"I have the DS big Brother the DS-207+" on by kayakski

Pros: Easy to set up and network even for a novice

Cons: Wished for a little more information about setting up different features of the DS

Summary: I purchased the DS-207+ which is the same except it has room for two drives and so can be set up as a Raid system. I found the user interface to be as easy as the article implies. To start up or shut down you simply push a button so everyone in the family can handle it. The list of supported printers did not include mine (HP Photosmart D7360) however HP suggested I use the driver for 990 and it worked flawlessly. Not only is the non networkable printer available to all of the computers on our network, but the memory card slots on the printer are networked as well. Though occasionally I wished for a little more information on some of the features I would overall recommend it highly. There are cheaper units, but you do get what you pay for.

"A wealth of features that you may never use, but several you will come to love" on by legendontour

Pros: Simple setup, great user forum, good firmware support, FTP accessable, photo station hosting

Cons: Price, no included hard drive, no data backup

Summary: I purchased this drive after reading the CNET editors review. I was after a UnPP media storage device to be compatible with my PS3 and also to act as a backup drive for my PC and my wifes notebook.
Given prices were steep here in Australia I purchased on Ebay, with a 750GB drive for $409.
Initial setup and drive mapping was easy. However, enabling use with my PS3 required downloading the latest firmware, as it shipped with 1 year old firmware.
Transferring data and setup of photo albums and media streaming were straightforward. However, setting up ftp access to the drive (and especially setting up the photo album with a DNS address) required a long frustrating day, with a lot of time spent browsing the user forums and learning about port forwarding and DNS hosting. However, now setup it is straightforward to use and my family overseas are ecstatic about the ability to see all the photos and movie clips of our 1 week old baby as soon as I download them to my drive.

Overall I would recommend this device to anyone who has a working knowledge of network configuration, or is happy to follow setup guides.
