"Nero7 - Bug Riddled and Slow" on by TJSmith3
Pros: Fancy Box, Lots of promises
Cons: Extremely Unusable at Purchase Time (retail)
Summary: This is not a product... This is a marketing gimmick to get boxes on shelves ahead of the competition.
In my haste to finish a project, I decided to try Nero7. The new version of Wave Editor crashes frequently. (Transcoding a wav to wma, Attempting hum/click/noise filters on a file, and while saving.)
There are no help files or manuals! The tutorials did not teach me what I wanted to know, and the help files all point to a non-existant web link. I presume that web link will be available about Oct 26, but right now this is a 95% useless product.
The only success I've had was with Nero Vision which was able to successfully create a DVD for me. On the down side, I was completely unable to save the project! (The File->Save menu would not bring up a dialog box, neither would the prominant "Save" button at the bottom of every page. When exiting I was prompted to save, and yet nothing happened when I clicked Yes.) Using the Export to Hard Drive function, I was able to get a DVD format directory on my drive for later. Oddly, it took 15 minutes to write the project to the HD, while it had only taken 3 minutes to burn a DVD from the same menu.
The Burn to Multiple Drives feature is nifty, but I suspect it is causing extra burn failures, even at low speed. This has not been confirmed.
The Support website with it's "VIP Support" forum is apparently useless too. I submitted a nice report to explain a very repeatable problem and have not heard back from them. Even the non-VIP Support Forum has an email auto-reply saying "Thank You" and such.
Tragic! Definitely Tragic!

I understand a lot of software will have issues with Windows Vista.. but the newest version of Nero 7.7.5.1 which is supposably designed for Vista taking advantage of the GUI and adding a gadget... works like crap. Me and a friend installed it, he has Vista Home Pro and I have Vista Ultimate. We both had installation problems, but got by that. He now has GUI problems running the program and I have problems with all of it. Transcoding takes 2-3 times as long. It took me over 4 hours to transcode a video that took me 1.5 hours to transcode before. IMO this version is NOT Vista compatiable, I dont even think it should be on the market!

What would be funny if it were not pathetic is Nero put long-squashed bugs back into Nero 6 Ultra edition right before they released Nero 7. Was this an attempt to force upgrade s to Nero 7?

For instance, the long-gone word wrap bug is now back in Nero 6, and since Nero Cover Designer is not a "what you see is what you get" program, its a complete PAIN to design CD and album layouts without the word wrap feature. Tech support refuses to help me download an older working version of Nero 6, leaving me with the choice of living with the reinserted bug or upgrading to Nero 7. I am amazed they would resort to such tactics, and I have begged and pleaded with tech support to help me downgrade to a working version of 6, all to no avail. Were Nero based in the USA I would be contacting the attorney general in my home state of Oregon and their home state, but since they are a German company I am afraid my avenues of recourse are limited to foaming at the mouth and warning people to stay away.

Whats the point of paying for software if there is zero tech support?
