!!!!
The current situation is that I payed money for a software that doesn't work and they won't help me!!!!

An MVP in my lineup.

Pros: A great user interface, reliable

Cons: A big program.

Review: I bought Nero on the advice of a sales representative at Micro Center. I have a lot of files that I create on a regular basis, so I wanted a reliable program, which would allow me to easily back them up. I appreciate the advanced options available for backing up.

The user interface is a pleasure to use, so intuitive! I didn?t have to bore myself to death reading the users manual to understand how to use this product.

Cons: Everything-The product doesn't work

Review: This product does not work PERIOD. Would you buy a car that doesn't start? I wouldn't either! If you feel that you absolutely have to throw out a $100, send me the money, I accept Paypal. How did Nero earn an 8 out of 10 on CNET's editor ratings is hard to understand.

Pros: Easy to use. Loaded with features and tools.

Cons: A bit pricey, but competitive against anythoing else close.

Review: I by no means am a power user. I got a buddy of mine that lives on this program so he turned me on to it. I don?t burn a lot so $99 bucks was kind of high for my needs, but now that I have Nero, money well spent. I?m still not a power user, but a little time and experimenting and I can now do just about everything that those ?pros? can do with my movies. Best valued software I?ve bought in a while.

Nero 7 Ultra Edition - The Perfect Solution For VHS Tape Clutter

Pros: Easy to install, use, and produces video disks of high quality.

Cons: None that this user could find.

Review: Nero 7 Ultra is a truly fantastic product for people who want to convert a lot of older VHS tapes to DVDs. I have a rather extensive collection of TV Shows that I enjoyed so much that have not become DVD Collector Sets. I recently found out that you can take movies and shows off of your VHS tapes and capture them to your PC, edit them, and make DVDs. This sounded really cool as I knew my tapes were going to get old and I wanted to something with the shows. Nero 7 did an excellent job of capturing them from my Dazzle 90 USB and letting me cut out the commercials. Making DVDs was easy using their Nero Vision utility. Couldn?t ask for an easier product to work with that produced quality videos right of out the box.

Pros: My 10 year old mastered disk copying in minutes

Cons: this is a large install

I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys playing their digital media

Pros: I liked the total solution found in 1 box not only audio but video, back up, storage, etc.

Cons: Finding the time to create more custom audio and video files.

Review: I recently bought a digital media player to use with my wireless network at my house. I liked the idea of being able to show slideshows of my photos and sharing my music with friends and family without having to gather around my computer in my back room. I was not impressed with the software that came with my unit, so I began to look for other alternatives. I came across Nero 7 which not only gives me audio and video burning capabilities but has a home network streaming option with Nero Home. It is a much better software package to run with my digital media player. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys playing their digital media and is looking to expand thier sound and imaging experience.

A great product!

Pros: Full Featured

Cons: too many modules

Review: I read some of the other reviewers ratings and am puzzled by some of the negative comments. This is a fabulous product that does everything I need it to do quickly and efficiently.
I have used the main competitor to Nero and found it to be ponderous and confusing.
With Nero everything is in the Product Center even the PDF manuals.
I highly recommend Nero.

Pros: Burns the most compatible DVD's.

Cons: None that I know of.

Review: I have been a long time Nero user and it just seems to get better with time. Just like the predecessors Nero 7 keeps burning the most compatible DVD's I can play them in my Playstation and 9 year old DVD player. None of the others I have tried, and I have tried all the major brands, have been able to make compatible DVD's. All I know is with Nero any DVD I make to send out to my friends and family will ALWAYS WORK!

This thing is awesome

Pros: DVD Burning

Cons: little things here and there

Review: Ok, I got this and when I went to burn a DVD, I was messing around with some settings and I was able to set when burning a dvd, to encode the audio in Dolby Digital 5.1 even though my source was stereo. I was a little sceptic at first, but I burnt the DVD and then went to play it on my dvd player hooked up to a 6.1 surround sound. The only time I have ever gotten my reciever the Dolby EX is when I rent movies from places like lbockbust. Well, I saw the Dolby EX thing in my reciever. This is the only program I have seen that is able to do that. The 1-pass encoding is awesome too! I has a small video file and by small I mean small dimensions, and whit the 1-pas encoding, from about 7-10 feet away from my TV, the video looked as if it were f4om like cable. (not so pixely) Oh yeah, if you have downloaded the package from nero.com, then you would also need to buy the DVD-video plugin for the DVD video part to work. And best of all, then encoding of about a half hour vidoe only took 10 mins total! The fastest I have ever seen for encoding to work on a DVD!!!

Nero 7 Version 7.08.02 Excellent for........ 97%

Pros: Nero 7 is the best videosoftware I used until now. Real high qualitywork .

Cons: A complete program capture scheduler and teletekst for TV programs is missing .

Review: Nero 7 latest version 7.08.02 ( OK ; thisone was needed !!!! ) together with a Plextor ConvertX-TV402U garanties me a HIGH STANDARD of quality for conversion of any available video format from TV , VHS video recorder , Camcorder and burning on a CD or DVD without any loss of quality . Rightly , the remaining 3% stays for a missing full-scheduler for delayed capturing , no teletekst, a hesitating activation of InCD5 during 1° startup ( a 2° REstart is needed )and more extensive , complete HELP files are welcome , but they are working on it . The support from the Nero crew is very serious and at least they answer and they do not send you walking out !!!!! and this is a major quality for serious softwaremakers , is this not ?

Excellent Burning program

Pros: Easy user interface and lots of technical attributes

Cons: none that i have found

Review: I have been using Nero for years. Nero is my favorite CD&DVD burning software, and version7 didn't let down on what I'm accustomed to. The start smart interface makes it very easy to navigate whatever burning tasks I might have. Also, the ability to make photo slideshows with audio, mp3s or wma's, and edit & convert my camcorder videos puts Nero at the top in my book. I really don't want to make myself sound like a spokesperson here, but I hate to see such a good product get bad reviews. I have burned multiple cd's and dvd's with no problems. Anyone who's used Nero knows you have to give them their props. Go Nero.

I have used Nero7 for 3 months and LOVE it.

Pros: Lots of abilities, never a useless burning session.

Cons: some parts are pretty complicated and I have yet to learn to use them--mostly because I am not into video recording/editing.

Review: I have used nero 7 for the past 3 months. I see complaints about it 'damaging' either Office or Outlook Express. I use both programs daily and my Nero has damaged neither. Perhaps another problem was at work in these cases?

I use my Nero 7 (as I did my previous verion of Nero) for photos, music and data--I have only used DVD burning once for a restore disc and since it is the first and only time I have used DVD burning capabilities surprisingly enough the disc worked fine in a catastrophy!.

I have no problems with 'bugs' that are provided with 'fixes'. I usually wait for a couple of months (longer with operating systems) before buying a new product--giving the publisher time to do bug fixes! In my experience buying a product shortly after it is released is a guarnatee of buggy softwear!.

I have recomended Nero 7 to several friends who were having problems with their copys of another highly rated burning softwear and they were far happier with Nero7.

NERO 7 Ultra Rocks!

Pros: This is an awesome program!

Cons: None so far.

Review: I installed this program with some reservations after reading the customer reviews, but I must say after using it for several projects, it's pretty awesome.

My computer is a new Sony VAIO RC210G. Perhaps the processor speed and Windows XP Media Edition are required, but so far, NERO 7 has been fully functional.

The only program which comes with it that is useless is Nero Home. The rest are excellent.

I have to recommend this product, especially if you are a prior Nero user.

Nero 7 is TERRIBLE Worse than any virus

Pros: NONE Ok the box is pretty but that is it.

Cons: Buggy, Worse than a virus, No customer support to speak of, It will destroy your registry.

Review: Do Not Buy This Program. It totally destroyed my registry, sound, and is worse than any virus. I have to reformat to get my computer back to normal. Nero knows this product is destroying a lot of Peoples computers but continue to sell it anyway. They do not care. Nero 6 is ok but do not buy Nero 7.....

IMHO Nero 7 is great, I take the views of those who've had problems with a pinch of salt

Pros: FULLY featured, top burn performance, reliable, attractive (if you like that sort of thing), v7.0.1.2 onwards seems to have fixed most, if not all bugs

Cons: Probably too many features that other dedicated programs do better (backup, TV, Music player), early versions WERE buggy

Review: First of all, I'll state the software version I have (as few other reviewers seems to have done so): I have v7.0.1.4. A friend (a power-user as far as burning is concerned) recommended that I upgrade from Nero 6 Ultra Edition to v7.0.1.2 at least to avoid the bugs in earlier versions.
I was delighted with my upgrade. I burned 18 single layer, compressed (to ~65% of the normal) DVDs. No coasters and up to 4 minutes quicker than I was used to. About a dozen CDs were burned without any problems, tho' it was hard to see increased performance. I tried a DVD-audio. No probs. A large MP3 archive on CD and DVD. Again, no problems. Everything was tested in my standalone DVD player, my trusty old Hi-Fi and my car's cd changer.

I really think that many of the users thyat have complained so bitterly about this product need to take a look at how they are using the product, what version they have (try downloading fixes!) ans the HW they are using it on. Have a look at reviews of Nero 6 Ultra Edition - there are a lot of "terribles" for that too. A poor workman always blames his tools.

In fairness though, early versions were buggy, and if a user upgraded too early they could have ended up with a few problems. This is the case for a lot of large software packages out there. I didn't upgrade to 7 myself until the furore died down. I waited 'til SP2 to upgrade to XP and I waited for a while to upgrade to Office2003 aswell. I'll even wait for a good while b4 I go for Vista (if it ever gets finished!).

If you're thinking about upgrading to Nero 7 but are put off by the reviews, don't be. Go for the latest stable version available (at least v7.0.1.2 - I have v7.0.1.4) and be prepared to do some tweaking if need be. It's a big app and you could run into some incompatabilities.

I'm giving it 8 because it's got too many bells and whistles. I like my software lean and fast.

CREATING PICTURE SLIDESHOWS and DVD COMPATIBILITY

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: DVD video compatibility

Review: INTRODUCTION
With my first trip to Europe, niece wedding, and 4 birthday parties, in the next 6 months, I decided to upgrade my 2002 2MP camera. From the beginning my goal was to produce a DVD-video slideshow, which could be copied and sent out to family and friends. A high priority was a camera which could also take avi movies. This compromise would save me from dragging around both a camera and a camcorder. And I have seen to many family camcorder video tapings, which after 10 minutes, the same material gets boring! My other must priority is simple to use, and fast results.

SELECTING A NEW CAMERA: CANON POWERSHOT A610
I started my search with http://www.steves-digicams.com/, then moved to http://www.dcviews.com/ for the clearinghouse of all camera reviews. I purchased, after an in-depth, search, the CANON POWERSHOT A610 5MP camera, and have been very happy. One note, the reviews say the A610/A620 do not zoom while filming, this is incorrect! They can zoom in&out while filming! I also purchased a 2Gb 133x memory dimm. I set my resolution to 2048x1536, and video to 320x240 at 30fps. 15fps is to jerky. A 2gb can produce a 60 min slideshow, encoded set to the highest quality.

PICTURE?s TOUCH-UP: ADOBE Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0
Of the 4 birthday parties I have averaged a min of 100 jpg pictures and 10 avi files. All the BD parties have started in the afternoon and ended late at night. I have pictures taken with daylight to incandescent. I also have the redeye fix turned off to speed up the shutter, due to fast motion of small kids. For redeye and occasional incandescent touchup, I wanted a program which could go through a large number files fast and easy. To many programs make it a big deal to open, select , then open the tools, then save, etc. Also a few programs will save the jpg file to a different jpg resolution! I am now using ADOBE Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0, and it?s free by download. Another good freebie is MAGIX PHOTO MANAGER. The other programs I tried are Canon Utilites, Fuji Viewer, PhotoDeluxe HomeED, Camedia Master, MS Picture It, ArcSoft Photo Studio, HP Photo Printing, Photo FX, and MGI Photo Suite.

CREATING MPEG SLIDESHOWS: EMC 7.5 VIDEOWAVE
I reviewed NERO 7, Movie Factory 4, Vegas Movie Studio 6, Premiere Elements 2, Pinnacle Studio 9, EMC 7.5 and 8. For me, I selected EMC 7.5 over 8. Again, simple and fast results are my priorities. I like EMC 7.5 ability to open a folder, then you can click and drag the jpg or avi file into the slideshow. This is a big time saver for putting together a slideshow. I was surprise how many programs separate opening stills files versus video files. I mix stills and video to create my slideshows. For those doing a lot of audio mixing, check out Vegas Movie Studio.

BURNING DVD-VIDEO for COMPATIBILITY: GEAR VIDEO 8
Being a computer geek for 25 years, I am use to compatibility issues for new technology. This was no different, but still frustrating. After producing, burning and copying my first EMC slideshow, I received phone calls of ?disc errors. Like everyone else, I started reading forums like ROXIO?s EMC, http://forums.afterdawn.com/ , and http://forum.videohelp.com/viewforum.php?f=30 on how to DVD AUTHOR. I appreciate everyone comments about buying the best media and burners, but I remember the compatibility issues we had with CD?s as the technology matured. Yes the media quality was a factor, but the burning software and burning speed had a greater effect on compatibility. So my compatibility testing focused on the software, 4X burn speed, using cheap DVDs and a cheap burner.

My computer is a HP/COMPAQ SR1514NX with Sempron 3100 1.8Ghz, with 384Mb usable memory (128Mb out of 512Mb dedicated to onboard video). At the end of my testing I still have 30Gb of free hard disc space. My burner is a Fry?s EMPREX DRW1108UI external USB. My DVDs are Frys?s GQ 16X+R, qty 50 for $10.50, and COMPUSA (PRINCO) 4X-R, qty 100 for $20.

I have now burned 51 DVD-Videos, (with the same mpeg files). I have tried 48 DVDs in 9 different DVD (TV) Players. Of all the family members DVD (TV) Players, the Samsung 511 was the most difficult, and the best was a Sony SLV D500P, it played all burned DVDs.

On all my burns I added my mpeg files to the menu, then saved to a physical ISO file. Then burn from the physical ISO image file. I have burned the following: +R at its 16X and 4X speeds, the -R at 4X, menus using the standard image supplied, imported jpg & bmp still pictures for menu images and selected auto play with no menu, if available. Players were Samsung, Toshiba, RCA, LG, Magnavox and Sony.

My recommendation for compatibility across different DVD players:
Use -R media and burn at 4X speed
Use a Menu versus auto-play. All Auto play had some compatibility issue.
If importing a picture for the menu image, first convert to bmp. Jpg had compatibility issues.
Save to computer a physical ISO image file, then burn ISO image to disc

BEST SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY with no burn failure or issues was GEAR VIDEO 8 http://gearsoftware.com (free trial ware). All DVDs burned were successful, (NO failures) and every DVD-Video played in every machine. The only negative comment I have is, it?s not the easiest to use. I do not recommend it as the first and only software for a beginner. If I had not used the other programs first, I would not have understood some of their terms and actions. On the plus side they do a have a User forum, US(Florida) phone support and do answer the phone. Program also does audio. The negatives are no choice for auto play of no menu, and you have to close the program and reopen to load a ISO(dvi) physical image file after its creation from its folders.

My second recommendation for COMPATIBILITY, and first choice for a beginner is Pegasus Tsunami (TMPGEnc) DVD AUTHOR 1.6 (not Pro)) http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html. The negatives are #1) DVD AUTHOR was the only software to fail during the disc burning process, 3 bad burns, (51-3=48 disc), #2) the auto play with no menu, played in the Samsung 511, but failed in 3 of the 9 DVD players, tested #3) lack of phone support and user forum,

EMC 7.5, NERO 7, ULEAD Movie Factory 4, SONY Vegas Movie Studio 6, Pinnacle Studio 9, all had some compatibility failures across the 9 DVD players.

All 4 Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 DVDs did play in all 9 players but I disliked PE2 for the following reasons: 1) played at a lower resolution(?) and I did select the highest quality, 2) it took 3.5 hours to create the physical ISO image file (versus all others took 60-90 minutes) and 3) while doing so it beat up my system, like no other software program. It was very memory hunger, causing my system to consistently use the hard disc as virtual memory, and CPU usage never dropped below 98%. For the first time I was actually worried my system may over heat.

Do not buy or install this!

Pros: I wish I could find some...

Cons: Everything I've managed to get to work is a HUGE disapointment and WASTE OF TIME and money

Review: I HAD a reasonably good OEM version (I'd tell you the name of this, except I don't have it anymore) running until I foolishly decided to try downloading the demo version, which of course required me to uninstall any existing versions. I didn't really want to do that, so thought I'd bite the bullet and buy the downloadable version. DOH!

I followed the link in the email confirmation about how to install it. Nowhere did they give the option to install a fresh version; only over the demo version. So I installed that, DOH!

After at least three failed install attempts and reboots, I finally got it to "install", of course having had to uninstall the "working" OEM version first. It conveniently installed itself in my C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temp\NeroDemo9672 folder. Huh?

I managed to set up and run a full backup of my regular files and then created a differential which, which of course when I ran it, did a FULL BACKUP! I tried creating another, with the same result, except that the job disappeared from the list of jobs. After a reboot, it mysteriously reappeared. I tried running that, and when I realized that it too was doing a full backup, I tried to cancel it. DOH!

After many minutes of "please waiting" I tried to shut down the machine from the XP "Start" menu. DOH again! The disk just kept on spinning. Some how I managed to get it to stop (lots of expletives have been removed here) and then had to use the power button.

I haven't even bothered or had time to explore the new feechurs of this so called "product" I had hoped to use, nor I have received anything but their automated reply to my request for help.

I have wasted so much time trying to get this to work and have lost the version that was working, that I guess I'll have to look into, and probably pay for, an alternative product that actually does what it claims.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Doesn't work

Pros: Nothing that I can think about

Cons: No Customer Support

Review: This product simply doesn't work and it has no customer support.
My feeling is that they sell an empty box and their customer support is not even attepmting on supporting the installation.

Audio users beware

Pros: the box is pretty

Cons: they add insult to injury

Review: Got this to convert my old tapes to mp3's then to CD. When u CAN 'save to file' it lets u ..sometimes..try to enhance it...forget it..it crashes..no separate channel controls ..and to add insult to injury u only get about 50 mp3 conversions unless u buy more for $20.00. U can save to 'wave files' but who wants a CD with only 9 songs. Yeah this sucks...a BIG one.

Having had Roxio 8 Crash Numerous Times Writing a DVD Data Disc, Nero 7 is a Breath of Fresh Air

Pros: Solid CD/DVD Burning, Stable

Cons: DVD Authoring is Limited

Review: After both Roxio 8 and Nero 7 were released, I waited to read the customer reviews. Nero 7's were obviously very poor, as noted by the posts here.

Roxio's on the other hand, were very positive. So, I decided to go with Roxio. I had used Roxio 7.5 previously, and ran into a major problem when burning a data DVD (a rather important one - contained all my driver backups and downloads).

After having Roxio 8 crash, lock-up, screw up several discs, it was time for an alternative.

Nero has always been a more powerful burning suite, but with a steep learning curve.

So far, I haven't run into any problems - everything burns correctly. I've only played with the DVD authoring tools, and find them o.k, but not as extensive as Roxio.

User Rating: 1/10

serious Bug, problem with Buffer

Pros: Impossible to connect for update

Cons: Buffer overrun detected : error message, impossible to burn

Review: A buffer overrun or underrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state.
The program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated.

Crash very often.

Bad Nero!.. Bad Nero!!

Pros: At least I can go back to Nero 6

Cons: Acts more like a speed bump for my system than an application

Review: Tried to make DVD from AVI and never did figure it out. En coding to MPEG2 seems impossible. Still trying to get system back to normal after uninstalling.

User Rating: 1/10

Don't waste your money

Pros: There are no Pros

Cons: Nothing works, including product support.

Review: I purchased this program for their claimed audio features. Wanted to convert tapes and vinyl to MP3. There is no MP3 encoder included. You must register to get the MP3 encoder. After you register they send you a number. That took 2 weeks. and the number didn't work. They won't answer emails.

Garbage, smelly garbage!

Pros: There are none!

Cons: Too many to mention!

Review: Garbage! Alpha quality, buggy software. This product never should have hit the streets. Customer support is dishonest, unhelpful, and completely unable to solve any problem. Refund policy is "you bought it...so to heck with you!" Sad to see a good company go bad so quickly.

I can't imagine what the CNET editors were thinking, giving this junk an 8.0???

DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE!

Only thing worse than this program is the customer support from NERO!

Pros: It comes in a really neat box - Reminded me of fishing with grandpa.

Cons: DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY!

Review: 3 days of attempts, a 55 minute wait I was simply told:
"Uninstall the original and install ver. 7.0.1.4 and re-enter the S/N." After doing that, it STILL DOES NOT RUN WORTH A FLIP! This is NOT worth beinding over to pick up!

Failure of Nero 7 Burning ROM

Pros: Lack of Manuals and instructions to explain the types of formats that data can be converted into

Cons: Closes down when trying to open in Nero burning ROM

Review: After using Nero 6, which was supplied with a Phillips drive, I bought the updated 7 version beccause the other programme had a time limit access on some of the operations. This was a big mistake. This programme will not launch in "Nero 7 Buring ROM" , a screen comes up with the message "Nero.exe has experienced a problem and has to close" You have to go through Nero Expess to get it to work. Extremely disappointed. Has anyone experienced the same problem? In another area it asks you to create a "Nero Database" on the first operation, then when you go to use it the system reports " database can not be found, wrong path", but gives no option to select a path. Do not buy

Love this product!!

Pros: Easy to navigate and playing media is just one of the new features

Cons: No DIV x support with new version

Review: I've been using Nero for a long time and everytime they update their software something is enhanced and the new features on Nero 7 are awesome. There isn't another choice for me in digital media suite software.

Nero 7 Ultra Edition not ready for prime time

Pros: The back up features work good.

Cons: The updates are treated as Demo Versions

Review: Ahead knows that the website updates falsely to show it to be a Demo Versions. They require that the user uninstall a bought CD version prior to installing an update only to find out that it is a Demo Version. In late December they promised a newer update than the Dec. 22 update on the web site to be released in early Jan. and it is now mid Jan. and it is still not available. Tech Support seems to be unfamiliar with this newer version and some of their help has been flawed. Nero 7 is not up to the quality that Nero 5 & 6 had. Also Nero 7 has not been tested against common graphic cards such as ATI All In Wonder 9800. I would have not updated to Nero 7 if I had read CNET's reviews before hand.
Updated
I have just installed the latest update of Nero 7 and it is just as bad as it was 10 months ago even though they have had many updates. It still is not compatible with a very popular Capture Card - ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro
Updated
This is the answer I got from Ahead. "A BDA driver is a driver which can be used by most digital capture cards. This allows us to implement all capture cards to Nero 7 which are using this without adding every by hand. Unfortunately your capture card is not supported by Nero 7 and I´m relly sorry for that." Here was my reply; "Well I don't understand, I have used this capture card for 2 1/2 years through Nero 5.5, 6.0 and some of Nero 7.0 versions with good success.
With that previous experience why would I even have considered to check its capability with your most recent update of Nero 7.5. The capture card hasn't changed, and the computer hasn't changed, but the only thing that has changed is your software that once worked just fine on my
computer and because your company made a change such that my hardware is no longer adequate. I guess that my only choice is to go back to 7.2.7 which I recalled did work satisfactorily and then look for another vendor's software such as Easy Media Creator which I know is compatible.
I have saved the installation files to 7.2.7 so that won't be a problem, but is aggravating and I can assure you that I will no longer check to use Ahead softwares. I am through with it. I will update my comments on C-net to show that Ahead is unwilling to work we me to solve this problem is a reasonable way. There is no point to look at other capture cards as
the one that I have originally cost $300.

Nero7 (latest = Nero-7.0.1.4b) - chock full of bugs.

Pros: Nero Burning ROM works okay for me, a couple quirks even then.

Cons: bugs; non-functionality of basic tools; extrodinarily poor customer support

Review: I was quite happy with Nero6, and liked the idea of some of the new features advertised for Nero7. Now, to install Nero7, you have to delete Nero6 and then use a clean tool to eliminate vestiges Uninstall won't remove (clumsy right there).

What they also don't tell you is that Nero7 Ultra does not come with all the products that Nero6 Ultra comes with - so you lose those.

I have written several succinct emails to nero tech support, spaced 7-10 days apart, and also filled out their Premium Support on line support form, where they import a lot of data about your system. All polite notes, all matter-of-fact. While every one of these results in an automatic acknowledgement and a case#, not a one of these has been answered, not even an interim 'we're working on it, appreciate your patience' message. Nothing but silence. This is frustrating. The product is clearly in no better than BETA status, so many basic things, including UPDATE, not working. But clearly, NERO is after money, and they were willing to publicly market a major upgrade product not ready for prime time.

If this product were working at least functionally across-the-board, I would give it very high marks. However, since (1) a major part of Nero7 that I rely upon does not work, because (2) I have had to purchase another product in the meantime to do the job, and (3) no apppearance of any effective technical support, I feel nothing short of a low mark can be justified. So I am scoring Nero7 Ultra Edition at a "2", which is being generous in my view.

To offer an excuse for their tech support, perhaps they are completely overwhelmed by queries and complaints, but at least they could send out interim replies. Perhaps the true villian here is Nero's marketing department, who pushed for the premature release. On the other hand, other companies which took quality nosedives like this in this way were in the process of failing, and going bankrupt. I certainly would not recommend buying any stock in Ahead (if it is publicly traded, that is).

So bottom line: Nero6=good, Nero7=bad. Consider other product. Don't touch Nero7 until reviews indicate later releases and patches fix the 1001 problems it has. This is unlikely to be soon.

If they ever do fix these problems, and generate some meaningful customer support to boot, I will re-evaluate this product with higher marks.

All they wanted was a way to get more Money from us!!

Pros: Can't really think of any for purchasing 7.0 version

Cons: slow & confusing download procedure with uncaring customer service

Review: Bought Nero Ultra ^.6 end of Aug. because Of CNET review. Pain to download but finally accomplished. Couple months later, I see that I am supposedly out of date because Nero didn't mention that they were coming out with the new & improved 7.0 Edition. Then I Discover that I could have updated for free,if I would have purchased 6.6 just 5 days later than I did. I would have waited if they would have stated they were ready to come out with a new version. Plus everyone else I have done business with gives FREE UPDATES for at least 6months & usually a year. When I contacted Customer service, they basically told me "tough luck", but I could still upgrade for a "previous customer's discount rate". What a joke, anybody could get this program for $70.00.
It's not the money it's the "We don't give a ---- attitude that will make sure I never give them another Dime.

A buggy embarrassment

Pros: Can't think of any pros over version 6

Cons: If you like to crash and crash often, here's your product!

Review: I want my money back. I spent $50 to upgrade from Nero 6 to...this buggy piece of excrement. I experienced more deadly bugs in this thing than John Goodman did in Arachnophobia.

Beyond that, there are no new interface improvements. For example: Nero Vision has the same clunky, stupidly designed menu system, where most of the screen real estate on the right side is left blank, and every single menu option leads into a submenu. Rather than having a palette of easy-to-use buttons and widgets all in one spot, you're forced to go into Layout/submenu, then Buttons/submenu, etc.

Get a clue, folks. We don't like buggy beta software masquerading as an upgrade. We don't like major version jumps (6 to 7 in this case) that feel like downgrades instead. And we certainly don't like wasting $50 for a really lousy product.

User Rating: 2/10

A very dissapointing offering from Nero

Pros: Looks only

Cons: Grossly overloading any PC

Review: Software has already been updated 3 times in 5 weeks -- due to the numerous complaints by people that have paid for it. It will possibly take another 4 or 5 updates before it does what it is supposed to do --- THE WAY Nero claims it does !

Nero Support cannot keep up with the demand for help !

If you have Nero 6 -- stay with it !

This software is totally not ready for the average user to use.

User Rating: 9/10

Does what it should.

Pros: Clean interface.

Cons: None. I was surprised by so many neg. user ratings.

Review: I hesitated to try this software given the horrible user ratings. The software is outstanding in a field of poor competitors. It is difficult to find video editing/converting/burning software to work well. This does. I also tried Ulead and Gear with no success. Nero is the best. Listen to the CNET editors.

User Rating: 3/10

Not what I expected

Pros: converted digital movie to a playable dvd of family

Cons: simple burning of cd's by windows/sonic/this/worse than before

Review: Program changed all previous burning programs to appear as nero. All Players on system now when inserting a cd/dvd-- nero player unforntunately comes up (it took over most everything). Very hard now to do simple burning of pictures to a cd. Paid good money for something that makes the most common tasks harder to accomplish. I probably will not install nero on my daughters laptop due to this. I probably will keep it on desktop for burning family movies to dvds. As said, I am unhappy with its cd burning and taking over other programs-only keeping it for its family video to dvd ability.

User Rating: 1/10

Bug Riddled, Insane That They Released This

Pros: Cool programs.

Cons: None of them work.

Review: If they got this stuff working it would be great, but you constantly get error dialogs everywhere, missing funcitonality, bad saves and spontaneous shutdowns and on and on and on.

Eventually this software should be good, but as it is now, it's too full of bugs to purchase.

Solid DVD Authoring Solution - No bugs found

Pros: Great DVD burning capabilities

Cons: Movie editor not as good as Premier or VideoStudio

Review: I was looking for a solid DVD authoring package. Nothing fancy, just something to get me from mpeg to a DVD with menus. I downloaded Nero 7, Adobe Premier Elements 2.0, and Ulead VideoStudio 9 a few days ago and evaluated each package. After reading the bad reviews here, I saved Nero for the last. Almost didn't try it at all. That would have been a big mistake.

Nero was the only one of the three packages that provided the solid DVD burning capability I was looking for. Both Premier and VideoStudio had decent editing capabilities but lacked a flexible DVD burning capability.

Nero installation was simple with no system problems encountered to date. Nero 7 is truly a "suite". There are so many additional tools and features for audio and photo work that I haven't had time to fully evaluate all of them.

Definitely a good value.

User Rating: 2/10

Fails to load

Pros: Very polite e-mail support

Cons: Cannot load the program

Review: Paid for version 6.6 which was very good and installed without problems. When I tried to upgrade to 7 Ultra, in the middle of installation, I received an error message: "The file 'atl7190309124.dll' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'D87C6A6D.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package." I e-mailed the company about installation issues. Despite 4 correspondeces over the last month and a half, the problem has not been resolved. I did everything they suggested including cleaning out the registry, uninstalling all Roxio software, uninstalling all previous Nero versions, and running their cleaning tools. None of these interventions worked and I kept receiving the same error message above. I wrote the company asking for the full version given the trouble with the upgrade and will wait for their response. In the meantime, it's back to version 6.6. They always apologize in every e-mail about the inconvenience which is the only reason this product is receiving a 2 (instead of 1).

User Rating: 1/10

A DISGRACE TO THE NERO NAME!

Pros: It has the name Nero...

Cons: This program does not work. It crashes repeatedly, and no one will respond from the company when you ask for help.

Review: I am going to have to contact the Better Business Bureau to get my money back on this bug-ridden suite of useless crashes.

I wasted 12 hours of my life and burnt 4 DVD video coasters in the past three days. I have contacted their tech support 3 times as well as their sales department.

So far no one has replied to me except for an automated response that begins, "Dear Valued Customer."

You're going to realize how valued I am when I warn as many people away from your programs as possible.

It appears to me that they know their program is bugs, but they're not doing anything to solve that problem. They are not fixing bugs, and they are not communicating with their customers.

DO NOT BUY THIS!!! I know Nero used to be a good solid package, but this one is horrid. IT DOES NOT WORK!

Slow, Ineffective Customer Service; some software bugs

Pros: Can Merge, edit, and resave MPG video files; Dual Layer capabilities; multiburner capability

Cons: Major problems with product activation; worthless customer service responses; doesn't recognize drives on a network

Review: I got the Nero 6 download version (10/31) during their "free upgrade to Nero 7 sale". The download version of Nero 7 won't accept the Nero 6 activation key. Customer service acknowledges I should get Nero 7 as free upgrade but sends worthless responses by e-mail. Customer service response is up to a week, not 1-2 days as it should be. There is no online chat customer service nor a US based tech phone number to call. I got Nero 7 on 11/3. Five weeks later it still will not run and Nero customer service offers no solution which will work. Product activation should be a simple thing to do. Nero customer service is terrible.

Works Great, No Problems Yet

Pros: Worked on the first try to burn a DVD. Organizes your media. Nice GUI. Capable of performing all kinds of Burning functions. Burns DVD's to CD's. Supports Blu-Ray. 7.1 channel audio mixing.

Cons: Encoding of my 13gb home movie to a 4.5gb DVD was very slow, not sure why, took about 4 hours.

Review: I really like this software. I have decided to get rid of everything I had before (of course except for DVD-Decrypter and DVD-shrink!)I am looking forward to using its HDTV Capture capability. Compatable with most remotes. In program updates are great.

I am pretty bummed about how much it cost $74 at Micro Center which was the cheapest I could find. Fry's agreed to match the price. If you are not looking to use a majority of the capabilities you can probably find software that will do what you need for half the price. I really like having all the bells and whistles of Nero 7. I will give it an 8 for now. After using it for a while I may change my mind depending on whether I run into a lot of problems or not.

Buyer Beware

Pros: It was free, so I thought, after all the rebates

Cons: Initally it would not run. Now it runs sloooooow!

Review: Installed on a W2K box but it would not run. Un-installed and re-installed with same problem. Un-installed again and my hard drive was corrupt. Installed a new hard drive and recovered files from the old drive. Thinking the drive failure was the problem, I installed Nero 7 on the new drive. Although it now runs, it is very slow. In fact all other apps on the system now run slow. After reading reviews on this site, something I should have done buying this POS, I found others experiencing the same problems. Including hard drive corruptions. Now I?m afraid to un-install in fear of corrupting my new drive.

In the past two weeks I?ve sent two e-mails to Nero tech support. No reply to either.

If I had to charge a customer time and materials to recover a system that was trashed by this product the bill would exceed $500.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Download Version 7.0.1.2 and it will solve most of the complaints.

Pros: Stable, feature rich, cool new look and features.

Cons: Nero Home and Nero Scout really aren't needed and the Smart start window is to small.

Review: Still the best all around Burning Rom, after installing and laughing at how sad Roxio 8.0 was, I was happy Nero 7.0.1.2 was available for download. Weighting in at 102 MiB it took about 10 minutes on Broadband to download.

It had options so you can choose what apps you want to install. I uninstalled Nero 6.6 and upgraded to Nero 7.0.1.2 without a hitch. I installed everything just to get a feel for what the whole suite would be like. I quickly uninstalled Nero Home and Scout, they were really not apps I would use.

One bug that I ran into was a clicking when making cd's from mp3's so I did a search over at cdfreaks.com and found that simply replacing the mp3pro.dll fixed the problem. You need the slightly older version: http://rapidshare.de/files/7528898/mp3PRO.dll.html

c:\program files\common files\ahead\audioplugins

This is the folder you will find it in just zip the newer one and copy the older one in. You will be burning click free cd's just like 6.6.

Anyways the fresh new look and additional features, plus the addtion of newer DVD burners make downloading the 30 day trial worth the 10 minutes.

Don't buy or install; corrupts Microsoft Office

Pros: Good PR and advertising campaign

Cons: Unreliable setup; corrupts Microsoft Office installation

Review: After repeated attempts on a clean machine with only Microsoft Office installed, Nero 7 continues to corrupt the Office installation. I have been trying for 8 days to get support from Nero. Over 1.5 hours on phone queues and no replies to my VIP support email access. Don't buy or install this poor product.

Some Features Very Good... Installation, Very Bad

Pros: Burns slideshow, videos and compiles video clips into movies fairly easily

Cons: Just about everything else it says it can do

Review: During install, I was informed I could not install "InCD" (CD formatting tool) as I had a Roxio product already. After install I could no longer use Word as my e-mail editor nor respond to HTML mail in Outlook.

Trying to use Roxio's Easy CD Creator now starting causing XP system crashes. OK, let's un-install Roxio... now I've got Shellmanager issues in Nero, now I can't fix or un-install Nero either!

I had to restore the computer prior to Nero installation, remove Roxio, then install Nero. That seems to work...so far.

Do not install Nero 7 until you've removed any Roxio products or you'll be very sorry.

Help files have to be downloaded seperately and cannot be incorporated into the program. Very lame. Online support consists of about a dozen "FAQ's", but should number in the hundreds. Half the time, everything was in German.

The media player, scout, home and whatever else is in the bundle don't do anything as well as what you probably are already using. I didn't install any of them. I also did not associate any files with Nero.

With all the bugs, it's truly a Beta Program that may be very good...someday.

Way too expensive

Pros: None yet that I can see

Cons: Way too expensive

Review: Ahead decided to DOUBLE the price of Nero to $100, downloadable is $80 and upgrading is... get this... $52!! That's way too much for the software and the upgrade price is insulting to customers, reflecting a 35% discount over previous download versions -- and that tells you the story about what to expect. Others have reported significant bugs and, at this high price, I can save money on the "upgrade" and buy a complete license for Roxio and bedone with it. Sorry guys, what a waste of my prior investment.

Video editing and rendering is the best there is--forget about Adobe, Ulead, Cyberlink

Pros: Nero Vision is more solid than it was in v6, faster than Quicktime Pro at rendering Quicktime video

Cons: Would like to have seen more new features in Nero Vision 4

Review: I mostly only care about making videos and burning DVD's or sharing the videos with family or with various consultants I work with. So this is really a review of Nero Vision 4 (which replaces Nero Vision Express 3.) Based on that, Nero 7 is the tool to get. I use it HEAVILY (hours of video per week).

The source video formats I deal with are mpeg2 (DVD), mpeg4 in AVI files (from a digicam), and DV. Version 6 had some issues with certain types of mpeg4 and the sound would sometimes get out of sync with the video, but that's all cleaned up in v7.

It will render Quicktime compatible mp4 files MUCH quicker than Apple's own Quicktime Pro 7--in fact it renders it faster than real time on my Athlon 3500. This is pretty much the only format that is both high quality and EVERYBODY can play--Mac and PC.

It also has the best-behaved smart encoding feature I've seen for burning DVD's--saves a lot of time especially if I'm making a DVD from mixed source formats.

Nero smart start is snappier now that it used to be--I actually like to use it now.

I didn't give it a 10 because I was hoping for more flexibility in the design of DVD menus and the ability to filter the DVD sound (ie,. wave editor-like capabilities), neither of which occured. I also wish they would make the various programs more similar in appearance.

I didn't mark off for it, but they also do have some cleaning up to do--I didn't find any behavioral bugs, but there are situations where buttons are partially obscured and other such rough edges.

FYI, this review is for the version 7.0.1.2 update.

Adobe, Ulead, and Cyberlink all have pretty-looking user interfaces, but they are less intuitive and less functional and, of course, the performance is a joke compared to Nero. If you are busy and have a lot of video work to do, Nero is the only choice.

The worst upgrade I've ever seen

Pros: There are none

Cons: Every component

Review: Bloatware that crashes and burns. Installer does not completely remove v6 causing multiple incompatibilities. Even after utilizing Nero's General Clean tool, I could only get Express to work. All other app's crashed upon launch. Nero's support has been non-existant.

7 is not ready for prime time.

Pros: Updated interface

Cons: Too many bugs in this product. Overwrites your previous version.

Review: Can't recommend move to 7 until they fix the bugs that nearly everyone is experiencing. I'm re-installing 6.

Fabulous burning suite

Pros: Burn data to media quick and easy

Cons: Still won't allow you to create ISOs

Review: All these other users who've said "It doesn't work" apparently don't know how to use it. It's a fabulous, fully-functional CD/DVD suite that'll do almost anything you can think of from or to removable disk media. A must buy.

Nero 7 works great!!

Pros: Audio & Visual programs are the best yet !

Cons: big download--kinda slow

Review: When I first started using Nero 5.5 way back when, I wasn't impressed at all. But I kept having to use it because it always did what I needed when other programs wouldn't. Eventually I got to the point where Nero was my first choice all the time.
Then I upgraded to 6.0 and that was all she wrote. When 7.0 came out, there wasn't any doubt if I would buy it, it was automatic.
I see alot of negative reviews and that's to bad, because in my opinion Nero 7.0 is dollar-for-dollar THE BEST program out there. Of course that's just my opinion.
I will say this also, if you take the time to learn the ins and outs of Nero, you won't be disappointed.

Fancy, with lots of features, but it simply doesn't burn well.

Pros: Lots of features

Cons: The burning itself is less then perfect.

Review: Many features and all that and it never crashed or anything, so its quite stable but when I burned my first music cd using it there were 2 problems: First, the sound started cracking at certain points, and during parts where the music got louder it's like it couldn't handle it and started sounding "washy". I burned the same cd with Roxio and it came out wonderful and flawless.

Really, I think all these features are their to bring the price up, and who knows, if Nero can't burn music, the most basic of all things, those advenced features which i've never used are probably worse. Try Roxio its more stable and competent (and looks nicer)

Erratic and touchy

Pros: When it works it works

Cons: Not very intuitive in some areas

Review: The Create A Multisession Data CD function crashes frequently and a message "There is a problem and the program must be shut down" Sorry for ..... Nero must be re-installed to make it work again. VERY bad for an expensive program.

this product breaks several windows components

Pros: no benefits over version 6

Cons: breaks your windows components, causing havoc to other programs

Review: downloaded the demo version from ahead site to try, since the previous versions gave good experience. the first thing it destroyed was the ability to open the Nokia phone explorer. uninstalling via the nero uninstaller doesn't fix the problem, neither did using the nero general-cleantool. only a system restore did the trick. then i googled for the problem and came across this forum page.

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=154623

nero 7 is buggy! I wonder if nero 7 is trying to take over all media functions on the PC, to break the windows components functionality like this.

Great Product

Pros: Loads fast and works like a charm

Cons: Update Immediately and might require two installations.

Review: Patience is a virtue. Everyone should know that a new product should not be bought as soon as it is released because all of the bugs would not have been fixed. I have installed and been using Nero 7 for eight days.
The program was problematic to install from the trial version to the purchased problem. I managed to fix the problem and I can email anyone help if needed. I had to install Nero twice to install InCD, but after the update Nero is working like a charm. I have not had any issues since installation and immediate update. The backup program is a dream.

Nero is a solid program with regular updates

Pros: Regular Updates; Wide Range of Functions; Easy to Use

Cons: Some programs are a little sluggish.

Review: Nero 7 is a very solid program. Other reviewers have been complaining about bugs because they were using the first release. Any program that is newly released will have bugs, that's just the way it works. Fortunately, Nero is already providing free updates on their website (the first of which is 100MB). I installed this update and it improved the performance of Nero 7 drastically. I suggest the other users give Nero more of a chance before making quick judgements. Nero 7 does everything I need it to do and more. It's easy to use and definitely my favorite multimedia program.

Breaks Outlook

Pros: Lots of Features. Was Great for a day

Cons: Broke Outlook. Big Brothersoft. Takes over your PC

Review: It worked great for a day then decided my serial number was invalid. It deactivated itself and in the process I can no longer use Word as my email editor in Outlook. I dont understand why a burning program should touch your Outlook or why it insists on being the default for everything. this swiss army knife app stabs you with the big clunky spoon. Nero, you have gone the way of Norton

I like it Nero leads the way

Pros: Fast and easy to use

Cons: Unfornately I had to paid for it!

Review: I have used Nero since like Nero 4. Nero 7 is simply the best. I tried Roxio and found that it did not suit my needs. Nero 7's interface is easy to use and burns everything I need to from ISO,data disks to DVD's and picture CD's. This is the one you need for all your CD and DVD burning needs.

A mixed bag

Pros: lots of new features

Cons: menus need rethinking

Review: I've been looking at roxio as an alternative especially since users have not liked this new version. Altough Nero has put some great new features, I decided to buy Roxio creator 8. It has been running great and the DVD authoring has been straight forward. Some of the features are different between the 2 software versions, so everyone has to decide which features are more important. It helped me to research the 2 products before buying.

Nothing but bugs

Pros: Out of frustration you might get outside a bit more

Cons: Full of bugs, nothing but problems

Review: Nero 7 is filled with bugs and has nothing but problems with it.

The INCD program is not working and has caused my system to lock up.

The Product Setup and Update always causes a crash that then prompts windows to report an error to microsoft.

Nero StartSmart starts up and sometimes none of the applications or tools are listed, in fact when this occurs the only thing that is there is the manual, but low and behold, that just takes you to an online link provides pdf only manuals. Also when this occurs there the configure button is missing from nero start smart.

Even though my serial number is listed in nero if I click the logo in smart start, if I start Nero Burning Rom by itself it doesn't show my name or serial registration in the splash screen.

The program also is much less responsive than 6.6 and I am running on a fairly descent computer. It seems almost every application I open has a chance of errors occuring, while 6.6 was very stable.

This may someday prove to be a great product, the catch is, they shouldn't have released it until they had done some testing. Seriously, how hard is it to pay a guy to sit at a computer and test this product for a couple of days. (ok, so give him two different computer configurations to test it on, seriously). Some people have claimed that this isn't even a beta, it is alpha. I would say it isn't even an alpha product yet. It has major flaws and is unstable and slow.

Save yourself a lot of time and frustration and don't buy or upgrade this until a few more patches come out.

Also, on a side note, ahead should have been honest and mentioned that things like manuals and incd were missing or not working.

Awful,terrible,bug ridden piece of....

Pros: None...zero

Cons: Slow install, bugs galore...

Review: This is by far the worst product I have used maybe ever. My cd/dvd drives disappeared when I uninstalled this piece. I took it off of my computer because it would not recognize a blank cd-r...useless.
My computer was absolutely fine before this nightmare. Stay Away!!!!!Far Away!!!!There is absolutely ZERO support for this product. I just don't understand the raving reviews...I think is raving madness!

The good and the bad

Pros: Lots of options

Cons: Sometimes difficult to understand the menus

Review: I'm surprised at the negative user experiences. For an alternative you might want to look into Roxio Easy media Creator 8. It has just been released. I looked at the PCWorld review which gives a side by side look at Nero's an Roxio's software. Both have their good & bad points. I saw some features though that I needed in the Roxio upgrade.

A bad downfall

Pros: Nice features

Cons: Doesn't write Audio CD's correctly

Review: While I expected much more than this from Nero, this new version can hardly be suggested to any professional user. Before this I used Nero 6.6.0.13 which was great. Nero 7 features are all just the same as Nero 6.6 with a few new features to offer. I burned one Audio CD and then I checked and saw it skips in various parts of the tracks. It messed up my CD. However on writing DVD I experienced no problem. I then uninstalled it and kept using the Nero 6.6.0.13 again. Ahead should note that this product is a big downfall and very disappointing.

What a Dissappointment! I have sent an email requesting my money back.

Pros: Has a few new features if you can get them to work!

Cons: Will not configure ATI AIW card to capture. Scout is a hassle. Nero Home is so slow I may get on medicare before it works. And what is with the request to load Yahoo toolbar.

Review: The program is just about unuseable. Since installing the program I have had numerous program shut downs. Nero took a perfectly good version (6.6)and made it unuseable. I am really sorry that I purchased it before I used the trial verson. By the way my purchased version still is listed as Nero 7 Trial. I will have to restore an image of my old system and never install Nero 7 until all of the bugs are repaired. It is a shame that Ahead released software the even an A+ technician can't use.

"Downgraded" and disappointed

Pros: Lots of "advertised" features, some good new ones

Cons: Won't completely install and causes hang-ups

Review: My prior ver. 6 Ultra (a download version) worked great, so I thought 7 (retail box) would be super. First uninstalled ver. 6. Install seemed to go OK, but as soon as I tried to execute Nero SmartStart or the Ultra version, errors came up and the program would hang. I could only access Nero Express, but still got problems. Uninstalled 7, to try reinstall. During uninstall, all windows came up with German language captions. Never could get it to work. Nero tech answer e-mail inquiry with statement that they were working on a fix to come out late "next month" that should fix this. This seems like the reason I departed from Roxio several years ago.

Unstable, disappointing

Pros: Installation options is the only improvement

Cons: Nero Burning ROM crashes each and every time

Review: While I enjoyed a relatively stable Nero 6.6, I made a very
bad decision to waste about $100 on version 7.0, a very
unusable product.

I simply trusted Nero, assuming that version 7 will be a better
product, enhancing already useful tools and features. Nero
proved me wrong: they did not deserve my trust.

A number of very common functions do not work. Period. Example:
Nero burning ROM (for making audio CDs or duplicating CDs) which
is perhaps at the heart of Nero. It has crashed each and every
time I launched it (or selected it from the StartSmart menu).
I get the following error message: "nero.exe has encountered
a problem and needs to close..."

The same goes with Nero Vision (for making a movie and burning
it to a DVD): I started with a few very small clips, together
less than one GB, went thru all steps, clicked on "burn",
came back the following morning, noticing that it is still
sitting there but it was actually hanging there dead.

Nero 7 also has poor performance and takes over computer
resources, causing many bursts of short freezes. I have a
relatively powerful desktop: 2.8 GHz, 1.5 RAM, and plenty of
HD space.

Installation is the only improvement over the earlier versions.
It allows you to choose what applications/tools to install.

Very Poor Product

Pros: Mosly same as 6 in usage

Cons: Bugy, Slow, Same as 6

Review: How come official review gives it 8/10.
All the above user reviews are spot on.
The product is bugy and slow.
Instead of making the existing features of 6 work better and in a more user friendly way, they've added extra features and the whole is still a disgrace.

Marketed before it was ready

Pros: Expanded program

Cons: Problems galore

Review: After being very satisfied with earlier versions, from 4 to 5 to 6, I was too ready to upgrade. What a disappointment. Never did find InCD 5 which is said to be part of the overall program. Uninstalled it and returned to 6.6. I will try again in a few months when the site is not so busy.

This is a worthless POS

Pros: None that I can find

Cons: Slow, no docs, no support

Review: I got this "program" for the 5.1 capability not realizing the were no instructions on how to use it. I tried video capture and playback. Capture was ok but playback was choppy showing about one frame every second. The same file played back smoothly on Magix Movie Edit Pro 10. The Nero website support form doesn't even have Nero 7 ultra listed. I tried anyway. Nero responded to my first email by telling me to down load a 100 megabyte help file! The next response they wanted to know what capture card I was using. I've not heard back. I only wish I could rate this a "0." Since I can't get my money back maybe I'll just stand in the aisle at Best Buy and stop anybody from bying anything Nero.

ATTENTION PEAOPLE!! NOT GOOD FOR THE PRICE THEY ARE SALING

Pros: THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT NERO IS ONLY GOOD TO BURN PERSONAL VIDEO (NOT MOVIE VIDEO) AND CD

Cons: NOT SO GOOD

Review: ATTENTION PEOPLE THESE THE BAD THING ABOUT NERO

CAN NOT MAKE COPY OF DVD MOVIE, SO WHY BUYING NERO FOR $65-99 WHEN YOUR COMPUTER HAVE A DVD-BURNER AND YOU CAN'T USE IT TO MAKE COPY OF DVD MOVIE. I THINK THERE ARE SOFTWARE OUT THERE FOR FREE THAT YOU CAN USE IT TO MAKE COPY OF DVD MOVIE AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY, IF YOU DON'T TRUST ME TRY IT AND WILL SEE

"1" only because Zero is not available

Pros: havent found any yet

Cons: the whole product is a Con job

Review: Bought the CD version at buy.com. Should have read all the reviews here first. Bought it based on solid performance from Nero 5, but 5 won't work with new dvd burner, so upgraded based on past performance. Nero web site keeps promising update patches, first it was October 20-something, then Nov 2, now I see today (Nov 2) the date has been removed and no patches are available. I am returning to buy.com in a week if no resolution and using a pirated copy of nero 6. Are you listening? That's how software piracy occurs when you put out a krappy product. This stuff is worse than windows me. If they post a patch and it works I'll repost. I think there is a book called "All marketers are liars"

Nero 7 a Disgrace!

Pros: Vision Express converts mp4 to dvd better

Cons: Everything else sucks

Review: A few days ago I burned a 3.4 Gb dvd movie in 8 minutes using Nero 6. Today, using Nero 7, I am burning the same movie at supposedly 8x.
1hr 13 minutes have already passed and it has only reached 64% verification. The screen keeps freezing until Freemem Pro kicks in and all other applications take ages to start. What criminals these people are selling this cr.. rubbish.

DO NOT BUY THIS PATHETIC PROGRAM

Pros: There are none!

Cons: Nothing works!!!

Review: I have been trying to use this program and it is pathetic. I totally agree with all the other reviews on here who say it is no good. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Hardly any of the programs worked properly when using Nero Smart Start. Every time I tried to make a project wheather it was burning DVD video files or trying to make a DVD or CD data disk, this pathetic suite of programs crashed constantly, even when I ran the repair option to try to fix it. It just does not work. The only way I could get it to half work properly was to run it in Nero Express mode which has half of the options missing so I only got half of the software. When software companies like this actually have the cheek to release bug ridden programs like Nero 7 just so they can be 'ahead' (no pun intended) of the competition, it's no wonder people are turning to P2P sites and newsgroups so they can download illegal copies because this program is a total rip-off!!!

The Best Just Keeps On Getting Better

Pros: Great New Add-Ons

Cons: Installment process is a bit slower then the last version.

Review: Nero 7 is the best Burning software yet!

Nero is looking ahead to the future by adding HD-DVD to it's burning format.

Nero added Nero Home to version 7 which is a pretty cool feature.

I haven't ran in to any install problems or program glitches with the updated version 7.0.1.2. This Updated version pretty much fixed all the bugs that the first version 7.0.0.0 had on it.

Give Nero 7 a test drive and you might find that it is the best buring software yet!

Issues Now, Updates Pending

Pros: VST support in wave editor, 5.1 audio encoding, amazing backup tools

Cons: Ahead has taken a few chapters from Microsoft's programming book: Release now, patch later

Review: When Nero 6 came out, it was pretty solid. I still have a copy of 6.00.23 lying around somewhere (even though my purchased copy is 6.3). It was pretty solid, even at it's early stages. It's rare that I'll buy a copy of a piece of software within a week of its release, but for Nero, I'll make an exception. so I bought a copy, installed it, and was impressed with features, but like most people who've written reviews about Nero 7, are underwhelmed with it's stability. I gave Nero 7 a 5 because Ahead has been much better than roxio at releasing updates, and with much more speed for Nero than EZ Media Creator gets. Also, Nero has been really good at adding features to their current version of nero w/o making a new release every single time they add a feature. While I'm having issues now, I'm sure that by the end of november most of the major ones will be ironed out, and the minor ones will continue to be stamped out as time progresses. If you grab this now, I HIGHLY recommend going to Ahead's website to grab the latest patch to fix some of the gaping holes in an otherwise fabulous product.

To upgraders, the major stuff they added is nero scout (for media management), Nero Home (to directly compete with Media Center), and a completely redone backup took that will make you want to think twice about whipping out your copy of Ghost. 'couple minor enhancements in the audio dept., but not much else has changed. if you've got nero 6, wait a bit for the suite to mature before running out to grab it.

Bug Beware

Pros: None to mention, it crashes everytime I use it!!

Cons: The program has major issues when trying to use the Buring-ROM

Review: I think that the product would be quite good if Nero's programing didn't crash all the time. Support is currently working on the issue, but it seems that they released the software to stores before it had been perfected knowing it had bugs and would release the bug free version online, after unsuspecting customers complained and unknowingly did their research for them by having to send data to them to indicate where the problems were occuring. The product is very frustrating at the time being. I hope that the release of the online version on 11/02/05 will bring a patch or correction to the software I have purchased, if not I will look to Roxio's software even though I have never used it. If you really want this product wait till it is available online then get it!!

Pros: Capable of so much more than ever before!

Cons: Has some bugs that need resolving

Review: Streamlined for todays PC Artist. Faster. Easier to Navigate. FREE TECH SUPPORT. Customizable. FREE UPDATES.

Roxio delivers ONE update after a release. Nothing more. Tech support is horrid, IF you can get ahold of them. I use my old roxio version to level out my computer desk!

Did I mention it was Fast? Easy to use? Free Tech Support, and Free Updates?

Pros: General resemblance to the already easy to use Nero 6.6 Ultra Edition. Fast, user friendly and appealing to work with.

Cons: None so far!

Review: Having used Pinnacle and Roxio for quite sometime before switching to Nero, it is safe to say that finally a company got it right! Nero 7 is fast and easy to use. It is the most user-friendly, task-friendly version to date. This software allows me to do litterally ANYTHING that i want to do, faster and easier than the competition. With free support and free updates as well this software packs a big bonus that the competition just cant live up to!

Nero 7 Ultra

Pros: I sure

Cons: No free upgrade if you bought Nero 6 in August

Review: Well those that have tried Nero 7 seem to think it is filled with problems. Well just remember that the offical release didn't hit stores until late October. There is always problems with the beta version.

Well I am not completely happy with Nero (Ahead) as a company because I bought Nero 6 mid August 2005 and they will not allow me the to upgrade for free to Nero 7 because it was not purchased between Sept 1 to Novvember 30. Well I missed it by 2 weeks.

To be fair to Nero they did delay the downloadable serial number version until the first week in November. Maybe they have heard your reviews of the product and are correcting it.

Well lets hope they have fixed all the little bugs.

I will reveiw again once I had the chance to use the offical version.

This product doesn't work

Pros: none that i know of

Cons: not tested, full of bugs, lousy support, no cust service

Review: After using Roxio for years I bought this. The product quite simply does not work, won't rcognise my dvd recorder, although all the other products I have do so with no problems. Also I get popups in german, blank pop ups and many many other bugs. I guess the saved on testing. Support was very slow and completely useless, they send me a script to run that had bugs in it, then gave up. Customer service couldn't be bothered to reply to my emails. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

A huge step backwards

Pros: It doesn't make your computer catch on fire

Cons: Everything else!

Review: The last time I bought a DVD burner, I ditched the included "Nero Basic" (Nero Express) for a full OEM copy. I've updated a few times and everything was GREAT for me in 6.6.0.16. I've burned at least 200 DVDs without a single issue. And then, I did the stupid thing... I messed with something that worked.

I downloaded the demo of 7.0 and had all kinds of issues. First of all, any time you open Express (which I use for making audio CDs), the next time you open "full Nero" you get an error that causes Nero to quit before loading. Not only that, I suddenly started getting "Power Calibration Errors" when using some Ritek discs that worked like a charm under 6.6.0.16. I have a brand new spindle of TY DVD-R discs that failed verification under 7. And on top of all that, the Nero 7 installer (while *finally* offering to allow you to select which bits to install or not install), *still* spews junk all over the place... which made Nero 7 take twice as long as 6.x to start up. Still, I liked the new UI - much more XP-like than before - but it's just not worth the hassle for something that looks pretty but doesn't work.

One thing that really bugs me about the whole "Nero Suite" thing is how DIFFERENT each app is. Bash Microsoft Office all you want, but for the most part if you know Word you can figure out the important bits of Excel or PowerPoint within a few minutes, even if you've never really used them before. Using the Nero Suite is like using WordPerfect for word processing, Excel for spreadsheets and Lotus Notes for email, instead of one integrated office suite. Sure, Nero provides that stupid launcher, but who uses that?

Anyway, after doing an uninstall of 7, I'm back to 6.6.0.16 and everything is fine again.

Nero 7 ahead of its peers

Pros: Builds on industry standard burning engine

Cons: There is a Burning ROM bug

Review: I have used Nero 5.5 and Nero 6 and Nero 7 improves on Nero 6.6. There are new easy to use GUI's that make Nero Express and Nero Vision very easy to use. The new templates are very cool (3d and animated), I can make my own beats to mix into my music with Nero Soundtrax, and 5.1 and 7.1 HQ audio is very cool. Can't wait to get my content in Nero Digital so I can play it on my XBMC.

Next on the list, I'd like to see automated TV recording (so I can record lost to DVD and have it ready to go when i get up for work in the morning), and HDTV and HDV support, and blu-ray and HD-DVD support.

Another cool feature they've added that I was looking for is the ability to export a slideshow in Nero Vision. Finally, I can export a slideshow from Nero vision and put it whatever format I want. Whether it be DVD's, mpg files, avi files, nero digital, or a VCD/SVCD. Very cool, keep up the good work.

Nero 7 rocks

Pros: Better Video/Photo Features

Cons: Got a few bugs that need resolving

Review: Nero 7 rocks, I notice a few bugs but over all I think this will be a great product after a few updates. I really like the new animated 3D menus in Nero Vision 4. The new menus will save me time and make my DVDs look cooler to share with my family and friends. Thanks Nero for this great product.

A cool look to an old friend

Pros: No more 30MB downloads for updates, YEAH!

Cons: Still in its infancy and needs to grow some

Review: I've read the opinions of others here, but I had no trouble at all installing Nero 7 Ultra Edition on my Windows XP SP2 system. It detected my Nero 6, and removed it automatically, and then it intalled itself. No problems. I like the Nero Home look, but I can see they have only begun to implement this 10ft interface. I hear from Nero that they plan on tying this in with their Burning Engine, and then it will be useful to me. Till then, it looks good, but not very useful other than for playback purposes. But its good at what it can do as of today.

Nero Burning ROM and Nero Express are pretty much the same. But they are solid. I've been able to burn 20 discs without errors. (Of course, Nero Burning ROM will not work once you launch Nero Express, but Nero is aware of this bug and promised me that they have this resolved already and will provide a fix on Oct. 26th)

Nero BackItUp is AWESOME! I can now backup to my FTP account, this is a very powerful feature. And the have improved it in so many other ways. They really should sell BackItUP by itself in Retail. It does more than other programs can such as Ghost.

And I'm having a blast creating 5.1 Surround sound Audio tracks, and that new Beat Editor program is COOL. I belive they call it the 'SoundBox' program. I feel like a kid again. :)

And Nero Vision 4 is running smoother on my computers thatn Nero Vision 3 ever did. IT seems to be a little faster on my systems. I've able to work with all my Xvid and Divx files without any problems. Of course most of my files are Xvid as I find Divx files are always troublesome.

Overall, I would have to say I am very happy. I hope they add even more features as they did when they came out with Nero 6.6

Tell me why I bought this

Pros: I have no pros at this time since the software will not install (see cons for details).

Cons: When installing, as soon as it uninstalls previous versions, it just makes everything fall apart. It won't load, and it messed up my internet explorer and wrecked several other programs on my system.

Review: Waste of time and money. I had to do a system restore to get my system working properly after attempting to install - note ATTEMPTING. It never installed and gave me lots of things to repair before my system was back up and running.
Updated
It has been removed, and my system restored, again. A system restore has been necessary after each attempt to load this software on my system. Three restores in one night - DEFINITELY BEWARE!
Updated
Yep - took it back, got my money back, reloaded the old 6.5 and am now happy.

HUGE Disappointment

Pros: Can't find any yet

Cons: Bugs everywhere you look, slow as dirt

Review: After using 6.5 for quite awhile and finding it very stable and functional, I decided to plop down my $100 for the latest 7.0. What an incredible disappointment. I don't think I've ever purchased a software product with so many bugs. Nearly every applet that I tried crashed after just a few keystrokes. The Nero Home feature is so incredibly slow. I waited several seconds for some sort of visual feedback after clicking on an item. It also wouldn't recognize my ATI AIW tuner. It did manage to import about 30 MP3 files in the span of about 10 minutes! I happen to have about 15000 files on my PC! There's no help whatsoever online or in the "help" manuals. There's no updates yet. How can CNet give this product such a high rating is beyond me.
Updated
After uninstalling this product, my computer blue-screened repeatedly on rebooting. At one point my RAID controller reported a "corrupt" drive! Only after rebuilding my RAID and rebooting into safe mode was I able to perform a system restore and eliminate the problem that the Nero software created. BEWARE!

Nero7 - Bug Riddled and Slow

Pros: Fancy Box, Lots of promises

Cons: Extremely Unusable at Purchase Time (retail)

Review: This is not a product... This is a marketing gimmick to get boxes on shelves ahead of the competition.

In my haste to finish a project, I decided to try Nero7. The new version of Wave Editor crashes frequently. (Transcoding a wav to wma, Attempting hum/click/noise filters on a file, and while saving.)

There are no help files or manuals! The tutorials did not teach me what I wanted to know, and the help files all point to a non-existant web link. I presume that web link will be available about Oct 26, but right now this is a 95% useless product.

The only success I've had was with Nero Vision which was able to successfully create a DVD for me. On the down side, I was completely unable to save the project! (The File->Save menu would not bring up a dialog box, neither would the prominant "Save" button at the bottom of every page. When exiting I was prompted to save, and yet nothing happened when I clicked Yes.) Using the Export to Hard Drive function, I was able to get a DVD format directory on my drive for later. Oddly, it took 15 minutes to write the project to the HD, while it had only taken 3 minutes to burn a DVD from the same menu.

The Burn to Multiple Drives feature is nifty, but I suspect it is causing extra burn failures, even at low speed. This has not been confirmed.

The Support website with it's "VIP Support" forum is apparently useless too. I submitted a nice report to explain a very repeatable problem and have not heard back from them. Even the non-VIP Support Forum has an email auto-reply saying "Thank You" and such.

Tragic! Definitely Tragic!
