"Print Server not for All-In-One, Loud, Hot" on by mcasemo

    Pros: Works as network drive

Cons: No Print server functionality for all-in-ones (scanners), very loud, very hot

Summary: This drive does not work as advertised. It does not work with Dell All In One printers. Not only does it not control the scanner, it will not actually print to it. Customer service confirmed this, and said that somewhere on their website, it states this.

The unit makes a grinding noise when starting up, and runs louder than my desktop on a hot day.

    Not recommended.

"The worst peripheral purchase I have ever made." on by Stooglepedia

Pros: Unfortunately, there are no plus points to the product.

Cons: Vacuum-loud, ZERO support, Packaged software does NOT work on this product. Filetypes unsupported. Constantly drops connection. Appalling printer support. Slow transfer speeds.

Summary: The cons above speak for themselves. I was bitterly disappointed in my purchase.

It is unusably loud, forcing me to shelve it for months. The bundled software does NOT support this drive. All requests made through my Iomega account have been ignored. Every user-forum I have managed to find express the same concerns.

To date, it has just been a very expensive way of buying a 500GB hdd which I have subsequently removed and now use in an off-the-shelf NAS enclosure.

Honestly, I cannot warn potential buyers enough to steer clear.

"Noisy, doesn't support my printer, difficult to set up." on by BosoxMan

    Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Noisy, horrible software, may not support your printer.

Summary: This drive has a very loud fan - it makes more noise than any computer I've ever had. My hardware is all in my apartment, so I have to keep it turned off when not using it... and the "on" pushbutton is only an "on" button! I have to pull the plug on the drive to shut it down. Defective hardware, or a defective designer, and not good either way.
The included instructions are meager, and the on-screen manual is a bad joke. The installation software itself is cryptic, assumes you know what it's talking about, and explains nothing in plain English. I'm sure a professional IT geek can do this quickly, but it took me several hours to get set up, and without a lot of Googling for how-to information I'd still be at it. I'm fairly tech-savvy, and for the average civilian I think set-up would be just about impossible.
Worst of all, the reason I picked this product was the print server function - and now I find it doesn't support my HP printer/scanner! That was not mentioned anywhere, in any review that I read, and I spent a lot of time comparing products before selecting this one.
Did I mention that the StorCenter Pro Discovery Tool crashes repeatedly when launched on my iMac? Seems it's not quite compatible with OS-X Leopard. If you re-launch 4 or 5 times, it finally gets a grip.

All in all, a disastrous performance by Iomega, who usually put out excellent stuff. This one is a dud, and it's going back to the vendor.

"Has no fan, fails easily, NO support from the company" on by hoshonti

Pros: It works to save files, the way an external hard drive should. It is easy to use in that regard. It works with Mac.

Cons: The hard drive failed within 3 mohths. The "guarantee policy" turned out to be that a new unit would be sent us ONLY if we sent them our failed one WITHOUT salvaging data. They would not salvage data. No fan causes chronic overheating. BAD DESIGN.

Summary: Supposed guarantee is bogus. Design is faulty and fails consistently; look for online complaints and "trouble-shooting" to find them. You won't find them on external review sites, some comments on which seem in retrospect to have been planted by iOmega employees. The company did not care when we called to talk to them. They give NO options and there is NO way out except to salvage what you can at your own cost AND thereby violate their "guarantee" -- meaning you are out an external hard drive. I will NEVER buy iomega again! BE WARNED!
